My brother in christ in the first week you couldn’t finish a mission without everyone crashing at least once. I’m not sure if you even played the game.
225 hours but whos counting am I right? Performance in my experience is generally smooth with only occasional rough patches even back in the beta, ive only really noticed desync problems with fast movers like hounds and mutants and while I have the occasional freeze up and laggy period its never been particularly frequent,
Disconnects are a problem, around launch especially, but before and after that period they were a lot more reasonable and not nearly as frequent as everyone crashing once per game. Still more than there should be but not as bad as it was. Ive been playing missions the whole time so yes im confident in saying even at its worst it wasnt nearly as bad as NMS and CP2077.
The game has problems but those problems are less what we got and more what we didnt, not just in content but primarily all the progression systems that lack promised depth with just barebone RNG frameworks. The core gameplay loop of purging heretics IS solid or people wouldve moved on from the game by now, and for a rushed RTX puff piece it actually runs ok, its the secondary progression loops that are what need seriously fleshing out, and the fleshed out and monetised tertiary cosmetic loop that stings.
This topic is temporarily closed for at least 4 hours due to a large number of community flags.
Out of curiosity (and im not bashing you down with this question), how many hours a week do you still play?
And you play because you really like it or because its ok and there is nothing else for you to play at the moment?
I understand there is a lot of players out there that could careless the direction FatShark is taking at the management level (the whole Tencent thing or the history with the War series as examples). People will say that they got their money worth and all that due to the time commitment… but the issue a lot of people have at hand isnt the core gameplay. its the amount of PR bullcrap that was thrown around for so long and underdelivered on a massive scales, got filled with EXPENSIVE cosmetic micro transaction in a FULL PAID game. I know some will say it exists in other games, or they are simply cosmetics but not because everyone jumps off a bridge that we all gotta follow. The VT2 way was so much better and they stepped both feet into the Mobile ways. Problem is mobile does it so much better.
Im not even sure why I stay on the forum and talk about this. Maybe its to vents my frustration about something I was so excited about as I love coop games horde style and I am sick of the ways most gaming companies treat gamers. Im 40 years old, I remember a lot of times that it didnt need to be this way
Personally I’m OK with a games compnay filling their paid for game with microtransactions so long as they meet to following criteria:
- They don’t significantly effect gameplay.
- They don’t restrict progress.
- They don’t force them on you.
As far as I see the mtx in Darktide do none of these.
I didn’t expect a story from a Tide game so I don’t miss that and crafting is neither here nor there since much of it represents getting very slightly larger numbers and little else.
Like with VT2 I am happy with the combat, hitting baddies with an axe never gets old, and the graphic and sound design.
Once I get all my toons up to level thirty will I expect more than just the same old? Probably, but if there isn’t anything forthcoming yet then I’ll play other games until there is and then give it a go again, safe in the knowledge that I already have my money’s worth IMO.
Edit:
The absolute deal breaker for me would have been if I had suffered any of the very real and in some cases game-breaking technical issues. Luckily I haven’t, but I have a great deal of sympathy for those who have.
The issue isn’t really the cash shop although it’s got deep-seated downright scummy practices involved.
It’s the fact the Cash Shop is all shiny and new and working when;
- People still crashing, and the performance is badly optimised for many many people. A product that doesn’t actually work makes people mad and rightly so when some players simply can’t even launch a mission.
-VFX changes causing people real problems and in some rare cases can cause significant health concerns. - There’s no player agency. You can’t even pick a mission or a weapon to work towards.
- Balance is up the wazzoo, especially as higher difficulties are completely pointless if you want to get… anything.
- Advertised things were completely missing from game. Classes, Weapons shown on trailers, cosmetics, weapons modifications, maps, and so on.
-Crafting incomplete when Cash Shop is working.
-Dan Abnetts erm… missing story?
People are mentioning the CORE GAMEPLAY as redeeming feature but if all of the above was fixed there’d be a similar torrent of threads bemoaning;
- The servers are laggy AF a fair bit of the time which causes ghost hits, weird reloads, weapon swapping when you don’t want and so on. Not even going to open the can of worms about dodging Muties and Dogs only to rubberband back into place and get munched.
- Contingency and Toughness are very odd mechanics really that are poorly implemented and seriously funnel players into tight builds and gameplay style to succeed at higher difficulties.
- Monsters are dull bullet sponges.
- Feats and builds are largely the same.
- Voice Actors did a great job, but the lines are repeated so often it’s wears thin very quickly.
-Enemy Callouts are either non existent or the ping-rate means everyohne is yelling SNIPER every three seconds.
-I spent 32 quid on this and like many others I’m really p*ssed about it.
I STILL don’t want the company to go under though, just REALLY pull something out of the bag. Hugely unlikely though based on past performance.
I’m still salty about Battle Wizard be broken AF for literally months.
1, They made the shop change every hour so every hour you have to walk past the cash shop four times.
3. Every hour you have to walk past the cash shop four times.
Unless you use a 3rd party app to check the store, which most people won’t know about.
There’s things I hate about the cash shop, no doubt about it; the prices are way too high, you can’t buy individual items out of sets, they don’t want to give us a full catalogue of available options, the re-textures are low effort, etc.
BUT, if we’re being optimistic (lol) it’s how they plan to fund continued live service game development. They also sold the game at a fairly low price point for the content available. Of course the cash shop is going to work.
I really don´t get this logic. You don´t have to do it, but you actually CAN do it to get way more loot than it has ever been a thing i V2 even without playing.
Even in other games you get dozens of crap you throw away, just to find that legendary drop you already have etc…
If you force yourself to check the shop every hour and every character, then it´s fully up to you and actually an advantage to find the stuff you want faster than others. Add itemshare and gg. (And checking it out on every character means actually 4x the loot if not more per hour without any efford involved compared to V2.)
And who cares moving past the cashshop?
Not many people have mentioned the pretty low quality of the premium cosmetics. Clipping all over the place, some holes, one guns model even mounts a trinket inside it’s barrel. Considering how much they cost, the premium cosmetics need higher quality standards.
I get that some of this can come from having character customization options. Different body scales and face shapes can cause problems, but yeah, they’re really not worth the prices with how janky some of them ended up.
It’s not just the paid cosmetics ive seen it with some of my pen gear too. Only penance earned stuff base game uniform and my arms clip through the sleeve’s when ive been afk and gone into the arms folded stance. In some cut scenes I look like ive got something stuck to my elbow.
Pretty funny
At least I didn’t pay extra for it though I suppose.
yeh I thought the same just needed more qc with all the different character sizes
10-25 hours over the week maybe? Less once life kicks in a bit harder, but I don’t really have a habit of obsessing over the shop so most of that is just me fitting in a few damnation runs a day.
Win or loose (and you do loose a fair bit at that level) I genuinely do enjoy the challenge of trying to overcome those odds because it makes clearing the mission that much more satisfying, to the point where I think there’s just one or two missions I have yet to clear on damnation now. On occasions where I have to wait a bit for a team to fill out you get a bit of time to just stop and actually look at some of the levels in detail as well is something I’m surprised I never did sooner.
I’m not too worried about direction because as I’ve said before, the biggest issues with the game to me isnt what they’ve made but the rest of it that they didn’t finish for launch. So long as they buckle down and grind it out the game will eventually meet its expectations and be better for it, and I really don’t see them having the leeway to make a significant change in direction until after they deliver at least that much.
Gonna play devils advocate here, what if… not much improves.
What if the RNG stays the way it is. No inventory changes, and we get the final piece of crafting in June (I wouldnt be surprised at this point). We have to assume the player base will probably end up another 1/3 of what it is currently, following other tide games and probably less considering the current state of the game.
Of course we can speculate on many things in the future. Im just curious from a point of view of someone that as a lot of hope. Dont get me wrong, im not a pessimist per say. I just see a lot of data pointing in a different direction and a history to back it up.
If nothing changes, regardless I’ll still play the game when the mood strikes me because I have enough fun that all the problems don’t stop me from playing the game. However, I likely won’t purchase a future game from fatshark, and I’d expect the servers to close after several years
I don’t hate the loot system, myself, and wouldn’t care if it stayed the same. Not being able to collect and place blessings is a major missing part, but once that’s in it will be a lot easier to build a custom arsenal.
Player count will drop regardless, as with all games.
I could work with the loot system if what we had was all of it and 380 weapons with good perks and blessings is the only equipment endgame, but what will reds be like? Will they invalidate all of the extended grind for good orange gear or will they be virtually unattainable?
DRG hasn’t really dropped, it keeps growing in fact, Payday 2 has also been quite stable since release, minus some peaks here and there.
The amount of players Darktide is dropping and at the rate they (we, honestly, I don’t play anymore) are dropping is very representative of a game being unable to keep players engaged.
Well, Tencent came in halfway through V2, their reputation was already down to drain at that point, Tencent didn’t really make anything worse, it was after Tencent that Chaos Wastes was released. Sure they brought in a cashshop because of course they did, but the game was already a mess before them.
