Havoc Missions above level 20 are Insane Difficult and unfair and broken

Hard agreed. This is a feature that could not only make the party finder much more useful, but, on paper, it also seems like a very easy feature to add. It could even be added with the next update that, I feel, is just right around the corner.

Yes, a tiny percent of them. I don’t have any problem with it, it seems like you have some, in contrary. Initially I was just pointing out “honing your skills” makes no sense as “endgame content” for vast majority of players, even in this game. It’s not a content in the first place, just some way to past time if you are autistic enough, replaying the same old, stale content again and again, getting nothing out of it. It’s something that can seem like a fun way to pass time to very tiny percentage of any game’s audience. So it’s a huge issue, as the rest of players don’t have anything to do in this game, past certain waypoint, no goals to follow.

This is where you get it wrong. Honing your skills doesn’t make sense for you. Others enjoy the aspect of getting better at the game very much. I consider myself in that camp, as long as that core gameplay loop has enough depth and is interactive enough. Tide games offer that.

There are games with clear goals to follow, and those which offer far more open experience. I’ve about about 3k hours in Darktide. I believe you need a minimum of 1,5k to become an airline pilot. I have had good times, despite some frustrations with how FS runs things, bugs, and often…curious design decisions.

All I can say is, this is a game, it’s supposed to be a good pastime. If it isn’t that for you, don’t waste your free time here. Play something else, or do whatever else brings you fun or that sense of flow (Tide does that for me). It might be as simple as gardening.

Though, looking at the game’s charts, you can tell that it has much fewer players than games like DRG (before GSG started working on Rogue Core). When the devs updating DRG with new content, it was thriving and what had players stick around for the long run because of a fun endgame mode called Deep Dive with 3 missions back to back. Having the teams not be disbanded after every mission and being able to mod the game also helped.

So, in my opinion, saying that “everyone has their tastes” when Darktide clearly can have 40 000+ players at once, but it mostly has 5 000 daily feels like turning your head away from a glaring issue which is bad endgame content. Sure, you may feel entertained, but you’re not the majority of the playerbase. And said majority doesn’t feel the incentive to keep playing.

And that’s…fine imo. Not every game is going to have and hold quintuple-digit average player numbers for years on end. What matters is if the game is still profitable enough (through direct sales or DLC or MTX) that it keeps getting updates. And that seems to be the case.

At any rate, it took DRG years to get to those numbers, and I think DT is on the way too. I do agree that more systems that appeal to more, different types of gamers would help keep people around though, and I feel pretty confident we’ll see those. I just want (and expect, even at the detriment of player counts) the hardcore, core audience of the Tide games who love mechanical/skill expression to keep being a major part of the equation.

how many people do you know that commit to one thing for years or through their whole life.

like serious passionate commitment?

we see the new years resolutions in the gym how long? march, april? at most.

after that the usual guys grunt puke and spit in peace and have the weights to themselves again.

same with games.

noobs love the “1337 imba h4x0r” loadout or guide videos for any pvp game there is, promising easy kills and godlike k/d.

reality hits them in form of a roflstomp once they try that stuff out, lacking the skill, blaming the game and hop onto the next one.

rince and repeat.

that said streamer plays such games for decades sometimes or is a real prodigy isnt taken into account at all.

all they want is easy, instant gratification without putting in any effort.

like the usual “i gonna lose some 30lbs” in 4 months.

no you either change your nutrition for the rest of your life (bummer) or get fat again as soon as you drop the effort.

same thing for games, if the core gameplay isn’t something that keeps you going, “new” content isn’t new by the end of the year anymore, then what?

same “rebound” effect.

might be games with larger playerbase are “easier accessible” something i personally loathe cause darktide is that one gem i found that’s quake outside quake.

snappy, fast paced, reflex demanding (and rewarding) gameplay.

hit 45 this year, no amount of amphetamin would get me into the 5% of quake live anymore so why bother?

i’m still quick and get “in the zone”(best feeling in the world) but 175bpm heart rate 1on1 in q3dm6, playing for dear life… been there, done plenty of it, look back with pride and a sad tear that nothing lasts forever.

darktide gives me that dopamine feeling i havent had in other games, much less stuff with comic graphics or that dont take themselves seriously.(i’m a gorehound and need my immersion)

so drg might be the “best game in the world, killing insects doesn’t satisfy my bloodlust :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

40k in that regard is a dream come true and i could look at the maps alone for hours.

so c4ncer (really fatshark? might tell my haemathologist c4ncer isnt allowed  ) treatment willing, I’ll play darktide until the servers go down one day. be that at 55, 65 or 75

when the “majority” of players won’t even remember having played it in the first place.

would i enjoy some more maps and enemy types, of course i would.

but in the same vein i try to get good enough for a true solo run, enjoy carrying people daily through auric damnation while aiming to get better times while really clearing the map to a point instead of the noobish stealth skipping.

so if i play hab dreyko 7 times a day when map rotation is borked, i still enjoy every match with different peeps and encounters.

if people can’t find enjoyment in this, maybe darktide really is the wrong game to place one’s tent for longer.

I’m sad that immature sweaters just said you “gidgud” instead of reasoned answers

I partially agree with you. I mean, I’m ok with the insane difficulty, but we’re talking about things that are practically bugs, like the ritual spawning in non reachable places or 4 bosses in tight areas

Plus DERANK must be eliminated. 90% of your frustration come from there. I completated all Vermintide weaves but I just quitted Havoc. Sadly I don’t have anymore my old group and derank + random people is just nonsense

Hard agreed on that one. And let’s also not forget that sometimes the AI director spawns so many enemies that the game’s engine can’t handle it and silent specialists start to spawn or even worse the game itself starts to drop in fps and overall performance. Enemy spam becomes a really annoying issue in higher Havoc difficulties.

An issue that I actually have touched upon in the past and gave my idea on how it could possibly be solved here.

My favourite local restaurant serves far less customers than McDonalds. It clearly means its worse, right?

I played DRG for a bit, but I doubt I have more than 100 hours. Randomly generated maps is quite a selling point, but everything else isn’t that exciting for me. Combat is just too simple, as most ranged based horde shooters.

Also this thread isn’t really about replayability of the game or player retention. It’s original post is basically an opinion of a frustrated player about high Havoc difficulty. So let’s stay on the subject?

While I agree that it is good to stay on the subject at hand, I would like to add that the topic has slowly shifted as the discussion continued. It went from talking about whether Havoc is too hard too whether Havoc is a good endgame. You and other people in this thread were in disagreement with Torimori about it, and I simply offered my view on the matter.

Of course, no one is obliged to talk about this specific topic. If someone wants to continue the discussion about whether Havoc is too hard or not, nothing stops them from doing so. Threads like this are flexible so, in my opinion, we don’t have to worry that subjects can shift as the discussion around them progresses.

After a long pause following the Havoc release rush, I played a lot of Havoc this summer. I think it is in a good place.

  • Progression is slower but more rewarding. It keeps the game mode alive.
  • Not getting deranked for helping lower ranked games was an awesome change, for people playing with friends at different levels. It also promotes a sense of community, many higher ranks help lower ranks.
  • While it still has some issues, just roll with it and try to have a good time.

It is very hard. It is also what makes it so fun.

It is harder if you play with randoms, but sometimes you meet really awesome people, and you can form up and play more.

@OP: Practice, then practice more. Playing Havoc 20+ is not the journey, it is the destination. It can be really fun, even when the team ffffs up or the director spawns 4 bosses on your ass, just have a good laugh at those W.T.F moments and run again

Quick tips if progressing is important to you:

  • Avoid rituals if you can’t stomach them. I learned to like them, but it’s a process XD
  • Never do Pox Gas. lol
  • Form a premade with players you like to play with. You can find people on the Darktide discord if you like. Send friend invites after the games when it clicked with a group. When forming a group, balance it to avoid having a glaring weakness (ex: no horde clear at all)
  • Learn new builds, go out of your comfort zone. Before trying to make some off-meta build work, I feel a good approach is to at least be able to play some of the meta builds correctly and understand the core mechanics that make them powerful.
  • Play other classes, you will understand better what the other players experience being in their shoes, and can coordinate better with them in future games.
  • Practice the foundation that is good across all classes (Develop your awareness of what other players are doing at all times, Master Horde-clear without taking any damage, Master your weapon move-techs / Sprint / Slide, Dodge /Dodge-sliding, Naturally find cover/position to cut LOS from gunners, Instantly react when a teamate needs immediate assistance from a dog/net, Tag enemies / tag points to communicate danger, etc)
  • If you are at Rank X, and feel you are hitting a wall, keep practicing at Rank X-(1 to 5), until you feel confident. You won’t derank.
  • Every week your ‘attempts’ refill to 3, so you have at least 2 ‘free attempts’ without deranking to try to level up.

Persevere, learn, and you will progress.

Pretty much.

How you guys are still dealing with the party finder is astounding. Never could separate myself from the stress it causes.

WELL…….. try Destiny 2! Darktide is basically just the Vanguard runs (strike missions) in Destiny 2. Destiny 2 might have a lot less melee and not have the same combo system, but it has arguably the best gunplay feel/experience of any FPS shooter out there. Even the sliding feels better in Destiny 2 (although there’s no dodging like in Vermintide 2 or Darktide).

While VT2 has a new PvP aspect, Destiny 2 offers so much more than either VT2 or DT. Crucible with lots of different variants (3v3, 6v6, different game modes kind of like CtF or blitz).. Gambit (which is PvP and PvE combined), lots of different PvE game modes, and a very relaxed open-world roaming PvE. There are also Dungeons and Raids but it’s very long and pretty much limited to “friends-only” like World of Warcraft raids. Rather importantly, Destiny 2 offered dozens of seasons of new story content and pretty much everything else over the years. However Destiny 2 appears to be on its last legs, running out of steam and pretty much dying out after pissing off too many players after removing so much of the original content (maps, weapons, even entire planets) that people paid for years ago and recycling the enemy and weapon meshes with new skins.

What about Titanfall 2? Apex Legends? Helldivers 2? CoD games? Doom Eternal? Halo Infinite? How about Returnal? Lots more games out there - it’s a big world.

I just have a feeling that Fatshark is probably more focused on making Darktide 2 than on expanding/improving the current Darktide.

Bellular reckons that 10% concurrent after launch (or major update) hubbub dies down is normal. Outliers exist, of course. Insiders at EA report that their rule for terminating a live service is when it drops below 1%.

We’re doing OK. Could be better, could be worse.

thx but all these art styles are not the kind of i like to “make my home in”

helldivers 2 has this useless humor i hate in every game (hence i prefer fallout 1 to 2 and try to ignore the movie references)

doom 2016 has the right pacing, finished doom eternal in nightmare 100% but the monkey bar jump crap isnt doom when you started in 1993(early 1994 technically for me with my 486, but who’s counting)

cod…. not with a ten pole and destiny feels like plastic visually with stuff as weapons i can’t feel attracted to.

weapons ingame need to make me “horny”, some fantasy over the top nerf gun doesn’t do that.

(for that reason i won’t play doom dark ages, they feel far to off for my taste)

40k though is so much up my alley i instantly went and bought mcfarlane figures for 50% of what my gaming rig costed new

vermintide doesn’t satisfy me either as killing rats gives me nothing.

i want human enemies to blast into bloody bits :face_with_tongue:

like i said, back in the day my gaming life was two games religiously quake 3 and unreal tournament.

day in, day out and months of training before each lan party/tournament.

today it’d be quake live IF i was 20 years younger.

and in general i don’t hop across many games, rather try to get as close to perfection as possible in one.

still suck at quake 1 speedruns and i’m 25 years late

that might be, but few games scratch that itch and if i chose one my day too only has 24 hours.

“liked” space marine 2, but its 130 hours compared to 1700 and counting.

if 1993/4 doom1/2 had a counter back then i guess i would have long passed the 10k

It’s not cause the lack of the endgame, it cause there is no side activities, thematical diversity like different biomes, no new enemies that increase the ammount of gameplay sceanrios, no agency over what you want to play - you can’t mash up modifiers or tune enemy/player stats. Just fun stuff like photomode also doesn’t exist.

DT has nothing to appeal for different types of players, it’s appealing only to those who like the core gameplay and ready to invest thousands of hour into this aspect alone. And if you look at the chart it’s 3,5-5k player can enjoy the core gameplay alone.

And on top of that FS is extremely slow. Should rebrend themselves into Slimshark to swim faster.

I agree that havoc is hard and in some cases impossible. That’s why I stopped playing at 20. I think you need a good team who play together and a well balanced squad to make it to 40. I still wonder how a 500 lb Ogryn can’t push off a 100 lb dog who has me down. Trappers who shoot through hordes to get you, snipers who can see you through fog at 100 yards.

I had somewhat similar thoughts, but after doing several times havoc 40, at least once on all classes, aside from psyker, i think 21-30 is ok and not as hard as you describe them. Problem with havoc are teammates (40%), your own actions(40%), some random crap(20%), like 2-3 rituals at the same time, anyone who says it doesn’t happen is a liar and don’t play havoc.

But there’s clear problem with it’s progression system, havoc below 20(inclduing) and above 21 is different worlds, spike in difficulty is insane, yet there’s no spike in 26-30, but at the same time there’s spike on 31 and there’s not much difference between 31 and 40. Havoc lacks gradual difficulty increase, that what leads to such impressions from it, players just not prepared if they gradually go from low havoc to higher, there’s no difference within 5 levels and barely any within 10 levels, each spike feels like going from 10 to 100.
