Only been playing Huntsman since beta. He wrecks certain bosses, but in good conditions. Strength pot Is needed and you need some good distance and hopefully there isn’t a horde there cause you’ll be wrecked when you catch aggro.
The dude is paper mache and honestly, I read some posts saying he has a low skip cap, which I find funny. You slip up once and most of your HP is gone, or with bad aim, you aren’t doing anything.
Saying he has a halberd isn’t the end be all.
I feel like when shade gets nerfed, people come flocking to poor hobo, now shes fixed again, and people still want to take a dump on him cause she isn’t the only boss killer around.
FK is pretty uninspiring, and is a pretty poor tank compared to for instance Zealot. He also doesn’t gain DPS from his talents except for temporary gain if you spec into the 25.
Merc is a pure melee DPS that again has no dodge and no damage resistance. I dunno but I’ve never seen anyone use Merc nearly as effectively as Zealot, and certainly not as good as ranged.
His ult is also very lackluster, even if it didn’t have a 3 minute cooldown.
Merc’s fine with Hal and Exe. With Exe I have to dodge side to side as him, but with Hal you can just spam damage most of the time and dodge back/push if density gets too high. He’s one of those classes where going offensive is better than defensive. I don’t really block unless I’m completely surrounded or there’s big hits coming in as him. You can easily top damage and elite kills if you keep pushing for melee constantly.
Just tried Merc with 1h Sword/Repeater and he’s great. 1-2 Cancel or push-slash 3 combo works really well. Charged attacks can work too. It’s lacking a bit of stagger, but the cleave and mobility make up for it. Using repeater to take out Elites and Specials ASAP. Will test other stuff a bit later. Build was attack speed 20% chaos and 10% crit. Your only real counter is CWs.
Haven’t tested Foot Knight yet, but all of the ones I’ve seen seem to do a decent job at bunkering or using melee effectively. The charge is great too.
Yeah I wasn’t saying Merc isnt viable, but he seems pretty lacking compared to other, better alternatives in my opinion.
If you’re a good player, you can top scoreboards with nearly every character, that doesn’t make them all equally good however.
Depends on the team comp as well, of course.
I tend to dance rings around halberd-wielding Krubers with my WS, getting far more melee kills since I can move much better and faster. And for elites and specials, well yeah if they ever get to melee, Merc kills them faster, but that’s a big but.
I personally would just say reduce the damage buff huntsman gets under ult. One problem is though, since ranged weapons already one-shot most enemies, the actual utility is somewhat marginal, it’s pretty much only useful against chaos warriors and bosses, so if it stops being useful against them, it’s just a way to not lose ammo for a bit.
Preferable would be a rework though, atm it’s a damage boost for a short time. Imo, it should be more like an actual ambush. Allow the player to remain in stealth for a bit to setup, rather than having every second in stealth be a second of DPS lost. Basically like shades ult, but instead of a single melee hit, you get a short duration damage/reload buff.
It also buffs melee. Not that much, but still helps, especially stagger and cleave (I think they get buffed too, not sure though). And it works as a panic button lifesaver sometimes. So it’s not that one-sided.
Uhm I think that, after what we have seen about Shade, to nerf things isn’t our priority… anyway, in comparison with BH and Pyro, he has less versatility so he should do more damage. IMHO he should stay between 1.0.7 and 1.0.8 (PLEASE FATSHARK, we don’t want another Shade).
it can’t be justified. it’s why shade lost the ability to do so, per fatshark’s own explanation. the difference is, nobody talks about huntsman. the same thing happened during the beta phases with the coach gun. he was obliterating bosses in every single match of every beta phase (other than the NDA tests where subclasses weren’t available) but nothing happened until someone made a video that went viral.
make a few compilations, add some memes, some random colors and screen shakes and throw in some funky music and it’ll get changed. that’s how it all works unfortunately.
A boss should always be some kind of a challenge!!! No downside of a career should be a reason to break the game. Just had a 10 second lord fight and it was so unsatisfying…
Maybe it was supremely satisfying for the HS to delete the lord in 10 seconds. Just like its probably satisfying for a Sienna to delete a horde while melee gets the scraps.
And so on, and so on.
“unsatisfying” has got to be the worst balance excuse. It basically boils down to “OMG other players are having fun/getting green circles, nerf pls.”
I think we’re discussing how to reign in the actual thing the huntsman is “supposed” to do; Precision kill high-value targets.
I am against all characters being able to do everything, ( I think this is why the big hoo-haa about ranged meta) and the Huntsman is possibly the one class that very nearly does what it says on the tin - hunts down key targets.
Has anyone mentioned the weapon swapping for longbow yet? Cos getting that right is a skill in itself. If someone is peppering a boss with headshots while defending themselves against random wallops from hordes or patrols etc, then that player deserves to melt the boss as they playing the class pretty damn well.
Of course if a slave rat spawns in your pocket and decides to shove a dagger up your marmite fritter, there’s not a lot you can do about it no matter what the class - but Huntsman takes 40% damage in one hit in some cases just trying to put the longbow away,
It’s more about challenge, balance and fairness. If one person can solo half of the map from 40 yards away and kill bosses in around 5-10 seconds, how is that fun for anyone else? You can make builds that are as versatile as possible, but nothing beats Huntsman so far. Hordes, Elites, Specials and even Bosses die too fast and too easily to him.
As Kerillian, which is considered quite strong, and I agree. You still have to land headshots on most of those to kill them in one hit or to do significant damage. As Huntsman you can stack so much Crit that headshots aren’t really necessary. Body shots with crits after a single headshot, will allow you to clear out an entire area before anyone else has moved in.
