Topic says it all. I have no problem buying cosmetic items, especially if it’s to support a game I believe in. However, I’ve made two purchases that I wouldn’t have if I had known that 1) one would make my character bald and 2) my character’s head would be clipping through the item.
If you’re going to sell cosmetics, please give people the ability to see what the item would look like on their character first so they don’t end up spending their money on something they won’t be satisfied with, especially since there’s no way to get a refund.
As someone who just got screwed by the Recusant’s Cage helm even though it’s completely stood off the head and face of the digital mannequin (which I assumed meant it wouldn’t shave my head/face) and my actual character, I couldn’t agree more.
There’s an even easier solution they could implement: put a single sentence in the item’s description to indicate if it removes head/facial hair.
900 Aquila (more than my chest/pants cost me) down the drain with no recourse to get it back due to no fault of my own other than guessing wrong.
Also, special shoutout to whomever decided my post about this a few minutes ago was spam and/or put in the wrong category; this forum’s platform allows for things to be moved to a different category if it’s put in the wrong one (and maybe mine was; I’ll never know since it got flagged by a bot and yeeted into the warp by a staff member):
Just going to drop here what the new Ogryn cosmetic looks like from the back. Yep, looks good Fatshark LMAO - Imagine dropping the $12 or whatever for this because absolutely no one would buy this if they could see the back
I will say, at least with that you can sort of see what it’ll look like by spinning the digital mannequin around, but it sure would be nice to see the whole kit on our characters before we commit real money into an unrefundable monetization system.
A while ago I used my Emperor Edition Aquillas to get the coat for my female veteran. It literally changes the torso to a male one. I reported it as a bug, was told “not a bug”. A tiny female head looks ridiculous on a big male torso. This is another failing of the mannequin, and again why they won’t allow refunds.
Between not being able to preview and not designing each (non ogryn outfit) to look good on both ‘body types’, it becomes a lose lose situation for people that are paying money for this.
But how can you sell a female-only variant down the line if you don’t sell a male variant now?
I suspect the current 2400 Sisters offering for Zealot is going to catch a lot of folks off guard too (though the name and all the lore text in the description is hopefully enough to prevent most of this).
Gender-specific is another one of those things that’s more obvious just by looking at the digital mannequins, but would be a non-issue if:
We could see the cosmetics modeled by our characters, or
There was an indicator of some sort on the item page/descriptions
even just a numbered list like this one describing the head/facial hair shaving (as applicable), body type, etc. would suffice.
I find this ridiculous and it is so upsetting to see others getting done dirty over this stuff too. I stupidly spent my aquilas on the zealot excoriator hood which makes my character looks like an entirely different person when I equip it… I understand that the hood and the neck covering implies some of the hair would be covered up, but this… cmon man. That’s just stupid, and now I read that there is absolutely no chance of refunds? Great…
Perhaps the most frustrating part of this whole “guess and hope” proccess is that the helms from Penance unlocks (which very obviously come up high on the sides of the head with a large strap down the middle) just…go under my hair and let me keep looking dashing af while purging heretics (albeit a bit glitchy):
I suspect this is why so many of the helms shave our heads, though I’ll take “hair clipping through the helmet” over “the helmet hovers over my bald cranium” any day.
Still, seems like your specific instance is something that could be planned for/addressed given that we as players can’t change the characters’ heads, so how it ever clipped through an armor model is beyond me.
They really are just laughing at the playerbase at this point. So many bad clipping issues and the prices of these are basically what like 1/3 or 1/4 of the base game minimum? Pure joke. Does the art team have absolutely no shame? I mean they don’t have control over pricing but at least put the effort in and make these cosmetics work with other ones. Absolutely pathetic.
I think these issues like the overwhelming majority of the ones the game has are all a byproduct of unachievable timelines during development. I don’t know where the push came from (in-house, publisher, etc.), but there’s a lot of polish and missing feature implementation that demonstrate a clear need for additional development time.
Darktide will likely right itself and be one of the best 40K games available to date at some point in the future, but it feels more and more like it needed more time in the oven than it was given, and everyone playing in the here and now are suffering as a result.
