Higher difficulty options request

I know this is only a problem for <0.5% of the playerbase, but having more challenging difficulty options would make the game a lot more enjoyable for experienced players.

Any higher difficulties should NOT have additional rewards or penances. Just like in Cataclysm in Vermintide. It should just be there for players that want the challenge and don’t care about farming materials/gold/achievements.

I’d like to be able to play as a 4 man again and feel some sort of challenge… Right now we need to split our groups into 2-3 man for auric maelstrom’s to feel any sort of pressure. Especially with the upcoming balance changes this is only going to get worse.

It just feels pretty bad to join my 2-3 man friend groups of experienced players and have the game become kinda boring for everyone.

In vermintide we could at least crank up the twitch mode setting or go to modded realm for more difficulty options, but that’s not an option in DT with fatshark hosted servers.

Again this should be something that people would play purely for challenge NOT REWARDS to avoid people getting upset that they cannot do the hardest content anymore and not get the best rewards anymore.

I can understand you, really, but creating and balancing a new difficulty takes a lot of time and resources… and there are so many others priority!

(and that’s without considering the risk of making something of just “artificial”, specially if they’re going to change enemies’ hp and damage)

A good compromise, and I’d be totally agree, is to add new and harder modifiers on Maelstrom… and increase the Maelstrom’s maps pool (why there is one only map at time!?)

I don’t get the buff everything stance.
I believe that the difficulty has been reduced by a lot. But, I see people that want less difficulty and want also to be able to play in auric, but without the true difficulty.
Something is wrong here.

There is also heresy auric, if they want to have the taste of Auric without the entire difficulty.

I will be honest. I feel unnecessary, right now, to introduce a 8th difficulty level (5 regular difficulty level, 2 in auric).
I feel necessary to nerf what is too strong. Cause we can’t create a difficulty level each time we met this situation… especially cause several don’t want to see nerfs.
So, we create a 8th difficulty level, and it will be difficult for how much time? until the next buff? so what… 3 to 6 month. And then we create a 9th for a 5k population???

PS: I can play auric. I play sometimes maelstrom auric. I prefer regular damnation cause I like to loot. So, I can handle auric (especially if I take an OP weapon, here really not a problem). So when I say that something is wrong by wanting to go auric and asking no more nerf, I say it as someone that has chosen to play regular damnation more than auric.

I mean it can be as simple as just doubling the health and stagger resistance of everything and it’d be more entertaining than current difficulties.

But yeah increasing enemy speed and agressiveness would probably be more interesting. We usually finish every game with everyone taking less than 100 dmg and a good portion of my games I finish with 0 dmg taken… (VOC does most of the work there but still).

I’d love to just be able to host a server and let modders do the work just like in V2. Wouldn’t even mind 0 rewards since all of us have godrolls of every single weapon already.

This is a fair demand when Fatshark has restricted games to their servers.
There’s a solo mod, but I have not seen any mod that introduce a peer-to-peer server to play solo games (and modified difficulty, this one exists).

Not sure if we need a new difficulty or just need to rework Auric Maelstrom (or all of auric) to be harder.

But I think the problem is penances and rewards, like you said, being there. I think them having rewards is fine, as long as it’s the EXACT same as the others. Like cata in VT2 as you said.

But there’s already lots of people PUBing Auric Maelstrom looking to complete those penances.

Just play with shitty gear and/or players for more challenge I guess. Play a body guard mission to safe guard the noobs!

They should put same rewards in all difficulties (or reduces by a lot the gap that exists, especially between heresy and damnation). Like that people would choose the difficulty that suit their skill or their pleasure.
And the titles linked to Auric was the biggest error they did… (I have not tried to chase them… like all penances cause I don’t care of penance and even more about titles).

Yeah i also agree that after the upcoming patch we really need to start looking towards new diff or something.
Like there is no way after so much powercreep that is coming with the next patch that we will somehow get 20+ nerfs after that.

If they keep this patch as is… yes, they will destroy all balance in the game and all difficulty.
I will begin to play only maelstrom to get a feeling of a difficulty…

Cataclysm has its own achievements.

Can you do Auric Maelstrom with your non-favourite weapons?
Can you do it on all 4 of the characters?
Can you do it on all 4 of your characters with non “meta” weapons?

Feel as though there’s still some unexplored depth there.

I think it’s a lot easier to tone things downs vs adding a new diff, even if it means some mild balancing nerfs to do it. There are already quite a few diffs, especially when you consider aurics vs vanilla.

The toughest part is the mentality shift in the community; some people would have to accept that simply hitting level 30 with whatever random loadout doesn’t mean they’re entitled to a free win in the hardest content, and the decent players would have to enforce the social contract.

So I didn’t want to get into specifics because it will come off as boasting or elitist or whatever, but I’ve lost track of the amount of times that we’ve completed duo auric mael with non meta builds, with letting bots die at the beginning and no reviving. Letalone in a team of 4.

The difficulty in this game is an absolute joke compared to modded vermintide.

And I’m pretty sure that even if every single groaner/poxwalker got replaced by maulers, every mauler/rager by crushers, every shooter by gunners, and every crusher by bosses, we would still roll the mission in a group of 4.

Fair enough. Those that can do it with all 4 characters are not common.
I mean, I’m not saying that there shouldn’t be harder stuff to do for those that want it. I think most would agree that levels 1 and 2 are pointless, so you could definitely drop those to make space for something nuts at the top end.

I want some of the VT2 deeds added as PLAYED CONTROLLED difficulty modifiers starting with:

  • Send Another Wave!
  • Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger
  • The Vanguard
  • Nurgle’s Rot
  • Deprivation - modified so it lowers the chance for loot from loot crates and randomly vandalises med stations so they are not accessible.
  • Chaos/Nurgle Elite - a new “deed” which replaces majority of newly infected and pox walkers with higher quality melee unites, and always spawns ambushes and hordes mixed with melee and ranged elites.

Still waiting for darktide version of tzeentch twins. Oh ya and for those of you who don’t know its basically this “Strong enemies split into two weaker enemies on death.”

karnak twins in secret hard mode difficulty it is a nice challenge, however i’d like something new that is more skill based in term of soloing

fortunes of war cataclysm was nice
waves as well in VT2 was the best highest difficulty ever in official realm, even though people may not like them, they were actually fun because challenging, people just “hated” them because there were not enough people, i completed them all ranked 160 waves and was cool

alternatively some sort of twitch mode like in vt2 but in darktide with options just like in vt2 where you can scale it 200% with downsides only or just the normal version etc

There’s a difficulty that is missing between malice and heresy.

But sure, sedition and uprising are redundant. It should be just one difficulty.

I really wait if they will do something about difficulty. Cause, the patch notes made me anxious about the difficulty after patch.
There is, simply, really too many buffs and too many that point things already strong or OP. And a lot of weak weapons are not buffed or fixed.

We wouldn’t need yet another difficulty if Fatshark stopped power creeping the everliving hell out of the players.
A sixth tier of difficulty would be a band aid that would be better than nothing, but what really needs to happen is for the outliers in the weapons and class trees to get scaled back.
The game’s highest difficulty shouldn’t be so easy it can be completed by just two players, or even a single one.
