F-Tier Company with a one hit wonder?
There are games with issues and there are games with no issues at all, end of the story. It´s like all doomed EA and then a game like “Starwars Jedi Fallen Order” got published by them. Or “It takes Two” and other stuff fully working. It´s mostly around different circumstances why a game shows up like Anthem or CP or not…
But yeah Bethesda… Skyrim multiple times game of the year, mutiple times re-released and still the same bugs around each corner. Curious noone cares…
Also it has become waaaaaay to common that poeple SEARCH for issues. It´s not just “Hey this game has huge performance issues at nearly every PC.”, no… it´s poeple searching for everything or make issues out of stuff, just because they dislike something in the game.
Just scroll through the steamreviews, there are a bunch of player being like “I like the game, the core-gameplay is great, but i dislike this feature, so i give it a negative review to make my voice loud!”.
Then all the assumptions or even making screenshots from a month old interview or something just to call someone “lier”.
Or the overall mindset these days:
- “And i got a disconnect, but good the devs released a new skin instead of fixing their servers!”
- “Oh man, crafting is not working, but good they´ve a day one cosmetic shop!”
Even here with the interview… of course the head of FS will be like “Yeah DT sucks, it has dozens of issues, please don´t buy it.”, for real?
You guys should really check out Sean Murray who got called everything, because he told of his dreams and got pushed into a position where he never wanted to be.
Or just lately i read poeple being like “Never Asobo studios again”, because Raytracing was not functional and is still not patched, meanwhile the game is from another universe graphic-wise and overall functional.
The players pushing themselves in the frustration more and more, then they jump onto the next game and repeat it if the game has some issues to deal with. “We had this before, i know it from that game, oh this can´t go well…”.
Oil into fire… and all you do is killing your own enjoyment.
Game of the year is meaningless. It’s just a way to pretend to something happened and you can act like it’s a second launch. Now if you’ll excuse me I have to go play skyrim on my bathroom scale.
Honest question - what would we as consumers really lose if FS went under? I would assume a more competent studio would get the liscense and we would probably get an upgrade for “Darktide 2”. Probably most of the devs would get rehired.
Us as consumers would lose nothing if FS went under. Just saying.
Hard to miss when you buy a game and it does not work on release some people still cant play even now a month in and im betting everyone still gets the odd crash to desktop now and then.
Had basically this conversation 3 days ago, the TLDR of my point being that the odds of the IP not being snapped up by a company just looking to milk it or otherwise lacking the resources to even just deliver what FS does currently are not odds id bet on.
Rather than bet that in the 4-5 years minimum that it would take for the company to liquidate, get bought up, reformed and then develop a whole new game to get something that would totally have a great launch for real this time… forgive me for thinking the safer bet to get a good tide game sooner is to just let FS clean things up and build off whats already here.
As i´ve said, nothing against such obvious crashes or if pretty much everyone has performance issues. It´s about other stuff.
Time truly is a flat circle.
At the end of the day, we vote with our wallets and time.
I would have loved to see Darktide as a long term game. The setup was there.
All they had to do is let us pick our missions, with bonuses when activating certain things.
Heck, a higher chance to craft some stuff, or even finding items that gives us a higher chance up to a certain pity threshold.
But they locked everything, EVERY single thing in this game behind RNG. Heck, being able to acquire premium currency with daily / weekly missions even at a small amount would have been fantastic.
They messed up with the War series. then they had a slow but up and coming redemption ark with V1 and V2. DT release brought a MASSIVE amount of people new to Fatshark. And they blew it. People remember. No matter their next game is, it most likely wont succeed unfortunately.
Cinderella stories like No Mans Sky are extremely rare and I wouldnt expect one here due to Fatshark history. We may unfortunately be witnessing the end of the studio in itself. Doesnt matter that they have daddy Tencents behind them. I dont think they can recover.
And I really dont think the founders care. Heck. We havent heard from anyone that they care. They been drip feeding us while puffing their chest high and mighty.
I’ve been trying to go back and play V2 a bit lately… and I haven’t been able to get a game. It’s usually less then 15 games in the lobby browser, and lot of those in china. Might be a few hard core premade regular groups are running the rest of the time.
Founders of fatshark? This word gets tossed around, and I’m not 100% clear I have the context right.
The company was started up and privately owned by the initial cohort developers/leads. It was operating as an independent studio until Tencent bought a majority share in the company. It’s assumed that the founders were bought out financially, so while they still work at the company they are no longer the owners.
Well, Palmer Lucky.
Of course, if the company goes under, they can take their talent and start another and keep the money. And we can’t say they don’t have some talent. V1 was epic.
…Though I’m not sure I’d expect much from the new company if they don’t get their act together.
As much as I resonate with the frustration, I am really surprised this post has not been locked when ones with far less openly toxic remarks have been.
Sweden here but I get people for Champion / Legend the second I press the start button. Don’t have any premade group to work with, so I play with randoms via quickplay or custom for specific challenges.
I’ve been able to consistently get games going for Cataclysm; but yeah, some days it takes longer, some days I just solo it with bots because no one joins. Other days I only get one person who joins then we duo it together. Problem is no part credited to how the developers managed Vermintide 2’s game modes. The player base is segregated into different modes - Chaos Wastes, Weaves, Fortunes of War, Deeds, and maps separate from the aforementioned modes. Of course, it doesn’t help that Cataclysm is another barrier by being a paid difficulty locked behind a lousy DLC that is not recommended by the community.
The way it should work is that Quick Play will get you into any Cata based game regardless if its Weaves, Chaos Wastes, Deeds, or Fortunes of War. On top of this Cata should be available to all players. Though at this rate I doubt the developer even cares about the needs of its dedicated player base.
Ready to wait 7-8 years for a new WH40k game ?
You know what you lose, you don’t know what you will get…
What are you talking about? Space Marine 2 is coming out soon. Then there’s Rogue Trader from Owlcat which looks interesting.
This was from the round of funding at the end of 2018, early 2019. They acquired 36% shares.
Now the 2nd round of funding is the interesting one. It says it came from the founders shares directly, meaning it was bought from em. It made Tencent majority shareholders in early 2021.
Thats why I mentioned above we simply may see the end of Fatshark. Fatshark also bought another studio at the end of 2018 called “A sweet studio”, another swedish dev. It coincide weirdly with the Tencent buy in. The founder of “A sweet studio” stayed 1 year with Fatshark then went on and founded a new studio called “The Gang” in Sweden.
Oh oh and this thing from a dev blog about cosmetics. Plenty of options they said… IF YOU PAY REAL MONEY IN A GAME YOU HAVE ALREADY PAID FULL PRICE.
Whats even funnier is if you go thru twitter and start connecting the dots from the Fatshark staff, pre launch they were all hyping the game up. Then they all went silence, almost every single one of em. And you cant say its because they are busy, they definitely were busy pre launch.
Its honestly just a big farce at this point and im surprised so many are blind to it.
Respectfully, the reason games like NMS and CP2077 get brought up is because their launch states were borderline unplayable, significantly more so than Darktide that at least has the core gameplay loop and visual/audio design done decently and mainly screwed up on the peripherals. Worse still their trainwreck launches were all over the internet in a way that makes FS’s ‘biggest’ tide game still look relatively niche.
FS doesn’t have to pull off a Cinderella story because they aren’t (yet) in nearly as deep as these worst case scenarios where recovery was still possible and dont have nearly as much work to do. Frankly these Cinderella stories werent even all that magical, the studios just put their heads down and put the extra hours in to hammer out the games problems and get them to the state people expected, its not really a stretch to expect FS to do that much.
I was talking about another tide game if franchise to be taken over by another company
