For reference, I played the beta (thank God) and stayed away until the class patch. I got a 4 person group to pickup the game yesterday and we’re having a go of it. I will say it’s pretty fun gameplay wise. At the end of the night though, all 4 of us were already asking about how we get new weapons, and why we still look like homeless people at level 14.
Is the armory/emperors gift the only way to get weapons and should I be spending my currency up to 30 or wait?
Can you get cosmetics from missions or have to buy? 2 of us got one cosmetic item for one slot in 6hrs of play. If that’s the rate of drop, then getting a set, let alone a matching set is mathematically impossible.
Last one. Is there a reason why you can’t have access to all maps on all difficulties? There were only 3 maps available for us noobs last night on Sedition and when we started keeping track, we played the Carnival 6 out of 8 times on quickplay. We were so sick of it we almost stopped right there lol.
Thanks all. I know it’s been said, but the character patch with the trees feels great.
Yes; while levelling just use whatever and save the currency for level 30. Sire Melk has a shop too that you’ll unlock soon, but again, save until level 30 unless you see a T4 blessing you want.
Yes, there’s quite a number of cosmetics in the penances (achievements), mainly in the class and redacted categories.
The Carnival was just released so it’s on the board permanently until next week, and yes, the mission board design is still at best contentious if not outright bad design. Quick play will only ever give you the maps on the board + whatever maps of the previous rotation that are still going and have slots.
1: Definitely hold onto your materials (plasteel and cubes) until 30. I had great success leveling up new characters and just buying new weapons off of Brunt at about 50 power level increments. Upgrading stuff before then largely won’t benefit you much, and you’ll miss those mats later.
Other than Brunt’s hourly shop, there is the armory with random rolls on a weapon of your choice or Melk’s Limited Aquisition shop (which I think is best for getting high-level specific blessings you want).
2: Check out Penances in the main menu to see cosmetics you can unlock. Or visit the Commissary to look at ones you can buy with normal currency.
3: They haven’t said why they did this, but it is almost certainly a measure to ensure that games fill up quickly regardless of player count. No one loves it, but I understand the decision.
~1: you get weapons from brunt’s store, melk’s rewards, and mission rewards. you’ll unlock melk later, he uses a currency you get from doing contracts and offers higher-tier weapons. right now you should only be buying weapons from brunt if they have good base stats and are weapons you don’t currently have a version you like, otherwise that money can be used on cosmetics.
~2: you get a fair amount of cosmetic unlocks through penances, which you can check at the book in the hallway straight forward when you log in. they’re connected to preset challenges, so you can target the one you want easily enough. they rest are bought with in-game or real currency.
~3: the carnival is currently part of an event so it’s like…half the available missions. that’sll stop in a couple weeks. usually there’s enough mission slots you can get any mission pretty much but quickplay’s gonna be all carnival all the time right now.
Personally, I did a bit of crafting on lower levels (just like OP, after the beta I took a break until the class patch), and it’s fine. Sure, it won’t be usable for long, but when the store offers a decent green weapon I wanted to try out, spending a little bit of Plasteel to get it blue and get a blessing with it was affordable (lower ratings are cheaper). Granted, I did have a nearly fully leveled character from beta that I could acquire currency from, and some leftover from that time.
Everything else’s been said already.
You get decent clothes just by leveling to 30. You can get more by completing Penances.
Weapons are still RNG from the armory, inventory changes every hour on the hour. Melk’s quests will give you currency for his weapons, which tend to be the best source of T3-T4 blessings. Generally leveling up just try out different weapons (don’t worry about min-maxing till 30), they’re almost all strong but have different strengths (dodge distance, hordes, elites, reload speed, draw speed, accuracy, etc). Don’t worry about the stats too much, just play around… 0% damage is nowhere near 0 damage, its just the bottom of the damage range and is still quite effective.
Brunts is a complete waste of time even if you somehow play the game enough to have millions of dockets every week. Do not bother with it. If you’re a PC player you should be modding, that is basically this game’s biggest strength to VT2 at the minute. Then you can use this
This is literally still the only feasible way of amassing the stupid lottery tickets you need actual piles of to literally waste at Hadron. Just pick up everything good, waste them at Hadron when you get on, lament the absolutely awful combined decision choice. You don’t even need to boot the game to get stuff, so the bean-counting eyeball trackers key-logging everything in the morningstar can’t even see you.
There are a number of cosmetics apparently related to more penances and the like that aren’t going to be released any time soon, I guess. I mean we just got the class update in October, but none of the armors related to those subclass roles that we’ve been looking at since the beta. Obviously these are all intentional to drive sales in the premium store, providing little if any free cosmetics choice. This is another deliberately harmful element of the design, if you are actually a fan of Warhammer. Because a) you don’t really get any customization and b) the cosmetics shown so far have mostly been garbage or at best terrible cosplay.
And last but not least yes, for some reason they decided you don’t get to interact with Darktide how you actually would like at any point on top of all the other things suffocating choice. The mission board is easily the most offensive of the bunch, and no solo play a year later despite being a priority last December and now demoted to ‘lol just use mods’ is an even bigger joke.
Literally only play for the gameplay, when I get maps I like to play, when mods are working.
Thanks everyone for the replies, I never thought to check penances.
The maps issue is a weird one for sure. On VT2 I must have played the Bell 1000 times. Loved it. That and Righteous Stand we’d do over and over again so I certainly have no issue redoing maps if gameplay is fun. I suppose the crux of it right now is I just have no idea what maps I’d like…because I can only see so few of them.
