Infantry Lasguns and some ideas to make them better and more fun

I have a handful of suggestions and thoughts.

  1. Lower the recoil. They’re lasers, for crying out loud. Your reticle should not be bouncing all over the place. I know it’s fairly low already, but it’s just really annoying.
EDIT: The recoil is fine, but the visual bounce is very annoying. Though lasers should have no recoil at all.

  2. Add a new blessing or something so that crit hits have higher pierce. Hell, maybe they make a small explosion on hit and keep going the way Bolter shots do (toned down, of course), in exchange using more ammo.

  3. Bayonets. Why aren’t these an option? AFFIX BAYONETS!

I think the issue is not the recoil “value”, but the visual recoil. People who played Battlefield 3 and 4 will understand what I am talking about, Lasgun recoil feels very wierd compared to let’s say autoguns.

Yes, homogenise the game further to make up fr a lack of skill.

I would rather classes are removed and we are given universal talent pools and everyone has the same skin.

  1. Default hold to auto shoot, swift bow treatment maybe reduced recoil on chain shots
  2. Range Finesse bonus stat, to reward them headshot builds and keystones better

All good, I enjoy one shotting everything and being able to kill Crushers from ranged. Great balance proposal and support. Make me OP.

This would actually be pretty simple.

Give them Surgical as a blessing.

This would let them do 1-hit headshots on most targets easily. Boom, it goes back to being a useful precision weapon.

Couldnt find the great video Khorne_Dawg made, but he had many good ideas to bring the Lasgun up to the status it deserves as an iconic 40k weapon. Trying to remember everything he covered.

-Less intense recoil and suppression effect
-Better blessing pool to enhance its strength as a dmr and round it out more with ones such as Dum Dum to make it a better close range assault rifle, and Hotshot to hit priority targets within a horde.
-Align the slowest mk to the others DPS
-Auto fire on holding click

Bruh, I went to his youtube channel, didn’t see it, and searched for ‘Lasgun’ and got no results. Thanks for linking it to the thread.

How about making them “good” and “not annoying to use”? Enforest said it best as it’s the visual recoil, the bounciness, that is annoying. There’s no playing around that like you can with the Autoguns.

I don’t want to one-shot Crushers, but I’d like Lasguns to not be annoying and to have something kind of useful about them. I love to use them, I do Maelstroms with them for fun, but they’ve got issues.

They already do one hit Headshots. You fish for crits with Headhunter. They medium and heavy kantraels have no problem oneshotting gunners, none at all.

Personally I find the ‘bounciness’ quite manageable and actually beneficial to scoring those headshots. I bought this game to use Lasguns and Im definitely not wanting. If you take an autogun build (Onslaught) the light and Medium have no problem killing Crushers. Theyre not designed for it, but you can make them do it reasonably effectively.

Poeple come at it from the point of view of ‘i should have to work as a team in a class based teamwork centric game’ and thats wrong. If you struggle, take a shovel with Impact to give yourself the ability to mae space and reposition. Bear in mind you WILL NEED to melee. Thankfully the drawtime of Lasguns is pretty fast.

Im sorry but to say they dont oneshot effectively is way off the mark, literally and metaphorically. Personally I think theyre very balanced weapons with a ton of replayability; everything Vet has works for them. They require aim, which requires situational awareness to know when to shoot, what to shoot, and how much time you can buy yourself (via Reciprocity) to shoot. Theyre not and will never have what Revolvers have/are which is a big fat projectile where its almost impossible to miss. If you have sufficient aim.

Moving them to full auto wil lleave precision playstyles wanting, with only semi-shot Vigilant which was already reworked because it was too similar to Kantrael4 (light alsgun. blue lasgun. I just call them sizes or colours).

Theyre already VERY useful weapons, very versatile, and require forethought to make the most of, they arent a reactionary weapon like a PG or Revolver, you need to know how youre going to fight before you do to make the most out of them.

You’re saying the bounce in aim helps you line up headshots? I find that a little hard to believe given the amount of lateral movement is in there. You should know from BF that that’s not a kind of recoil you can account for and very negatively affects accuracy.

I second the idea of “hold to shoot”, though. I love using the Lasguns but after a game it is a bit of a strain on my fingers. I don’t think change the fire rate, just allow hold for those times you are wanting to dump shots down range, and save your fingers the repeated clicking.

Why do you find it hard to believe?

Edit

They all have a next_shot delay that is in line with the bounce, or enough time to manage the bounce. You arent controlling the weapon. Practice with the Kantrael MG4 in the lab and you’ll either get the groove or it’ll be alien to you, but please, just because you find something hard to believe doesnt make it ‘not true’.

Use the precise reticule to line up presice headshots. Use the larrger reticule when you need to acquire faster, or when you need volume of shots.
All the ‘irons’ in this game are designed quite well and I genuinely applaud FS for them, theyre better than many pvp games’s.

The bounce on the blue lasgun actually does help me hit headshots aswell, don’t know why but it does.
Edit: actually I know exactly why, it reminds me Bf1’s Medic rifles.

My only biggest issue is - Why did Fatshark make the Hellbore the only weapon you need to turn the safety off before use, it is nothing more than a useless time consuming animation.

I managed to get to 1.06 of that video before I ahd to close it, not my thing and simply not true. So, although I dont use it much since launch basically, the heavy Kantrel still womps and definitely, confirmed, does one tap specials and gunners and will take a rager below half healt t what feels around 35%-40% on a crit. I personally have no problem landing headshots and if the thing had any cleave it’d be a ranged Dueling Sword.

Stop mashing the fire button and control your weapons and maybe you’ll have a better time? If you fire ALL Lasguns as fast as the next_shot_delay or whatever will let you, the bloom will take its accuracy out of manageable levels. On ALL. Lasguns. You need to control them. You need to aim them. You need to do these things, not because I’m supremely arrogant and confident in my abilities, no, thats not true, but BECAUSE this is how the weapons are made currently.

If you want to reduce the bloom and the next shot delay thats fine, expect to see gods out there headshotting everything. If you want to reduce the camerashake or the felt aimpunch, go ahead. You simply have no idea what you’re doing. FatSharks Lasguns, while play-wise leave a little to be desired, are genuine works of art and the replayability of the various models is simply really really fun. Like krak for Lasgun junkies. I’d know.

Regarding Helbore, it has a slow draw time (in this case the animation of how Lasguns c0ck), because if you could quick switch it and shoot everything without having to think, you’d quick switch between melee and ranged and kill everything and not have to think. The weapon kills everything in the game only limited by the space you have or the users ability to hit headshots. This is how it should be, regardless of if the playerbase has hjacked the meta or not.

Helbore uncharged shots are a great example of NOT firing it as fast as you can if you want to keep accurate shots and control of it. If you spit them out the weapon becomes much more difficult to landhead shots, whereas if yu pause and let the ads coneof fire bloom settle, you can chain accurate headshots.

This is the thing with people quoting videos, theyre by people who maybe can’t leverage the topics theyre discussing efficiently.

OH FFS I cant even c0ck a Helbore without the FS forumpolice telling me not to be rude.

I don’t know what can be said or done to make these weapons ‘easier’ or ‘more accessible’ to users. Theyre precision weapons. The Recons are for pewpew repidfire laz0rz. These thigns hit heads and one shot things. They also DO have cleave on lesser trash mobs. The helbores in particular but Kaltraels also.

Little known tip. If an enemy is staggered, it has less mass, so you can shoot through something on the second shot but not the first.

I don’t know why you are responding to me as if I made the video, I linked it because the guy above me mentioned it. Personally I don’t have much of an opinion at all about the infantry lasguns they’re not really my thing I prefer hipfire weapons, as for the helbores I personally would like if the long equip time was removed but it’s not something often speak about because I see the helbore enjoyers defend it and I don’t wanna ruin their weapon for them there is other guns that fit my playstyle better anyway.

Literally you’re the only one who has brought up “easier” or “more accessible”. Stop projecting.

I find the bounce annoying because they’re lasers and should not have any recoil at all (yes, if you had enough energy they would, but if you do the math it’s far beyond reasonable, even for 40k).

Also, they should have bayonets as an option because they’re cool. End of story. And some damn blessings that are interesting and unique, instead of boring ones.

I can’t even with the naming conventions in this game, but I’ve been using the lightest of the Lasguns that fires the fastest, the visual bounce on rapid fire is very annoying.
