Is it taboo to use plasma in auric

Thanks for the explanation!

Alright here is the first video I have of me doing decent with a Plasma Rifle. Let’s keep in mind I have never used the Plasma Rifle before. I leveled my Veteran to 178 and used a Kantrael/Bolter when I did play then proceeded to put 1100 hours into my Zealot.

I got 500k damage and top scores for the most part. I still have some things I need to iron out and my aim still needs improvement.

First things I noticed about the Plasma Gun - Ammo reserve is awful. I originally thought it had a lot of ammo but the reality is it just has 2 giant magazines. That thing goes through ammo so fast on higher difficulties - if I am playing with teammates that don’t know how to manage their ammo, I will be in orange/red the entire game.

Outside of the ammo issues, the weapon is just as overpowered as I thought it was. There is a few examples of me getting my aim correct in that video and absolutely obliterating stuff from a distance before my teammates could even consider breathing at them. Another 50-100 hours of this and I could see myself achieving exactly what I said I would.

Outside of that though, I have seen a few other Veterans perform better than me with a Revolver. Of course they were level 500+ but I am not sure what I would consider better - a revolver or plasma rifle. After I am done messing with the Plasma I will give the revolver a go

Good lord, do you have weapon special double-bound to social wheel !?

That’s one of the things I ironed out after this video lol. I had never switched the social wheel keybind and didn’t know how but I figured it out after this game lmao. You’ll notice me reload a few times by accident instead of vent because I am so used to playing my Zealot and reloading every 5 seconds lol

Looking at the numbers, I’m not sure I see where the PG is super broken here.

Averaging the total team damage, it comes out to 508k, you did 537k, a 6% variance from the mean. You had two teammates do 100k-ish less damage than you, one that did 100k-ish more damage than you. You had the most elites/specials killed, but that’s also common on Vets given their Sharpshooter archetype role (particularly when running Exe stance), and the other Vet got the 2nd most Elite/Specials killed without a PG (and also took less damage).

Meanwhile the two Psykers cleaned house on Lesser enemies killed, while the other Vet did the most Boss damage.

It’s hard to see where the PG is overwhelmingly broken from the stats presented there. Are those numbers significantly outside the realm of what you normally do? Good performance for sure, but it doesn’t appear to be wildly dominating either.

You don’t seem to get I am already top of the board after playing with the Plasma gun for less than 10 hours lol. If you read my post I said another 50-100 hours of this and I will be doing much more than 500k damage.

How much retraining on game weapons do you need? 10 hours of gameplay is as much as some entire titles offer (Space Marine 2 for example if playing the campaign), 50-100 hours is a literal 2-3 week seminar for a real life course, and far beyond what most people play most games for.

Likewise, you’re top of the board only in terms of Elites/Specials killed, while running Exe stance that dramatically assists with that. In terms of total damage, boss damage, and lesser enemies, other teammates scored better, and who knows how much experience they have with whatever weapons and loadouts they’re using.

I mean I’ve barely used the plasma myself as I find it a bit boring, and even from the little bits I skimmed in the vid you can see there’s a bit of room for improvement in positioning, lining up skewers and dumping heat vs not+reload. At the very least you’re looking at a likely ~20% bump with a bit more practice?
On a more linear map plasma efficiency also goes up, and I’d wager something like comms plex would be a bigger bump. Similar to the end section here before doors to last event holdout (where psyker blew himself up lol)

P.S. Anybody else bothered by spawn grab and other vet not staggering it?

“oh you are only top of the board because you are using this skill and that skill” bruh lmao. That’s the point. You go from saying “you can’t do this” to me clearly showing I can then you say “well you are using THIS skill” lol. You also must not play Darktide a lot if you don’t understand the basis of improving at this game. You said 10 hours of gameplay is as much as some titles offer yet why is it the majority of level 50-100s still have a ton to learn? At this point you are trying to make excuses and it is very obvious lol.

Don’t worry when I post another video in a few weeks clearly showing exactly what I said, you’ll find another excuse to dance around the point with.

Veteran and Zealot are also two completely different playstyles. I haven’t played my Veteran in well over 1000 hours and have played Psyker/Zealot in the meantime. There is a ton of improvement to be had and you will see it as I keep playing

I can already tell I would enjoy using the Revolver much more but I am going to prove my point first since people can’t seem to eat their pride

Sure there are things that could have been done better, but same could be said of the teammates (and can usually be said of every match, nobody performs 100% all the time). Watching through the playthrough and looking at the scoreboard, mostly the vid just comes off as “exe stance Vet is great at killing Elites/Specials” rather than “Plasma is overpowered”.

Absolutely, and there are definitely a few instances in which the PG’s Cleave can be really taken advantage of, but we didn’t get to see that in this vid.

Hrm, you’re putting a lot of words in my mouth here and projecting quite a bit.

You’re not on top of the board. You’re only on top of Elites/Specials, while using an Ult designed to do…exactly that. Aside from that, others outperformed you in every other damage measure.

Again, beyond “Exe stance vet is great at killing elites/specials”, I’m not seeing where the Vid shows the PG as being outrageously overpowered. Nothing in the recording or stats backs that up.

I already proved the point that I have never used this weapon and a few games into using it I am already top of kills and near top damage. “You aren’t near the top cause you didn’t top everything” “You used executioner stance that’s the only reason you killed elites/specials” lol. Do you understand how you sound

Let’s break this down again.

You’re only on top in terms of Elite and Specialist kills, not any other kill metric. You accomplish this while using an ability that specially highlights and picks them out for you.

Your total damage is almost exactly average for the party as a whole, not near the top, and are 120k behind the top party member.

Likewise, we have no idea how experienced the other players are or how well they know their weapons either.

Not seeing the definitive proof of PG dominance here.

I don’t really think this really show plasma is op at all, it kinda just does what it supposed to.

I think you are getting called out because it’s just that a build does what it supposed to. Eg: You supposed to top lesser killed on Ogryn Knife build or a Purgatus setup.

I think you should just slap it on a melee build and see how it does there, it’s a better combo. Exa Stance is for thing like Recon and AIG, and both does better than plasma (on Exa Build). Melee Vet is also something that will be easier for you to adjust to as a 1100 hour Zealot player.

BTW I feel like getting a getting the first room to solo clear plus teammates just trickling in also did inflate the numbers a bit.

IDK how good you usually perform, but as a best game from a 10 hour play (20 games?) doesn’t scream op to me.

yea plasma gun can easily finish ammo quickly, I think it is fair due to the fact it’s a good weapon.

i saw a bit the video, great overall
only few things I advice, it is to not worry about reducing the overheat of the plasma gun as in you can actually go to 100% overheat and if you do another M1 it will automatically reduce the overheat by itself, so no worries about exploding, that only happens if doing M2 + M1

in fact a good thing about plasma, it is that if there are many elites, specials, you can spam M1s and with good aim it can be really nice, without the worries about exploding, because it will not happen.

another thing I’d advice, even though maybe not important but that can be considered something to master about plasma, is the ability to reload way faster, you can achieve this by sprinting in the middle of the 3 animations when reloading. not sure if you did in the video, I believe not, but it is something i advice as in, it does increase by a lot the speed reload, way faster than the normal reload. it may take a bit practice but once you understood all the steps it will be natural and smooth.

Okay let’s REPHRASE since the people on these forums obviously don’t like that word. The weapon is OVERTUNED. With proper aim, positioning and timing I can kill anything and everything in 1-2 shots. There is no other weapon in the game that can achieve the same thing from such a distance besides the revolver and the revolver is limited to 5 shots.

I don’t understand the argument against this when it is very clearly true. Yes, the weapon has its downsides. However those downsides do not outweigh how utterly strong this weapon is with proper playstyle and positioning. I am not asking for a nerf. I could care less if I joined a game with three other plasma gun vets - the idea as to why I even replied to this post is to say the weapon is indeed over-tuned and we got people over here trying to say it isn’t lol. I’ll keep practicing and I’ll be sure to post my progress in a few weeks.

I didn’t get on my Veteran to spend another 500 hours doing melee lmao I just spent 1100 hours on my Zealot. You and this other dude are also knitpicking everryyyy little thing its kind of sad. I clearly posted a video showing exactly what I said I would do with absolutely bare minimum practice and your guys response is “weLl yOu aRe uSiNg tHiS aNd dOiNg tHaT” I didn’t realize there was a checklist I needed to fulfill before you guys accept you were wrong lmao.

Edit: It’s also hilarious both you and the other guy are trying to tell me 10 hours is plenty of playtime to get good LOL. People over here level 200 and still suck at the game.

You know I had that happen a few times but I wasn’t sure what would be more efficient lol I’ll give this a shot. When you say sprinting in the middle of 3 animations what do you mean exactly? Sprinting when I start the reload?

The auto-dump of heat into tuf is a core mechanic of M1 spam, it will vent and then shoot in quick succession. You rarely need to vent heat manually if ever as you keep the “Gets Hot” blessing going for crit chance. The only issue is it resets Blaze Away stacks on vent(auto or manual), but who cares really, that’s just gravy on the spam.
Spam M1, dodge/slide around to get better skewers if applicable, profit.

P.S. Those reload bypass mechanic holes should be plugged…

Sure it can kill most anything in a couple shots. It’s…always generally been able to do that. That’s the point. This is a weapon that can one-shot a Space Marine and penetrate the frontal armor of most vehicles in the 40k universe.

Literally nobody has argued otherwise that it’s incapable of that.

That said, “shot” in this case is also variable. Can you one-shot a Crusher? yes with a fully charged headshot. If you’re just left-click spamming into the thing its probably going to take you 4 shots.

The PG could be the most overpowered thing in the universe, and it just didn’t come through in that video, simple as. It came off as an Exe Stance vet doing their job.

You came in with a video talking about how straight up overpowered it was, then crowed about how you placed top of the scoreboard.

When we actually then look at the scoreboard, the only metric you were on top of was Elites/Specials killed, while running an Exe stance Vet, a build that should be on top of that metric if you’re doing your job right (which, credit where credit is due, you did).

Aside from that you placed exactly mid in terms of overall team damage (a bit over 100k behind the top, a bit over 100k ahead of the bottom) accounting for almost exactly 1/4th of the 4 person team’s damage total, 2nd in boss damage, and 3rd in lesser enemies killed (while wielding a weapon with infinite cleave). By these metrics, nothing is coming off as overtuned/powered/whatever you want to call it.

And you can continue talking all you want about how little practice you have with the weapon, we have no idea what experience your party members had with their weapons or builds, so can’t weigh that variable when looking at the video.

Homeslice, you dropped a single video with a bunch of uncontrolled variables, showing a solid but far from dominating performance, and declared it definitive proof of the weapon having a problem, then got mad when people pointed those issues out. The capslock typing and deflections and calling people “sad” or whatnot, and refusal to address points made about your stats relative to other teamates or build after repeating how “on top” you were, just makes you look triggered.

TL;DR Regardless of whether the Plasma Gun is overtuned/insanely OP/however you want to phrase it, that video just didn’t particularly show it off.
