Game only opens as a background process. Can't play

Issue Description:
I tried to jump on another thread with a similar problem but didn’t get any response so I figured I should start my own thread.

When I start the game in steam the launcher appears and when I hit play Darktide launches as a subprocess instead of its own app. No window comes up and I am completely unable to access the game. I have reinstalled it to multiple different folders and even different drives. I did a clean install of my drivers, made sure my OS was up to date and disabled my firewalls to see if anything helps and nothing did. I’ve tried starting a protected game and running as administrator but neither of those would cause the game to launch as anything other than a background process.

I downloaded the game on Game Pass and it starts fine but I have approx 330hrs on the steam version (the one I paid for) and I’d rather not have to start over on another platform.

As you can see Steam says the game is running but it’s doing so as a subprocess to Steam and no window is open for the game

Could you try deleting Darktide’s (Steam) AppData, and see if the issue persists after launching normally?

  1. Press the Windows key + R
  2. Enter %appdata% within the search input and select ‘OK’
  3. Navigate to AppData\Roaming\Fatshark
  4. Delete the entire Darktide directory
  5. Attempt to launch as normal

That worked!!! Thanks so much, I’ve been trying to fix this all week! I can finally get back to purging heretics  :fire: :fire:

Worked for me too - thx ^^

Is there a more specific file to delete/edit to get this fix without losing all the settings?
