Consider this to be another attempt at petitioning Darktide devs into creating ANY Tanith themed cosmetics. A year and a half into the games lifecycle, and still nothing. I can understand if it’s difficult to address how to style the Zealot, Psyker and Ogryn into the light infantry unit’s accepted appearance, but currently there isn’t even one reference to the most famous work of your primary lore writer, Dan Abbnet, who’s advertisement solidified my interest in this game. Not even a Tanith regimental crest on a trinket… What gives?
There are a couple cosmetics with internal IDs referencing Tanith, but otherwise not a lot IIRC. Maybe they’ve sold those sets before, but I don’t know, because I don’t keep track of the MTX store, and they never give us the full selection anyways.
I agree. We want Tanith!
Did you want them based on the models or is there a specific piece of artwork you would like to see instead?
I at the very least would like to see the Camo Cloaks and a skin for the knife. I am worried that their fear of cloth physics makes them less inclined to add something like this. (While we have the Psyker cloak, there is not much else. Krieg greatcoat is pinned up, and there are no Preacher robes like the additional model has, but maybe those are different because they are around the legs?)
I’m open to the full regimental treatment, such as had been done for Cadia, Krieg, Elysia and Armageddon. And using the current run of models would make the most sense, but I’d be plenty happy with just the camo cloaks, “Straight Silver” knife skin, and all manner of Nalwood stocked weapons. Maybe even some camo wrapped rifles… A Trinket, an insignia…
Heck if you felt adventurous a power sword skin of The Sword of Heironymo Sondar. But that would be least necessary.
When sister Sept was a CM they said There would be no Tanith Skins. But at the same time in the for the drip mod theres code for Tanith Colors.
I can’t seem to find that. Was that in the subreddit or the forum ?
I o ly have the thing I linked prior.
The models are fine, though I’ve always pictured some of the older cover art – simply because those were the omnibus editions I bought back in the day. The cloaks were more tattered and the character design more rough-hewn and dirty in general.
In fairness, there are literally Billions of Guard regiments, and the Tanith First and Only is well…the only one. That nobody on Atoma’s ever heard of them wouldn’t surprise me in the least.
Above and beyond that however, GW itself has never really given them much support or featured them heavily. Over a quarter century they’ve made a Gaunt mini, a squad of metal infantry looooong since OOP, and a plastic update of Gaunt with a much smaller squad of Tanith troopers, with extremely minimal rules support.
Knowing GW, I can also totally imagine the person who approves stuff for this game going “Tanith? Nah, that regiment stopped existing hundreds of years before this game takes place and was active on the other side of the galaxy, their kit would never have made it to the Moebian Domain. Denied.”
Cameoline cloaks and flak armour aren’t purely Tanith, but they do contribute to the aesthetic a lot.
Nalwood stocked and inlaid weapons? That’s uniquely Tanith and understandable if it never appears on Atoma.
It was on the discord, ages ago. i specifically asked about it.
But kreiger ogryns?
Ogryn Auxillia do get attached to Krieg regiments.
I honestly think it has less to do with IF the gear would ever find it’s way to this part of the galaxy. It’s a game. The fact that this Inquisitorial battle group has access to full kit from Death Korps, Steel Legion and Drop Troopers when no characters are actually from those planets indicates that the designers don’t actually care what would be feasibly available in the logistics of the universe, but rather what players want to see on their character. So with Dan Abbnet, the writer for both the Gaunt’s Ghosts books and the game’s lore, why wouldn’t we get any Tanith themed equipment? It makes no sense to deny what, I’d guess is half the player base, would like to see in the game.
The item descriptions from the cosmetics sets tend to explain how the characters originally wearing them came into Grendyl’s employ, including the Kriegsmen. They’ve since then died, and Hallowette has recovered their clothes from the battlefield and sold them back to us. For apparel that wouldn’t fly because those units wouldn’t join an Inquisitorial warband, like Cadian Kasrkin soldiers, they even bother to make up a dude that is merely pretending to be a Kasrkin and has looted the gear from elsewhere.
It’s a paper thin contrievance but I suspect it’s necessary for GW approval, and it doesn’t work for the Tanith since they’re all dead and have been for centuries.
Even the Elysian descriptions talk about a regiment of them that were deployed alongside the Moebians somewhere and that’s how their gear ended up on Atoma.
Okay, I’ll give you that. But it can still be worked around quite easily. Just take my Veteran: Mkoshan. I’ve of course styled him as close to Tanith as possible, even trying to create a unique name reminiscent of prominent Ghosts ie: Mkoll and Mkvenner. I picked some agriworld in the Mobian sector, don’t even remember which planet. But my head cannon for my character being immigrants from Tanith. Maybe his family was off world when it was destroyed. Or descendants of a Ghost after the Sabbot Crusade was finished. The armor could even be considered relic due to its age. Heck for all we know the regiment could’ve been kept alive as morale boost and propaganda, constantly being reinforced by any other under strength regiments. So maybe no real Tanith still wear the uniform but only kept alive by those that still serve in the First and Only. Tanith may yet still live, even if only in name.
well are they dead for centuries? idk if that’s been added in lore as a historical fact, but with their current standing maybe there wouldn’t actually be any tanith left in the tanith first, but possibly decedents of survivors, continued inductees from Vergast and Belladon. after all it is the Lord Executor’s Personal Retinue.
If they wanted the lore could be bent easily.
How about another unit (maybe pdf) that served alongside the Tanith and was so impressed that they copied their style? (Happens often enough in real life) And somehow this regiments attire found it‘s way into moebian domain…
