Impacts of incoming balance on vet's base toughness

how are you supposed to play exec stance without the extra +25 from the melee side of the tree

did executioners stance needed this nerf? in the current state of things?

i felt like vet suffered from the lack of +25 toughness on the ranged side of the tree aswell, but instead of fixing that with the new tree they exacerbated the problem

yes they hate vet

oh and if you consider half of vet talents scale with max toughness you can figure out immediately if this new update is going to be a buff or a nerf

iron will is going to be even more worthless, same as confirmed kill, then you go exhilarating takedown to compensate but that is less effective also, catch a breath is less effective aswell, and the +10% toughness resist node is less effective aswell, but since he’s the only survivor you better take it anwyays

you will be scrambling for crumbs (even more than before, vet toughness economy had real issues since they nerfed the base 200 in the talent tree rework)

by playing it the same way
idk about you but you can literally face tank multiple gunners with executioner’s stance in havoc 40 without dodging at all, vastly outregenning the damage you recieve
would take quite a heavy reduction to change that, of which this is not

a single basic scab shooter is going to down you in h40, with your exec stance up and going, never mind a gunner, or god forbid a reaper

think like that and you’ll end up in smoke grenade sad bench in no time

no, you’ll be stuck with voc with everyone else

so its safe to say you havent actually played exe stance/mmf in havoc 40 then

i played it with bolter, so no need of mmf or any other keystone, i made it work with maxed out toughness, but i’d argue it wouldn’t work with -40

i’d take the second +25 over those jokes of keystones any day of the week

that is literally half of the thing im talking about
+60% toughness replenishment for playing the game

it might work on rec lasgun i reckon, but i’m fed up with fatshark forcing that gameplay down my throat

this why I fw you so heavy

I have reasonable suspicion that you’ve never played Havoc 40. In Havoc 40, most ranged enemies are buffed to the point where they deal extremely high damage. There’s absolutely no way you’d end up in the kind of shootout with ranged enemies that you’re describing. In Havoc mode, a Veteran face-tanking ranged enemies in a straight-up firefight either relies on smoke grenades or a Psyker’s bubble shield, not standing there trading shots as an Executioner without getting downed like you’re claiming. Have you actually experienced the firepower of fifteen gunners? Or are the players you queue with just so strong that they carry you, a player who isn’t particularly skilled, to the point where you can post something like this?

In the new version, the Veteran’s melee survivability has been made extremely unforgiving due to the removal of the stamina bonus from small-node talents and the base 40-second cooldown on Golden Toughness. Although Fat Shark says the Veteran is a ranged class, in this version you can’t just keep soaking up bullets and hogging your teammates’ resources—you’ll definitely switch to melee and go in to chop. But that’s where the problem shows up: although the Dueling Sword can’t match the Power Sword in damage, it gives the Veteran more mobility and survivability bonuses. The Power Sword itself has higher dodge cost and stamina consumption than the Dueling Sword, at the cost of trading away damage. But in the new version, the Veteran no longer needs that much damage, so a single Dueling Sword can absolutely become the main weapon for every build, whether it’s a ranged or melee BD. And in Havoc mode, where survivability is even more punishing, Veterans will definitely lean toward Golden Toughness, which adds team utility, and the Dueling Sword, which keeps them alive—which in turn causes the Power Sword’s usage rate to drop even further.

In the new version, the Helbore lasgun might be a better fit. Its large reserve of spare ammo, combined with its own blessing that guarantees a crit after aiming for a certain time, paired with the Veteran’s crits not consuming lasgun ammo, allows the Veteran to deal damage to a single elite at long range without consuming a single bullet the entire time. I think this could be a pretty good build in the new version—it’s just that I’m still deciding whether to take the Marked target or the Sharpshooter keystone.

My English expression may be quite poor. I hope you can understand my suggestion.

With 2 gunner resists curios, confirmed kill, with iron will, and close order drill you can laugh off groups of gunners easily. Just finished a havoc match with exec stance, and yes, I was trading fire with gunners. The only time I had to back out when shotgunners got in the mix or if there were multiple pox bombers.

Total gunner and reaper death.

Maybe in Executioner mode, the single-shot lasgun combined with the Ghost blessing’s ranged immunity could let you trade fire with ranged enemies at long distance? But I’m not sure that when I’m trading shots with ranged enemies, my teammates can give me enough time to deal with them. Sometimes when I’m dealing with ranged enemies, my teammates might let melee enemies get right in my face, so I can’t focus on the ranged ones. It’s hard to say how many ranged weapon options there will be in the new version, but the single-shot lasgun combined with Ghost and the new version’s talents might become better than it is in this version?

Nice BD. I’ll try it out next time I squad up. Though that net in the video really did give me a sense of helplessness, haha. But if it’s paired with the single-shot lasgun’s Ghost blessing, could you stay standing longer? After all, the blessing says it grants immunity to ranged damage.

The new shotgun weapon—I’m not sure whether the Veteran will have more BDs after getting this kind of weapon. A shotgun paired with Sharpshooter and Executioner feels like a pretty good BD in the new version. Unfortunately, the skill build website I use always seems to be full of bugs—the site freezes up before I can even finish allocating the points.

You shouldn’t need to, as your regen is coming from confirmed kills and exhilarating take down. if you keep getting headshots or weak spot kills, you’re good to go. You are also getting 10% of your toughness back each second, and you are getting toughness replenishment from tunnel vision.

“I dont know how to do it” =/= “it can’t be done.”

A common mistake nowadays it seems. This is why learning, playing, and mastering a variety of builds is important.

you will be forced to go for the Sharpshooter keystone (Marksman’s Focus) for tunnel vision and the 4% toughness replanishment each stack

in the new update vet needs to scramble every crumb of toughness regen he can, doesnt matter if you use a recon lasgun, a hellbore lasgun or a bolter

There are some good parts to the patch… but realizing that if the patch pushes as shown you’ll now be the class with the worst: DR, CDR, and Stamina out of ALL the classes is a bit frustrating. As for “the RANGED class”… I just don’t see vet consistently putting out more ranged damage than orgryn, hive scum, psyker, or maybe even skitauri. I’ll play and see once things go live, but a lot of faith is being placed in conditional TDR and toughness regen. Great abilities, but best be on your freaking A game and pray for no lag spikes.
