In Versus: Chat to All - why?

I just dont understand why is in the game? Lots of shady, toxic people can write to all, insulting those, who are newbies for example, or just not that good, then them (I dont count those, who are in crossfire, but they can shoot pecisely nevertheless - we have like this too). I had - not once - games like lvl 11 players against greenish insignias. So fair.

I suggest to remove the “all chat” option, totally useless, the team should communicate to each other, not the opposition. In PvP 2 things are constant: cheaters and toxic people.

There are lots of toxic people playing this game, I have more than 3500 hours, during the years we have encountered tons of them. No need to give them a chance to blossom.

You can mute people in text chat.

I recall seeing statistics somewhere that most flaming/toxic chat doesnt come from the “enemy” teams in PVP games/modes. It comes from your own team like 80%+ of the time.

Some games like league of legends have tried all manner of sh*t to fix this but i cant recall if anything ever worked or even helped. Usually people were just sad they couldnt chat with eachother while toxic trolls found ways to troll&be toxic anyway.

Most the time “/all chats” are actually used as a normal medium of communication, people joking/having fun/ just chatting. I recently had a game where i found myself alone against 4 skaven. I chatted with them for a bit and they actually agreed to wait until my side had 3 more players. Then we joyfully had 2 rounds before the game went into infinite loading on the third round.

But it was really nice until then.

Peak gaming and absolute fun just like in the good old days, i was called cheater already and treated to be reported on Steam, lol. Stuff like “gay sex anyone?” from the enemy team. I sh1ttalk on my mates, they sh1ttalk on me.

Just mute people or go away with your sterile and cosy modern approach.

Boomers we are gaming.

I use All chat to banter with the other team and compliment their good plays, and have been pleasantly surprised with interactions so far. It feels better when I get to say “nice grab” to the opposing hookrat like it’s a friendly neighborhood scrimmage. It’s even useful sometimes, being able to offer tips or clarify mechanics. Most toxicity comes from your own team flaming or venting when they get got.
I know for sure it’s not all roses though and you will get jerks spewing hate speech. As long as the reporting tool is robust and it’s easy to mute & block players from the social menu, that works for me. I see the argument to simply not allow the All chat, it’s definitely valid. I personally support letting opposing teams have their banter, it feels more like a community this way.

Okay, quick example from real life: I help prepare competitors for competitions with cash prizes. They get ranked on their performance and somebody’s gotta be on the bottom. In the past, the people who didn’t place top 3 would get really disappointed and be affected quite negatively. I changed the format to where I host a gathering for the competitors to meet eaach other prior to the competition. Completely changed the vibe. They started cheering each other on and supporting each other, congratulating each other at the end. People who didn’t place in the top 3 didn’t feel awful at the end. Getting to know your competitors makes them less of an enemy and more of a peer.

There are worse things than people saying mean things to your opponents

There is no good reason to remove all-chat. If people want to be toxic, then they will find one way or another to do it. As others have said, a lot of flaming can also come from your team.

The Internet is going to be like that. Not everyone is going to be nice. You can try to be nice and I’m sure you’ll find quite a few fellows who are also enjoyable to interact with.

Trying to create the most sterile environment possible doesn’t help anyone and it won’t deter folks who are dead-set on being toxic. I believe you can report players if you so choose, though.
