And I don’t know why you’re being purposely obtuse about this. Yes, anyone can say they feel any type of way about anything, obviously. We all know this argument for the most readily accessible intellectual gruel that it is. The world is not a completely relativistic place.

Swathes of the FS consumer base are frustrated with the state of development for the obvious reason that there are reasons to be frustrated with the state of development.

People are generally happy with the state and development pace of Helldivers 2 for the very simple reason that there are reasons to be happy with the state and development pace.

If you have some argument you want to make, please make it in clear terms with at least some empirical facts to back it up instead of throwing out vague, open-ended questions that have no real answers as as way to be contrarian.

They release too early and did not communicated that properly. People got upset.
The first thing that was added was the Microtransaction shop, setting the president what this game as a platform really is. People got upset.
There were litteral “coming Soon” signs for weeks for content in the game which is the equivalent of “under construction”. People got upset.
When the things were finally added they felt like an cobbled up afterthought and not thought through. People got upset.

So now imagine all these upset people, who are often diehard WH40k fans and wanted a good and finished game with little flaws whatsoever, had to say to the develops and how the developers liked that?

To answer my rhetorical question, the fans shat all over them and the devs went silent only for some titbits here and there and their dev diaries.

It’s simple causality and the result is the fans are still upset and the devs wont communicate anymore because someone higher up decided to release an unfinished product.

That’s why nobody is engaging with us here from FS or talking about feature suggestions. Because they created a cesspool and wont wade in it.

What’s funny is, this forum stops BEING negative whenever we actually get communication…for about two weeks, then it’s back to the baseline annoyance. If Fatshark could actually keep up a decent pace of new stuff there wouldn’t be a cesspool. It’s entirely on the company for refusing to manage their community.

When we had bi-weekly news, more people liked the game. You still had your usual detractors, but it wasn’t as harsh as now.

So you are saying that game updates would be more meaningful if they were paid instead of free,or that they would come more often and be more consistent? That’s just not the case historically for FS. Updates have been slow since Vermintide 1. They were paid for in that game and for about 2 years of Verm2’s life and then they began transitioning to this model where most gameplay updates are free and they regularly release cosmetic packs. Verm2 is still mixed in that regard, but Darktide has been quite consistent with this policy.

Bottom line is, they need to make money somehow, whether by charging a subscription fee to the game, putting a price on gameplay DLCs or selling premium cosmetics. I don’t like the way they decided to handle premium cosmetics in this game either, but I don’t think it would be in a better place without it.

in a way, they are. They wanted this game to be their first live service title. Live service titles tend to “deliver” content on a very regular basis. The lack of regular delivery is what people tend to complain about, aside from crafting woes, technical issues, and whenever something feels too op.

no it doesn’t, the toxic stuff gets drowned out by people huffing the copium and assuming they’re about to change everything to what they’ve been toxic about. then the high passes and they go back to being toxic and blame fatshark for “Failing” them.

Yup, and their current monetization scheme is the best one the Tide series has seen. Non-functional cosmetics being paid allows actual content to be accessible to everyone.

In my group of friends, I was the one who would foot the bill for every map pack in VT2 so that our group would have fresh content to play. I don’t want to go back to that, there’s no benefit there for me as a player. It’s clear that the maps being paid didn’t make them release any quicker, as seen here.

As much as I have beef with how the cosmetics are implemented, and beef with you personally, this is generally correct.

It would be far better if aquilas were earnable, and if there were fewer cheap tricks and a better quality of cosmetics, but at base, ‘cosmetics that don’t affect the game’ is the best possible itemization. After all, all I need to do is not buy them.

A big part of this is actually being given something else to talk about. We’re just kind of treading water atm.

Now for this time of year I’m sure it’s GW, since they don’t let anyone talk about stuff rn until their Skulls for the Skulls throne event, and I’m really hoping that will give us something to sink our teeth into until after the Summer break.

Unlikely but I can’t help but delude myself and hope for the best.

Not really what I was saying no. I never said anything about wether gameplay updates should be free or paid or how fast they come. No idea where you’re getting any of that from.

If you want to look at how a game that sells gameplay DLC pans out, just look at VT2, you don’t have to speculate and neither do I.

I’m afraid I fail to understand what the problem with premium cosmetics is then and why only people missing brains buy them. The reason they switched to this system through VT2’s lifecycle was that (let’s call them) expansion packs weren’t really panning out for them financially. Again, one way or another they need to make money in order for the company to continue development for these games. Not from you specifically, but from other people I get the impression that the general expectation is that everything should be free, which realistically simply would never work.

Personally I don’t have a problem buying some cosmetics if it’s a game I enjoy and to “support” continued development but I can’t stand Darktides shop.

Very expensive.

Rotating FOMO stock.

Arguably of low quality.

Unable to recolor cosmetics, so frequent reskins are sold.

There are only 2 (now 3 for 4 weapons, wow) free weapon skins available in game, compared to all the ones available through the cash shop. That feels pretty awful.

And also nothing about the penance update has me want to scream how much I love Fatshark from the rooftops.

They’re absurdly expensive, can only be earned with real money, are on a rotating shop where 90% of them have not returned so they generate FOMO, are frequently reskins, have god-awful quality besides that, and are far more common than the free and earnable cosmetics.

Basically, good base concept (game needs to make money, might as well make it some drip so you can both look good AND support the devs), horrific execution (the above).

If each one was like $5 of funny money and said funny money could be earned by playing the game, in a catalog of every item they’ve released, I wouldn’t have any beef with monetization.
