KNOWN ISSUE: Input Lag, Actions Not Registering Correctly

I found the solution, in fact I had the TV running in the background at the same time as the game, the same in the Hub my character moves with visible and impressive lag movements, I close the browser with a television channel that was running in the background and the instantaneously I no longer have any movement, I think that the anti-cheat software may have a chance of being the cause of the problem …

Still having this issue. Tweaked every setting I can think of with no solutions.

I have/had this same issue. I have done lots of tweaking but it would always end up coming back. I think I have pin pointed my issues. I have an Asus laptop and it was running their Armor Crate software. That software manages the fans and clock speed on the CPU (seemly poorly). Once I uninstalled it I have not had the issue again.

Just wanted to share in case this could help someone else.

Since roughly Sunday, darktide has gone from feeling like an offline game - where all inputs work promptly, enemies move smoothly, everything makes sense - to feeling like a soggy, jittery mess. To be clear, this is NOT an fps complaint - this is lag/latency. I’m on a 13900k w/ a 2070s and broadly performance is totally fine (averaging 80-120). This is a fresh install of windows 11 on a new pc with no hardware issues, and the game ran completely without any problems in the beta and until that date.

I have checked with my isp to make sure the line is functional, done packet loss tests:

Checked my ping to the aws data centres nearby:

checked my ping to various amazon servers. I have tried VPNs (including exitlag) and the problem continues. Other games are unaffected (I can play overwatch with a solid 30-40 latency, no input problems, net graph displays everything fine in that game). Speedtest shows the connection is performing fine (45mbs down 7up, with acceptable latency. Here are videos showing examples of some of the visual effects - though what you can’t see is in the constant random input dropping / delay. Weapon-swapping is the worst of these, but things like my sword special attack have to be hit multiple times while light swinging. Dodges go missing. Sometimes it feels like my character’s position is being slid or nudged sideways. Sometimes things will happen a good 500-1000ms after i pressed the input. Attack animations will weirdly persist slightly too long on contact; enemy attacks will sometimes register hit markers late, or make no sound etc. Enemy animations jerk from one state to the other. Things jitter. Nothing lines up.

Examples:

Video showing me charging, releasing a heavy attack before I reach an enemy, phasing through them and getting desynced damage feedback.

Dodging a mutant, game shows me getting grabbed, then rolls it back a good half second later:

Video showing an extreme example of how bad it can get while just moving in the hub:

A video of general jank. Worth noting what you can’t see here is just how many inputs are being dropped, eg a swap to my melee weapon during the charge just doesn’t happen, so I stand with my gun out.

I cannot emphasise enough how awful the game feels to play. Recoil feels randomly off. Hitmarkers linger, refresh. Sounds sometimes don’t play or overlap. So much interaction is just wildly, wildly off. I would normally not bother reporting something like this because hey - online game - this must be my end, just need to get my connection in order but every single test I can run suggests it’s ok! High update rate multiplayer shooters - well, ow2 - feel absolutely fine. Even when I deliberately test for similar issues (eg on junkrat the mine detonation time is purely a round trip, so when your connection is bad you can instantly feel it) gameplay feels very smooth.

It also seems to get worse as I have the game on. Just after turning the game on, the first few minutes of my first mission are usually ok. Then things just enter the jank zone and become awful. It genuinely just feels like my game is subtly out of sync with the server and my client simulation is constantly fighting the server one

What I can’t see is what the game thinks my latency is like. I would be happy to enable it if there’s a console or something but nobody I have asked knows how. It’s destroyed my enjoyment of the game and I’m completely stumped for what to do to fix it. For reference, in path of exile today I had between 6-8 latency and not a single spike, stutter or drop of any kind on full lockstep to the server. The connection is clearly functional.

For what it’s worth, I just deleted and redownloaded the entire game, problem persists!

I have this exact same issue. I have no latency issues with other games either but for some reason I will have severe input lag and all the issues you have shown here.

Has this always been the case or did it start recently for you? And do you get the weird jitter when you press into enemies?

I have had the issue intermittently since a few days after release. Some evenings it is an issue, others it is fine. I have tried connecting with a VPN but it did nothing to alleviate it. I just cross my fingers each evening and hope it does affect me that day.
It often feels like the client recognises my inputs but the server does not.
Some examples :

  • Shooting my weapon and getting a hit marker, but the enemy does not die (This happens with a bolter when firing at pox walkers or mobian guardsmen) the bullet also seems to be not used either as the counter goes back to showing what I had right before I shot.
  • Using my ability and the screen filter effect shows but it does not use the charge and I don’t get the effects.
  • Swapping weapons and they instantly swap back
  • Picking up items can take a few attempts
  • Not sure about weird jitter with enemies, but I find sometimes I get a a kind of rubber banding, but it feels more like my character is stuck on something that is not there.
  • Aiming down sights does not always register, it will start to aim down my sight but than jump back out to hip fire position instantly before finishing the animation to bring the weapon up to aim.
  • Holding down left click for a short burst but when leaving go it continues to fire until I run out of ammunition or left click again.

None of the above are constant, but very common when I get this. But when it starts it usually stays for quite some time.
I have also gotten that issue with charging with zealot and janking through the enemy that you have a video of in your original post.
Also I am on windows 10, felt I should mention as you said you are on windows 11.

Getting similar issues.

Seems tied to the fact that everything is server-side, including registering basic attack inputs.

The best part? Coincidentally seems to be 50% of the party who have butter-smooth inputs, while the rest of the party has snail responses.

Thanks for this detailed report

I hope the issue is being taken seriously, the game is becoming unbearable

Getting mowed down because the game rollbacks your inputs 5, 6 times in a row is unacceptable

Things have gotten worse with 1.0.14 fix for me.

This still happens on and off. Sometimes it looks like this:

Which I don’t even know what that is supposed to be

It’s terrible

90% of my games in Heresy/Damnation look like this now

It’s getting worse, and worse and worse

I noticed a lot of input delay playing last night on any actions whether they were shooting, swinging a melee weapon, crouching, jumping, or interacting with something in the game world. I thought it was my internet, but I was still experiencing it this morning and asked some of the people I was playing with if their experience was the same since the last patch and they said that they’d also been getting a terrible amount of input delay. It doesn’t matter what map we play or graphics settings, the game frequently doesn’t respond to inputs.

Been having this issue since release. Has anyone found a solution? I have read just about every post on the internet about this issue and it all ends the same, with no solution provided. The game becomes unplayable. If anyone has found anything please let me know.

Same issue here. I posted a report yesterday but it was temporarily deleted for verification and still isn’t up.

Issue Description:

My inputs aren’t registered or are canceled after I press them. I have asked in the discord if others are having this issue and others confirmed they are as well. I’ve added a couple videos below for reference. Thank you.

Edited to tighten up formatting, grammar and my late night spelling errors.
