I will try to read through all comments since I replied here the last time.
The current update is that we will try add a new experimental branch next week with the following things.
improved stall reporting, so we can track down stalls better, before it was hard to track the stalls in the audio system
proper checks for bypassio support, this could been an issue, but likely not. We are also adding more volume info so we can see filesystem, bustype and how many disks your volume spans.
non-stalling open and close in audio system. If open and close is stalling now the audio system can stall, which was very clear when we forced a Sleep in open audio file, this could be the culprit for many of you.
I will keep you updated when we this is live on the experimental branch.
Honestly I searched all over the internet but I cant find how to check for my raid type I have a slight suspcion it might be 5 and no I’m not gonna open my pc to find out, do you have any idea how to figure that out?
Does this still work when pasting at the VERY TOP of the config.
When I launch the game, the config gets wiped away and reverts it back to default. Do I need to actually put these values in the Direct storage area below?
Futhermore, does this allow us to fiddle with other Direct Storage settings?
I want to try disabling GPU decompression per the documentation from MicroSoft, im just not sure if it will work
This happened to me actually. The lines pasted at the top get teleported somewhere in the file when opening the launcher. The solution to this was to… set the config file to read-only so the lines would stay there. Also deleted this line (and the one that got teleported, basically any mention of direct storage except for the one you put at the top):
direct_storage = {
}
I’m not exactly a tech wiz so I learned this mumbo-jumbo the hard way by testing stuff. I spent some 3 days trying all sorts of fixes until I came across this thread. My issue is both audio stuttering and performance stuttering. Darktide is not exactly well optimized but the weird consistent micro freezing and audio interruption in-game was not there prior to me coming back to the game (I stopped playing sometime before path of redemption and came back sometime around secrets of the machine god) The only thing that worked for me was the suggested solution:
I tested the game thoroughly by looking at the frame time graph obsessively across multiple matches (via msi afterburner overlay) and the excessive micro-stuttering and the audio freezing that were present in every match were gone. Very odd technical issue. I don’t use mods if that matters. Sorry if my text formatting is ass.
Ok I guess its not only a SSD vs HDD issue, if you could provide some gameplay footage I would really appreciate its probably the same issue as mine but I’d like to make sure. Also I know it might be weird to ask but, could you enter your BIOS setup > go to Advanced tab and see if there is a “SATA operation” if it says “RAID on” or “AHCI” but please make sure to NOT MESS WITH IT (ive done it and my pc almost gave a heart attack lmao). Depending on what you see there I might be able to draw some conclusions, much appreciated
FWIW, for stuff like this Afterburner allows file logging, I’m no gfx/game dev but overlays can still introduce weirdness and may be affected by other things, especially when people have a bunch of them running, older OS etc; you’re altering the outcome by observing it type of thing.
You can setup some global hotkeys in Afterburner to assist. e.g.
P.S. Just to clarify, my point was if you’re looking at the graphs, you can look at them after with logging without any overlays in the mix that may taint the results.
I’ll try to find some time to go back to “vanilla” to record my issue as I haven’t recorded anything. I took a look at your recording though and that’s pretty much my issue - constant, intermittent, frequent micro-stuttering and audio interruptions (I know I previously stated that the micro-stuttering was consistent but just to avoid confusion - the stuttering does not occur at set intervals, it is random but constant) The audio stuttering behaves very weirdly - sometimes it stutters, sometimes it just cuts out entirely for the entire mission and maybe comes back once or twice for a couple of seconds throughout.
You do not have to put it in the direct storage options found further below. I actually deleted that line because it didn’t like me inserting that direct storage option at the top. I admit, this was a very confusing process for me to figure out but that’s what worked for me.
Fair criticism. The micro-stuttering was extremely visible though - with the naked eye, it’s not like I absolutely needed the frametime graph to be able to tell the game was going bananas. Nevertheless, to make sure I wasn’t suffering from some sort of placebo effect I ran a match before and after fiddling with the direct storage settings without the overlay (also disabled the other overlays - steam, nvidia app) and I was able to tell the difference.
P.S Logging is very helpful and I wasn’t aware of it previously, thanks for the tip!
Remove the direct storage from the config file. Paste whatever config setup you want AT THE TOP, then set document to read only to ensure it stays enabled?
I’ve also been experimenting with Disabling GPU decompression for my AMD GPU. It seemed to help, but I still get those CRAZY drops in FPS when a horde spawns.
Disabling HAGS makes the game run more consistent, but the frame time is all over the place.
That is the correct process I have to found to be working for me.
I can’t help you with the GPU decompression thing, but fyi Darktide is notorious for running into multiple issues and overall having poorer performance on AMD GPUs. Also one of the more recent issues AMD players have run into is…portrait rendering. Ik how silly it sounds but you might wanna try disabling that in-game (if u haven’t already).
I am aware that the game runs like crap on AMD… I’ve had my GPU for over a year lol.
I’ve been messing around with texture streaming config files and have massively reduced the stuttering, muddy textures, and increased FPS and smoothness overall A LOT. This can also be replicated for NVIDIA users too suprisingly.
Also good to not that Resizeable BAR does not work well with Darktdie. NVIDIA enabled or disables it per game, but AMD its on or off.
I have gotten rid of MOST of my issues, but its not perfect. I still get massive FPS hitches when hordes spawn in.
I’ve really gone down the rabbit hole. I’m reading documentation for the Stingray Autodesk Engine, looking at helldivers config files since its on the same engine. And even looking deep into the direct storage configuration to see if I can fix it.
It seems at least to me that this issue is primarily a RX 7000 series issue. I would point to how many driver optimisations Helldivers 2 got ONLY for the 7000 series of GPUs and that game uses the same engine.
