Hilarious to see veteran going from elf class to worst one

Yeah I wonder if they could streamline his tree with a 3 set up node passive for toughness at the start like we expect. Have one that gains toughness on enemy range kill, one for suppression and one for reload, so you could take a couple taxes for great regen and be done with it, but have more regular and less build dependent sources.

Like lasguns would benefit kills, since they already benefit ammo. While high power ammo limited weapons would get a lot of pinch toughness dumping into crowds. Idk, something better than the current set up. Maybe that’s why they just out and coped and put 100% toughness on his other 2 ults, they realized the massive sustain issues vet suddenly faces which is a unique inversion of the previous game balance where he could print toughness like he was in coherency with the entire guard.

I don’t know if this needs to be said but the power sword is absolutely terrible now. Devil’s claws are better. I know this is about vet as a whole. I know they didnt get buffed up as much as some of the other classes, and is probably the weakest class right now, but i find it still extremely competitive. I’m running the vraks mkIII with headhunter and all of the rending talents and I still erase things. The power sword though… its real bad.

Problem is

  1. Vet’s skill tree layout is trash and it has a lot of just horrible options, like his auras other than survivalist
  2. Other classes are just blatantly stronger like psyker, making you question why you would play Vet when psykers just delete everything on screen without even much skill involved

Overall Vet isnt bad, just outclassed by the other classes. Vet is still good, just feels lackluster

I’m wondering about the veterans who are “I’m fine.” What difficulty are you playing on?

After doing a search on the topic, I did not see the word “Damnation”.

On difficulty 1-4 you will be good and will crush enemies in any build.

But in Damnation+ everything is completely different and veterans almost always lag behind the team

I play damnation and not auric… reason is ammos.
I hate using always same weapon, and there are too many weapons that have a too low ammo reserve and so that cannot be used in auric levels.
When they will bring back old ammos reserve and increased a little ammos reserve of people that need it (Infantry lasgun MG Ia, Shredder autopistol, revolver, shotguns, infantry autoguns), I would play Auric.

I’ve been coming across very few Guardsmen when I’ve played, predominantly Psykers and Zealots with an occasional Ogryn or two. Switching across each class its the same story, even when out and about on my own Guardsman. I love my Guardsman, I always will as the IG is my 40k jam, but I am feeling more drawn to the Zealot and Ogryn and will take out the Psyker for a run more readily than my Veteran because, well, they’re more fun now. Going for a CC/melee Guardsman can be fun with the stealth whatsit, but even then that’s just playing a weaker Zealot where I can rock up with Choir and benefit the team whilst also being a killing machine.

Plasmagun is pretty much gutted even more, you have to hit a bunch of keystone nodes just to bring it back to pre #13 levels, sacrificing a ton of survivability and utility that you would have had with the old vet.

You should be able to melee with any class. Especially ranged ones. You’re just mad, that your crutch got nerfed lol

Vet in Auric Damnation with revolver + chainsword, seems fine to me, melee horde, click special heads, shoot some other stuff to waste ammo and still don’t run out.

30 specialist for all game?? hmm…

It can be done with scaling, not strict 15% toughness for pushing reloading button. Similar to Blaze away, more ammo you spend in % wise more toughess you will get on reloading. It can be 2,5% per 10%, so you will restore 25% on reloading at max. Will work better for agressive close combat weapons like shotguns, revolers or autoguns.

For bolter and plasma it should be Confirmed kill. Maybe for bolter something like Pinning fire, but some ammount of +toughness on stagger. Will work for shotguns too and maybe with nades.

For plasma it realy should be elite killing.

For Lasguns and any kind of headshot-oriented guns - Exhilarating Takedown, but for weakspot shot, not kill with numbers adjustements. Since someone can lasthit your frag and ruin your toughness farm when it’s on kill.

Curios

This one is more dps, but less defense, same weapons and curios

Ill be honest the only thing thats really catching me out with the new class rework is not having the ability for Executioners Stance (Volley Fire) to reload my lasgun on activation like it used to.

Nothing quite like getting jumped by a bunch of elites and specialists, popping it off, and then wasting 2-3 seconds of uptime shoving a fresh mag in because youd burned through most of it clearing shooters from the galleries.

i have no idea i made my first vet build of 13 it can kill a reaper on damnation with one trigger pull, does over 4k dps melts everything

i really am not seeing the problem… they got a lot less toys, they are the least changed but the others were just bought up to them , i know there are a couple of clearly broken things atm /wave yondu and palpatine.

but i dont even understand the vet complaint what is it you feel is the problem? as in actual details

My personal complaints are that the plasma gun is even worse now, ammo efficiency is worse overall and a bunch of class features are removed with no replacement, or too expensive in terms of talent points to get even one aspect of the archetype back to what it was pre-13.

It’s not just about the DPS, it’s about playing with your favourite weapons and how it feels like it’s more work with less reward compared to other classes.

The chainsword feels usable now, which is nice, but then they nerfed power sword yet again.

Every other class is stronger both in defence and offence. Have you tried gunlugger for example? It’s a better vet.

Psyker is OP or near being OP with anything probably - surge, voidstrike, shards, endless smite without peril. Dome is trivializing shooters encounter.

I can get 400-500k dmg with mg12+chainsword (depends on party), so it’s just like pre patch almsot ~400-450k was for me. Psyker can get now 700k damage, it is 100k more than bolter vet in last patch (and he was OP - easy push through run with 600k dmg)

Is vet playbale and somewhat good? Yes, but only with some weapons. Bolter vet is on playble-mediocre lvl now, atleast i failed to make some strong build witth it, main problem - it’s either lackin ammo, or swap speed or damage or defense. Plasma - still sucks, even less ammo, slow, overheating to fast. Shotguns are ok, but every other class will destroy enemies while you are reloading.

i did actually it was my second priority , found it to be extremely underwhelming gone back just now to try it out a few more times, it feels bad to me , an adhesive rumbler was quite funny but trying it with ripper or stubba… welll its fun but im not seeing the big “its so powerful” from it .

it certainly doesnt come within a mile of the useful ranged of say the vet i tried , these are not my playstyles though i might be doing gunlugger wrong but as it stands i can only see someone judging it through a damage meter thinking its particulaly good

i think its fair to say the whole yondu thing is clearly original power swords level of silly broken not just op but broken. and i dont think the permanent force lightning is intended that is a bug i suspect the keystone allowing it makes no metion of removing the peril cost.
dome is good but smoke grenades are better in every way. they will shoot a dome down , smoke grenades stop tehm shooting and make them walk into to get minced , both might need a nerf in truth.

not going to litigate how bad a tool the damage meter is ive been down that road too many times already :wink:

i think you are jumping the gun here , for the first six months the entire community was united in calling the shredder auto pistol trash tier. its going to take a while to find the right builds. i have defintely seen infinte ammo shredding recon las builds, the vraks build i put together kicks some majour bunty. and i found the plasma to be very good

were at the start of the discovery phase not the end here. and there will be balance changes adjustments

No i’m not, it’s just there is nothing in skill tree to synergize bolter with, either things are too deep into skill tree or even all over the branches and hard to get. No things like weapon swap speed for example and only one +ammo talent (imo every node should give +1% to ammo cap, so it will be +30% in the end). Auras are also trash you don’t want to pick something but Survivalist. Meanwhile with rest of the classes you just open skill tree and grab what you want and you will find there few points left even.

For nades it’s either 60s ability or 5% chance to replenish on elite/special kill. Dome is spamable, nades are spamable only at some degree. Dome also replenish toughness for the whole team. Smoke nades got negative side they block vision for your team too, you can tag gunners through the cloud, but can’t tag regular shooters. Psyker overall has enough power output to take defensive ability. Taking smoke nades instead of frag/krak is questionable.

Not even saying by taking smoke nades you make your way to the best vet branches by 1 node longer which is crucial for him.

There will be, doesn’t mean there should be no discussions and complaints. Vet isn’t broken trash, but very restricted in builds right now.

idk what you’re looking for other than excuses at this point. Yes it was auric damnation, scoreboard doesnt track boss kills.

I havent yet played with my helbore build because I find this one too much fun and its good.

Forgot to reply to this before. The idea I had in my head was a regen over time on reload - lower ammo granting a stronger benefit.

Wouldn’t work all that well for the Plasma Gun (and shotguns/revolvers would be a bit awkward), but not every talent has to be viable for every loadout.

I think an On Assist/Kill condition would help a lot of these issues; may require tweaking the numbers (since all 4 players could potentially proc an effect from a single enemy instead of just 1 player), but it’d help to keep things cooperative instead of competitive.
