The Zealot needs a flamer, and I can't play flamer — and, say, Auric doesn't look like a place to learn.
The Psyker needs a bubble, but bubble means no peril dump. So not only is it a lower-damage build, it's also more prone to self-knockouts.
The Ogryn needs a shield. That shield blocks a huge chunk of your field of view and stops you from dealing significant damage.
The Veteran — I don't even know what the meta is here, but either way I barely play Veteran.
The Arbites — no idea what the meta is here either.
The Scum — again, don't know the meta.
What does a real dream team actually look like, anyway? A Zealot with a flamer, a Psyker with a bubble, an Ogryn with a shield, and a Veteran with a plasma gun?
I play most successfully as a Zealot, with Chorus, but without a flamer. Although good luck getting into a decent lobby with a pea-shooter like a Shredder Autopistol or Heavy Laspistol. Plus, there’s a conflict between Chorus effectiveness and personal damage — a tactical axe lets you cut Chorus cooldown more effectively than a relic blade, but your personal damage is sometimes just laughable. That’s forgivable if the three other players are heavy damage-dealers. But essentially, in the ideal Havoc team as I imagine it, the only real heavy damage-dealer is maybe the Psyker, and even then, not as heavy as they could be without the bubble.
In the upcoming season, it would be really nice to crawl up to rank 30, so that the season after next I could start from rank 30 instead of 20. So I need a build that’s not a meme — something that can actually carry
Ogryn with a power maul and taunt (though charge is also very viable, just changes the way the team has to play a little)
Veteran with shout, kraks and hellbore (if they’re actually good at the game) or plasma
Hive Scum with rockets, shivs and needle pistol
Psyker with inferno staff and bubble
You could replace the Ogryn with an arbites or zealot without losing too much, and the vet should arguably run smonks instead of kraks, but that mostly depends on the individual team and playstyle, I think.
There isn’t really a hard set META as of late. Some people say there is but there are plenty of very viable team linups you can play. It’s better to think of it more as there being general roles that many classes can fill multiple of rather than there being any set roles. Yes bubble+chorus+shout+taunt is a good way to just brute force your way through havoc with literally no skill required but plenty of people enjoy playing more interesting things.
Better to think general roles like for instance you probably want someone who is a good frontliners with good crowd control and damage. For that you can run taunt ogryn, arbitrator, charge zealot, melee psyker. Etc you can apply this to basically every slot in a 4 man team with the basic ideas being something like.
Enough hoard clear
Enough specialist/shooter removal
Enough carapace removal
Enough defense/crowd control
Enough toughness generation
Enough boss damage
Every class brings varying amounts of each of these to a lineup and as long as your lineup ticks all these boxes it’s plenty viable. And if you just want to know who is the best at what and just in general who is the best: https://youtu.be/dndum4eUdc4?si=DDGc05kXoK9DTKEj
Just play whatever you are good at. My optimal havoc 40 pub loadout is playing evis 15 with charge and suplexing every boss. Twins get folded in seconds.
For Arbites, I don’t think much has changed. I prefer Shield Mk 6, but Arbites Shock Maul is still the top weapon. For grenades, still just take Shock Mines. These might be even more meta with Skitty coming. Dog is very useful, but the grenade regen is just even stronger. If you run Dog, be sure to take the dog-specific Blitz, it is very strong against bosses.
For ranged weapon, I like to run Bolt Pistol, the one with the bigger explosion. Put Bleed on direct hit blessing on it - this is how you damage bosses, fire four shots to stack up the bleed on it and then keep it topped off. If you want dedicated anti-boss, use the full Bolter.
At least, that’s how I’ve run it and had success and a lot of fun.
This is correct. The real meta is being competent enough at defensive mechanics and maneuvers that you can auto pilot them while dishing out a constant stream of damage. Where it comes from doesn’t matter, everything on screen just has to go away
Best comp for winning will always be 4 stealth zealots, can farm every map in around 6 minutes. Without stealth its 4 hive scum, will probably have around 15 min runs.
