What if in 2 to 3 years from now FS decides to stop supporting their servers and move on with their next project? What will darktide become then? Dead?
At least everyone interested can still play vermintide 1 and 2 being p2p. So is DT doomed without future server support?
This may be true but doesn’t mean that DT is doomed. I mean there will always be fanatic players to support it (check the 2k players daily). But if servers become obsolete someday what then?
Yea if they decide amazon is too expensive and cut the service then it’ll be truly unplayable, and that’s not hyperbole. At least as it’s architected now anyway, I really wonder if they won’t try to add a p2p option maybe a year or so down the line. The community has been pushing hard for map selection and the way it’s built now there’s just no way that’d make financial sense, they’d have to change their approach.
Lots of games go on to the bitter, unsupported end. No big deal. Time spent, time wasted. Make some friends, watch them burn out or get banned from the community one way or another.
yes and no, i’ve seen similar games, where modders, turned the game back to life, with hosted servers.
that’s not the problem, the problem is if there is even enough interest in doing that, this game has no soul, figuratively and literally.
that’s the risk you take with any live service game. it’s surprising that anybody buys skins for these games for that reason alone, let alone the fact that it’s $20 for digital fluff
This. Big reason I don’t buy skins for DT (aside from the price, the clipping, FOMO strategy and scummy Aquila pricing leaving a bad taste in my mouth, just don’t want to play often enough, etc) is that I’m not confident that everything I might buy isn’t just gonna disappear because they shut the game down within in a year or two.
honestly people massively overesstimate servermaintanance
they made plenty of content vor V2 and supported it for quite some time, admittedly V2 had stable 5K peak numbers, where DT already goes down to 3K.
but then again FS is relatively small they can’t drop a title this soon, because they don’t have the follower count that buys anything without thinking like EA or ubisoft does, or can throw Mountains of money at marketing to generate hype around the world
if they leave a game in a sucky state it will tremendously impact next sale. even tho they most likely have the funds from DT sales to start development on a new project, all the people i knew from V2 were cautious with DT, but i guarantee you none of them will even show up to test the next title.
V1 had a “indie” start, dimond in the rough, launch
V2 had a disappointing and exhausting launch an hiccup in otherwise well seen studio.
DT was an trainwreck and FS showed their true nature
and most feel like this saying
fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me
Sooo… right now a small not so reliable dev team like FS keeps servers alive for at least three games? (DT, vermin 1 + 2). And if i understand correctly, the only chance to save any of these games if devs decide to go bananas and abandon everything, is modders?
Only DT has servers, both VT1 and 2 are Peer to peer and you can link up manually
Well in the unlikely case where VT1 and 2 are dropped they would probably give ways to link up without needing to use the server. Kinda like older online games usually did (Like LotR BfME).
But there isn’t really any reason atm to worry about those sort of things
VT1 and VT2 only has authentication/account verification servers, they would have to bypass them if they were to shut those down. You can’t even load into VT2 if the server is down or having issues.
