Geheimnisnacht arrives in Vermintide 2

That Fatshark has taken bad decisions, I agree… Mine was a general reasoning to say that this time I’m agree with them: double moons should be a very rare event (with double moons I mean night light).

Apart this, I can understand that everyone has his opinion and that more modded realm things should be on live version.

Well so you’re saying that in situation where there is basically still few maps and those get old pretty fast for average players, it’s good idea to not implement completely different lighting that brings fresh air to the same old maps and adds replayability ?

Am I missing something important here ?

Btw if they don’t do it, there prolly won’t be next year to do the event again, seeing where the numbers are heading and how we are getting more and more of these bad decisions.

I don’t want to seem sarcastic… but yep, I mean exactly that. But apart that with this green light I see less variety than before (every map seems too similar), the most important thing must be the gameplay. Enemies (apart in those maps where the darkness is an intended as difficulty) must be clearly visible. Now there is more stress to the eyes.

Or at least this si my opinion, I don’t want to convince anyone.

Hello, love your events as always, but I have a problem, I can’t finish the “complete the weekly event” because I finished all the weekly events months ago (got all the hats/skins) so I won’t be able to have the new painting, what to do please?

Complete the weekly challenge there. When you create a game, you should see the option.

Games aren’t democracies you know. There’s a fine line between what players want, and what’s fun for them. This is Game Design 101 here.
We already did discussed of it (with the help of this article How Gearbox's 'Truth Team' outwitted Borderlands feedback - Polygon )
I will then also recommend reading https://www.gamasutra.com/ which is kinda a reference.

That, again, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t listen to players at all.
But here, I understand “more light variations” rather than “make this halloween event all the year so it’s not so special anymore, so when next halloween comes, no one will care”. And I do agree that more ambiance variations in maps could be a great thing.

It’s very important to keep long terms features, rather than short term pleasures, which is something an animal (human, or others) is not really good at. Uniqueness of events is one of them. See : Deep Rock, or Monster Hunters which keep a cycle of events which can’t be done “at another time” without mods =p

They should make it all year as well as adding in other weather as well. Simple changes to the lightning that I watched them do on stream in less than a hour while showing off the map editing tools. Give us a morning sun map, night, rain and storms, foggy, etc.

Then for Halloween, they can do actual events, like the one with the wraith chasing you now. Maybe next year they could do a Jason themed one, with an immortal Chaos warrior in a hockey mask chasing you down. There’s ton’s of things they can do for events. For Christmas, give us presents, red weapons or cosmetics, etc. You can even have loot rats that look like Santa which drop a red or cosmetic for the whole party. I’m sitting here on like 2000 hours and don’t have all the hats. Something is really wrong with the distribution of loot.

There’s nothing wrong with unique events, but this is something 99% of the community who when asked, wanted. People want it. Give it to us.

Either way, I’m enjoying the event. Gonna be gone all weekend for work though, so I’ll miss most of it. At least I got to play them for 2 days.

The level lighting could change the same way as it does in the keep.
Or they can look at the clock of the host’s computer and decide what lighting effect to use.
Heck, we had rain in Stormdorf in V1.

I would love a (dynamic) weather system with day-night cycles! Imagine playing during a thunderstorm.

Again, it would remove the uniqueness from the event if it was available all the year.

Actually, no, they probably can’t do that because of the licence (and the need for Games Workshop to validate it). Leech was only made more shadowey, but the model wasn’t remade.

Absolutely agree on thoses though.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the lighting was some kind of static asset of the map that they couldn’t change dynamically and that’s why we can’t have nice things, only when activated for events.
Might be it’s the same with the winds too.

You can change the light (not the skybox) on photomode mod, so I guess it’s at least a bit changeable =p

Then it’s just probably too low on the todo list

Ughr! Enough  This is such a bs excuse.

This particular thing is 100% good decision and if they again can’t see it even after all the asking for it for a year, crapload of likes on comments about making this permanent, pool having close to 100% for yes we want it somehow and people playing it for hundreds of hours on modded realm… then sure whatever, they can keep with their “proper” fun decisions. Like they did with last ones, the weaves, the stagger mechanic, destroying 1.6 balance, screwing the temp HP and list goes on…

It’s all working out well. Numbers going up like crazy, reviews super positive, no negativity anywhere, we’re in wonderland.

Yea I remember  I would just suggest looking at games that do the listening well, like POE…

The last league is perfect example, the Blight hey pushed the release schedule super hard, and also tried to do league with crazy amount of mobs and risky mechanic, all this together resulted it complete chaos, relatively speaking. But I just played it over weekend and kinda everything got smoothed out. And friends who played VT2 a loooot, are telling me that they like the league so much that they are not going to come play VT2. And that was like worst league start ever for POE.

How it worked ? People feedback the issues and bugs, boom fixed, league is amazing. Chris wasn’t like “Ok y’ll all frickin negative and we know better, cya next league”.

And it’s always like that, the stuff most people want changed and makes sense, seriously,… gets fu… changed or added or fixed, very quickly. It’s amazing.

Here we have exact ! opposite and so we also have exactly opposite effect, people getting more frustrated and irritated and game kinda crashing and burning while the core of the game is really amazing and this could be incredible game with much higher number of active players.

If they woke up and started working on stuff players actually find important instead of whatever crap they just feel like doing or think is the best. Looking at damn versus… there should never be wasted minute of dev time on that thing, when game is in this sorry state.

This night lighting thing is just perfect example of how they just don’t get even this kind of simple stuff. It’s sad.

There will be no next halloween if this continues this way, seriously.

And who in their right mind thinks it’s great idea to shelf something for year… when it could be used all the time and is actually pretty good. Makes zero sense. They can come up with something else next year, next year is not something to worry about now and btw… next year if we get there and get this… you know what will happen ? I will again take out my magic crystal ball and tell you. People will be like “you fu… kidding me, recycled event third time ? pathethic !” So no… that’s also not something you want.

This was explained by Chris on JDC talk, as bad idea. Since it’s much better to do static and have many different light conditions than just one with dynamic lighting  Which makes perfect sense.

C’mon, this is confirmed by many game designers around, and even explained in the article. Like “Everyone” wants to be able to craft its weapons with the property they want in Borderlands, and they specifically didn’t do this on purpose, despite nearly all players wanting this exact feature.

You mean, this way of not having halloween light outside of halloween events ? Cause I’m pretty sure this is rather low on everyone’s todo list to “save” the game =p

It’s situation specific, you can’t pull this up in every situation and say see, ppl don’t know what they want.

This is just an simple example of the issue that is going on here. It’s not just this, it’s many things like this. And then many others.

It’s not like when I say that fixed weaves are dumb move and they need to do random ones.

Static weather is perfectly fine! As long it benefits the atmo and keeps the maps diversified!

But this was specifically answered with the already stated reason by the devs which you obviously don’t want to agree with. That doesn’t mean thoses reasons are invalid. In the long term, it’s a part of the uniqueness of the event to have thoses specific lights, keep, and possibly map (when some stuff like quiet drink in others events will pop around). What you’re basically asking (without the intent to do so) is “No more seasonnal events, events all the time are better”.

Oh, I’m glad my strong disagreement with many decisions is getting across successfully :joy:

Btw, I was right about all the things I cried the most about.

  • Static weaves - uber fail
  • Stagger mechanic pushed onto everyone and destroying balance completely - double tap, epic fail (got super strongly nerfed later after launch on official, to the point where it kinda feels like before… but damage is done and balance is still rekt)
  • Temp HP busted - just horrible, till this point
  • Cataclysm having no reward - more and more ppl is starting to b*tch about it as time goes, since it’s obviously another wrong approach

So it’s not like I’m talking nonsense here.

This night maps thing, are the same, and I’ve been b*tching about it since it got released year ago.

Also I’m already in full complain mode about the Versus, that one is also so bad move. Because they even said it themselves, it takes a lot of dev time, which is obvious even without them saying. So all the broken stuff in actual main game that ppl love is not moving anywhere and the plane burning and heading to the ground is just gaining more and more momentum. Not kidding that many people think this is already at point of no return. For fu… what ? For some goof mode that ppl will play few weeks and then will be dead, genious move !

I don’t share that opinion, I think this can be turned around, but that needs 180 turn in how they approach this, and chance of that happening is prolly very slim so… :crying_cat_face:

I could write down more bad decisions and bet on them, but there is so much stuff wrong that it would server no purpose.
