Good flashlights don't exist in the 41st Millenium

So now that we’re getting the light’s out modifier, let’s all have a good laugh at how the Imperium can only afford to give its soldiers a weak flashlight that can barely see 2ft in front of them, and how ridiculous this modifier is the harder the difficulty gets because you cannot see any specials until they’re right on top of you, let alone all the non-special shooters around every corner. Space faring civilizations didn’t bother with night vision either, I guess, which, strangely enough, I’m guessing is what those helmets all the little shooters have on does for them… How silly.

*Apparently only a Lasgun comes with a flashlight? Or specific ones? Funny how no one in the game bothers mentioning that. Pretty sure that makes it even worse. You’re pigeonholed into using a certain type of gun just to see.

When Quake 3 came out it had the same problem. Very soon there was a player-made “duct tape” mode to attack a flashlight to your weapon. After a while, id caved and made it standard.

Not playing lights out again until I can see as an Ogryn. As it is now, it’s not fun.

You’re thinking of Doom 3.

Don’t remember that, but I can almost understand it. The point of Doom was that you’re a lone space marine having to scavenge to survive. Here, we’re on an important ship being sent down to do important work, you’d think they’d offer up at least the survival basics. We’re practically living in the stone age compared to these people, and we have 100,000 lumen torches that can light up an entire block. The Imperium can destroy entire worlds, but nope, not even a basic helmet with a lamp on it.

yup, this sucks
not bothering to play these night maps since I can’t see the enemies
give us a good flashlight

I definitely felt bad for the Ogryn I played a match with. I even asked him how is he seeing anyone at all. He replied “I don’t” which I think is hilarious lmao

am i the only one who presses the special button, thinking, “i gotta trun my light on” only to realise that it was on all along? only to repeat it 5m later

why are they so dim that you literally don’t know if they are on at all?!!

Most likely they wanted to put in a system of weapon attachments that would regulate the ranged weapon’s special attack on some weapons(so you could put a flashlight on your gun if you wanted to, for example some ripper gun variants didn’t have a bayonet in previous betas but they put it in for all variants in preorder beta) but they’ve abandoned it or are still trying to make it work before implementing it. Now they’re looking at it as “if you want a certain special attack take that weapon”(here’s the statement on the dev stream Twitch) which screws over ogryn for the darkness modifier
