There’s a mod called “true level” that shows you a player’s level beyond 30, so you can essentially see how much experience they have with a class. It can also show the highest level Havoc they’ve cleared. I’ve seen people with a True Level into the thousands.
From what I’ve seen, people don’t want to take someone into their Havoc 40 who hasn’t already cleared Havoc 40 lol. That said, going for slightly lower Havoc levels like high-30s will let you onto some teams. For any lower-level Havoc, having cleared that level or something near it is a good sign.
Also, picking a class that is not present on a team already is a good method of getting picked. Some classes are also more popular than others; Zealot (for Chorus support), Ogryn, and Psyker (for bubble). Psyker is probably the #1 desired member for a comp, but they’re also so squishy that a good Psyker is hard to come by, and not everyone enjoys the playstyle (I don’t).
There are a lot of Arbites floating around, so while they’re good in Havoc*, it’s common for a lot of them to be competing for space in teams. Veteran has nice utility and support but is generally just too squishy for Havoc, and can only somewhat carry himself by Plasma Gun spam, which also means he eats all the ammo.
*Can be hit or miss, though, I find that there are a lot of lower-skill players who just play Arbites to crutch on its strength and end up going down a lot in games and/or doing pitiful damage when it’s the most damaging class in the game. My point is not whether this is right or fair, but that people putting together teams are going to see an Arbites and consider if they will be a help or a hindrance.
Those are just my observations; I rarely run my own games and just try to join others. I have a lot of success getting on teams if I’m on my Zealot, reasonably on my Ogryn, can sometimes find a team as Arbites, and it’s kind of difficult as Vet.
And my characters are all pretty high level, besides my Arbites, which is “only” mid level.
The part of not taking people into Havoc 40, which haven’t cleared NEW LV40 is quite frankly idiotic.
How are you supposed to do it, if you got no chance to do it in the first place?
From my experience it doesn’t matter if I go Zealot, Arbites, Veteran or Ogryn.
Psyker isn’t really my thing, especially not in Havoc.
It’s really unclear what people truely look at/for,
since my Frame, Insignia, Title & Level show that I’m a long time player & can handle myself.
guess most peeps look for cookie cutter build meta, true survivor title the portrait with the million kills and either the 3 golden twin balls or the beat havoc 40 somewhere in time insignia.
usually come a new “season” i throw my ogryn at a number of 40 games until one sticks, get my “herrenrasse” ear-stamp and call it a day until next season, rince and repeat
General tip: If you want to grind to lvl 40, do it with your missions. You usually only get accepted on missions lower than your highest clear. Everything else is already covered by the above replies.
What I do look for? Anything not arbites, especially if clearance level is low. On arbites I always substract 10 levels of the clearance level to gauge their skill. So level 15 vet > level 24 arbites. So If I would host a level 20 quest I would take the vet and not the arbite, 5 levels too low is roughly the max I take.
I dunno, then, maybe a lot of people have some kinda hateful grudge against your characters?
Yeah it’s like the “3 years experience needed” for entry-level positions. But people are desperate for the W and it’s the only metric for measuring skill.
The first one is a big one. It’s quite surprising the amount of invites I get from fresh lvl 30s and havoc level 20 players trying to join my lobby. At havoc 35+, having to babysit someone who folds at the sight of 10 poxwalkers makes for a miserable time for the rest involved. This could also be the case if your clearance is 40; then people can assume that you know what you’re doing and would be willing to take you in. It’s also that people value their time, and they don’t want to take a chance on a Havoc lvl 35 player where it would be better to take the 40 guy(I’m not saying this is correct behavior, but it is what it is). Also people vary, I give leeway to folks about four havoc levels below me to enter my lobbies, where as others kind of want people to be on the same level.
Second is builds as some mods allow players to see your load out and if you’re using FotF, Exe Stance, Infiltrate, PB, Shroud, venting shreik, Scyer’s Gaze then you will be denied as the emperor’s fading light is brutal, having gold toughness helps or bubble for pushes. I’ve seen Arbitrators get denied as they don’t provide Gold toughness that a team wants.
Flashing your portraits and titles could also help get you into havoc lobbies as it ‘can’ indicate that you at least have some knowledge(Granted this isn’t always the case as some titles are easily cheesed)
Last being true-level, as being under 100 will likely get you denied.
In conclusion, it’s better to host your own havoc games as you can dicate what you want in a squad.
I usually always got accepted into 40 lobbies and wore default portrait with no title. Of course my lowest true level is 600 and highest is 1000 so that could help. Only time I got denied was when people really wanted the 4th to have Perilous Combustion Purg. I also imagine there are a few people who are tired of playing with Arbites and deny them instantly. Job application board was a mistake.
Wrong class. I mean you see that team got vet, ogryn, arbites, it is possible that they will take one more of these, but it is unlikely, they probably looking for psyker or zealot. I switched classes and if group was still up, applyed again and was accepted.
Bad build, i have mod to check builds, i know from chat comments and assume from delay time, that i am also being checked by such, i don’t want to play with veterans who use middle aura, they maybe good, but very unlikely. There’s only one weak justification to take middle aura and not once have i met it.
True level with havoc highest clear lvl, which drops after new havoc rolls out so you know that it’s still actual.
Titles: Poxbreaker, havoc forged, budding interrogator, true survivor, A.S.S if he got true havoc lvl needed.
You could have taken the Focus Target! keystone, but didn’t (I’d remove Superiority Complex and take it). Everything else is OK, but even FT wants its left-most upgrade, since it’s good stamina and toughness “economy” boost; the middle upgrade is also OK.
On the topic - mostly just looking for somewhat balanced team comps (“meta” preferably, but I’m open to ideas on classes that can afford going anything but “meta”). I’m not yet at a stage where I can assume “anything goes” and typically try to seek out people taking thought-out builds that aren’t an assembly of random skill nodes and/or flawed weapons (wrong dump stats, not Lv4 perks/blessings, etc.). I do not consider levels/other cosmetic items at all if somebody is bringing in a sound build that can do a variety of things for the team, say:
space making with abilities or resources,
boss killing (either proper monsters or Captains/Twins - many things can do either of these effectively),
pushing safety (Psyker Bubble or Chorus, or VoC),
density clear (flamers, Voidblast staff, Rumbler),
Its probably the true level mod for pc. I got in a havoc 40 when I was havoc 31 purely coz the host saw my true level. I’m on xbox so i didnt know what it was but he said its 756 and he only took me because of that (we won the havoc 40 also)
I would take such build. but for perfect optimization, you can just take out for blood instead of confirmed kill and close order drill thus saving one point, also remove toughness boost node in order to take:
Field imporvisation + focus target keystone.
Focus target + focus fire for even more single target damage.
Focus target with one of the other sub-nodes, but honestly i think sub-node that gives damage is bad without also taking focus fire sub node, so only toughness one is viable.
I mean, it’s fair, I was speculating on what the thought process of the “host” of the lobby that’s declined you. Thing with FT! is - it’s just a decent damage boost against monsters/things you want to kill on priority, and left upgrade also gives you/allies in your coherency free stamina and toughness.
You don’t have to take the keystone, but it’s an “L” for the team that likely wouldn’t hurt your performance much but give other people in your team a chance to kill something a couple of seconds quicker - this might be somewhat relevant for situations where your team doesn’t have other “generic damage amplifier skills” like Ogryn’s Soften’em Up or its equivalent on Arbites.
I’d evaluate whether Superiority Complex does anything meaningful for your build, especially since you brought up boss damage as the most prominent metric, but advice provided by @Downer is also sound in my book.
in my book being able to tank damage allowes me to make those big plays that let me carry my team every single time, all the time a ‘‘normal’’ veteran invest into avoiding danger is making all his damage perks worthless
better to do non optimal damage 99% of the time or doing 10-20% more damage 50% of the time
and of course if anything happens he dies to stupid shet anyways, there is no such thing as avoiding damage, even dot nl get deleted to stupid shet sometimes
this is why voice of command is such a superior class ability compared to the others, you don’t get the 50% damage buff of exe stance but since you are alive and doing damage all the time you wind up doing more damage in the end
i can’t get gaslit to think otherwise at this point, i’ve got my own field experience to prove it for me
so yeah, the 5% health perks on my curios stays
although i recognize this is a good point, not picking focus target have an effect on your team mates morale
imagine how poor the knowledge state is about this game that the best player in the game gets rejected for not picking a trash keystone like the ones veteran have
Tbh, all you can really do is list the havoc or find someone who has a less obnoxious combination. I’m sure some people will come along. I will say anecdotally, in my entirety of Havoc, I’ve only been denied from two Havoc games, and I also have a good friend whom I play with from time to time, so that helps. I even get accepted into lobbies, even though I run combat shotgun and tac-axe. Sometimes you just gotta send it. I wish you luck in your future Havoc endeavors, friendo!
Answering your thread I normally follow a guide/protocol (Havoc 40)
1- No more than 1 vet/psyker
If I already have a Vet, I’m not accepting another one, regardless of build. Same with Psyker
2 - Builds
I’ll prioritize players with good builds (I can see their loadout in the party finder with a mod). If your build covers something that my comp is currently lacking, you have higher chances of getting in, even if it’s unconventional (as long as it’s not built badly)
3 - Arbites get mostly rejected
I can assume this is a personal bias, but every time I see an Arbites build, 9/10 times they’re missing so many good things that I know they’ll basically be dead weight to my team. Arbites players mostly don’t know how to develop in Havoc and they only got here through crutching on the class
