Genestealer cult as next faction?

i guess the images speak for itself?

Seems practical to me that a new faction would be humanoids (suitable for shooters/bruisers) with the potential for a range of specials. A question for someone with more 40k experience: would genestealers fit the bill? Any interesting properties of genestealers that could be translated into gameplay features, like an enemy transforming into stronger/different enemies?

Genestealer cults should be easy enough, plenty of models there to fit the general range of enemies we have currently (as far as ranged, melee, bruisers etc and most are humanoid. ish).

What would fit in the monster slot would be a bit more interesting, i mean i would love if we got a patriarch model running around but it would also be a bit silly for us to take one of those down or more to the point, that one of those wouldn’t just lazily turn us into a smear on the ground the second we were noticed.
The odd comissar novel aside, not something we should be even remotely capable of doing, unlike say, an avatar of khaine which any old guardsman could roll if they felt suitably patriotic.

From a lore/tabletop perspective some juiced version of an abominant would make sense in the monster role, and maybe regular genestealers in some fashion depending on how badass they felt like making them.
Maybe a looted leman russ or drill rig with just sponsons functioning as a monster option as well?

As for genestealers specifically, I’d personally think making genestealer packs some kind of ranged check where you’d get minced if you let them get close would be more fun, but we’ll see when/if they do show up, the obvious replacement slot would be a rager type mob if they come at you one at a time or in small packs.

Personally i think they’d make a great second enemy faction so here’s hoping there’s something to the file labels.

God I would love to get some horror into the game. :scream_cat: Idk what’s in the genestealer cult exactly but genestealers and random weird horrific monster thingies like insectoids etc would be beyond pog.

Some light reading @Elodie

This does not confirm anything, it’s as telling as the Goliath Truck on the maps, or the Autopistol that we already use

If not for the context of the game where you are an almighty janitor, the specialist spawn cues on their own are quite scary!

the “there’s genestealers on atoma!” rumor is probably the dumbest one this game has. the only time they’re mentioned is an event centuries ago on another planet that morrow might have been at as part of his “morrow’s been at every single major disaster in history” gag.

I still don’t get the irony of Morrow’s statement. Can anyone explain it for me?

Greentide or bust.

My read is he’s telling people to stop listening to rumors or making up theories based on said rumors, while he’s acting on rumors himself.

The statement from Morrow is announcing he can hear everything the players (Rejects/Gaurdsmen) are “whispering” about during missions.

So the “Pack it in” is him telling everyone that their statements are close to heretical, which is a very generous warning from him to tell us to shut up before he has to start removing sympathizes or traitors from the team.

The Irony is he is whispering back to tell us to shut it!

I heard an interesting read of this line that suggests that while Morrow tells us to stop spreading rumours about planetside, he does very little to stop rumours about himself, if not actively propagating them

though i´m not particularly deep down my warhammer rabbit hole in terms of knowledge, so far i´ve seen genestealers with more than 2 upper limbs.

guess that´d make for an enemy that could fire/slash at multiple teammates at once. 2 “normal” limbs dual wielding a melee weapon while firing a las pistol with the “other” arm or something like that.

other than that i´ve briefly played deathwing while waiting for darktide´s release, those hybrids could make for a faster crusher class.

are they prone for catching the nurgle goo or immune due to their dabble in space crispr/cas ?

I believe there was a lore blurb in one of the 8th ed codexes of Nurgle corruptiom affecting a GSC, but as a general rule GW doesn’t like that avenue of lore. So while theoretically possible, especially if the patriarch had already died somehow or the Hive Fleets never showed up, its exceptionally rare in universe and will probably not happen in game.

I do think they would fit the bill well (although personally I would appreciate some other under represented faction be added). Tons of squishy chaff models in both ranged and melee positions, backed up by heavy weapons teams and larger more dangerous melee threats. Personally the biggest thing they would struggle with is mini bosses, as there is really only 1 fitting model for it (unless they have a humanoid enemy boss fight which I would be down for. Imagine fighting one of these guys flipping around and stuff.)

Not really mid battle transformations like chaos, besides for this crazy dude poking people and buffing them:

As for their “schtick” there are 2 main sides to them. First is ambush, misdirection and trickery of all sorts, with a large emphasis on ambush. Whether defending a growing cult or on their “Day of Ascension” they learn the terrain and meticulously plan for combat, surging out of hidden passageways or even detonating blast charges to rush from subterranean tunnels. Could be a fun for an ambush, instead of being warned and getting time to prepare, maybe you hear a drill or something and than very quickly you get ambushed?

Second thing is they are an incredibly character focused faction. For how small their total roster is like half of it is support chatacters. Maybe an emphasis on more specials spawning and those that do either focus on buffing or have a passive buff as well as being dangerous?

Personally I think all of this is just fun enemy crafting because I doubt we will get a second enemy faction for at the very least the next year-ish. But its fun so whatever.

Abominant

Give it a second variant that instead use no weapon and only it’s Claws

Pure Strain Genestealer (They might need to be enlarged somewhat but it doesn’t cause much frictions)

Quick, leap and maybe a drag attack ?

Variant: Ymgarl

Give it either cloaking abilities (Where it will be able to ambush players)

Variant: Adrenal

Having explosive attacks

Or could do with a Broodlord as they can use most Tyranid mutations

The reall hardship is building the “horde”/trash enemies, where for GSC the easiest is to play on Kissed, so fascinated Civies that are forced to fight against us by their mutations.

I doubt we will get a new faction that can’t lorewise be “allied” with the current one

The cosmetics’ tag names are based on official miniatures and sometime on official Citadel paint names (which used to be one of the thing people pointed toward as “being GSC confirmation”, when right next to it was Baltasar Gelt.)

Edit: I do repeat that GSC should not appear here, and instead they should introduce new cultist, Khorne, Slaanesh and Tzeentch being in the same game would be a sight to see

Fighting genestealers would be amazing and creepy AF. Gets my vote :negative_squared_cross_mark:
