Game is dying, add grind incentive before its to late

I’m talking about Vermintide, not other games. There were more players asking for other things than PvP. We had a bunch of polls, PvP was almost on none of those polls, neither here on forums nor on Reddit.

Ok, so we agree that there are careers that are not unique enough (some of them not even close to unique) which Fat Shark should revisit (not just the talents) and make a major overhaul.

I will just make my point and stop commenting on this thread.

Facts:

Fat Shark has plans and wishes as a company and as a group of individuals. I’m more than sure that the leading duo have some of their own wishes and side projects that they would like to implement, and that’s perfectly understandable

There are majority of requests, and there are minority of requests.

All of that, Fat Shark wishes and plans, majority and minority meet up in a simple diagram presented bellow. With good planning and patience, there should be enough time and money for almost everyone to get their thing, but it is needed to

P R I O R I T I Z E

P1 - should be done as soon as possible

P2 - As soon as P1 is done, start focussing on this.

P3 - This comes at the end when there’s time and everything else has been done.

I think you’re underestimate the attract than pvp can be to players. It’s probably one of the most important addition to the game. Done right, it will draw a huge (and I really mean huge) amount of new people in. It won’t probably be done right at first though.

Looking at others game that did exactly this is the way to go. Not looking at current playerbase which is niche (despite the numbers).

Yeah there need to a major overhaul of every characters but talents were a good step already. They need to continue the balance though.

Alright buddy.

As if adding “grind” will solve anything. What a stupid concept.

There are still open issues to be fixed but I’m getting real sick of all the toxic negativity around here. Personally I prefer to actually play the game rather than complaining about it endlessly on the forums.

Yeah, there were some missteps but everyone always preaches doom and gloom around here but the game continues to chug along and Fatshark do seem like they are still committed to supporting the game.

Remember when everyone said that the game was effectively dead after Bogenhafen came out and there was endless whining about “muh loot” and “muh endgame”?

Yeah, I remember that too. Lo and behold the game is still chugging along just like VT1 did for the longest time.

The thing is, nothing gets done right neither at first, nor at second, some things do not get done ever. That is the point - issues and requiests first pile up then settle as sediment then fossilize without being addressed. Every new addition to the game introduced some set of issues that are unresolved now. The way FS communicates things to us by their actions as well as with words, those things will not get addressed - they will get buried beneath another layer of new buggy content that will draw players at first and then ultimately repel them back away.

But Froh, that is like… nobody cares about that kind of fix, that is the last thing that needs fixing. Some random achievement that rewards commendation chest.

This should have been fixed before release, everyone was complaining about that issue since the day one of beta. And today, Gor will still frickin one shot me, when holding one grim, which is ridiculous, it’s not Chaos Warrior it’s near trash mob, plus their range is still nuts. They just swipe in the air and kill you, it’s not just nuts relatively to the other trash mobs but it also looks absurd.

But to be fair, CW’s and Maulers also do weird-as* attacks and just hit the ground or air , meter or more away from me and kill me. That’s also infuriating. I should make some compilation of those dumb attacks.

This was actually, best update ever. But the most important thing, that is being repeated since launch is still not there… there is still no button to just activate the twitch and huge part of playerbase have no clue that they can just connect to random stream and have fun with twitch.

I also made quick post about current issues with the Twitch… did not even get the “acknowledged” mark.

I play twitch in QP and ppl are very often asking if I’m streaming or saying that they did not play this yet. (because most of them didn’t find the patch exciting since they didn’t know they can play it without streaming)

This is perfect example how they don’t get even this kind of super obvious stuff… and for some reason they can’t read the feedback or like… I dont know, somebody explain to me why this is not getting fixed in year and half or how long the game is out.

Yea, another super low hanging fruit that would be incredible… not getting done for ages. They could just do simple version of deed crafting and add all working mods/mutators from modded realm that people were playing. It would be incredible update, add a looot of replayability on official realm, could also include night mode and would also finally provide sink for all the useless materials. They are talking about this for more than half year, at least.

You know why ? They thought they could get away with it, but the feedback was so so so bad that they just couldn’t, same for the 5 level grind and moving last row of talents.

Done by introducing new mechanic that screwed balance of literally everything else, and that is still not received well even after all the patching up.

I’m kinda neutral about it at this point, but looking back it was obviously horrible idea to push it like this.

Non hardcore people still have no clue how it even works by now…

While they could just fricking keep the old shields and tweak em in old system, would be relatively easy and would not mess up everything else. They could add the boss block in old system, they could add bit more dmg, they could add that one more dodge… it could have all been done in the old system.

I prolly missed this one, have no info on what changed with 2h swords, the Krub 2h is still pointless, Elf’s 2h is still meh-tier.

Yea this was great, at least from my perspective, since I didn’t play the VT1

Here we got one map, that is probably least played of em all by big margin because the terrain is super hard and it’s op/frustrating goats only map  So providing close to zero replayability, great.

Would be amazing if they actually took time and balanced them properly.

Ufff…

Uhm… just…

Insta assassins striking back !

I don’t think so, people drop the game because it’s constantly broken as fu…

What do you get more pissed about, not getting new map or getting insta jumped by assassin, after you got revived from 70-80 dmg gor headbutt in the air insta-kill, playing class that generates basically zero temp HP ? :joy:

The latter are situations where I’m thinking “ffs… what is this crap again”

Btw, since you were talking about suggestions, here’s one, they should make the deed crafting DLC/update way before WoM, would take fraction of time and would provide 10x more replayability and fun then the nightmarish weaves.

Also winds would be incredible as deed mutator in deed crafting system, qp weaves with random spawns ofc, weaves as 3 random chunks with 3 random winds linked together thru some stargate wall kinda portal or whatever  (which is me and some other ppl thought weaves will be)

‘Dying’ is a terrible term to describe what’s happening, especially because of the kinds of posts it elicits. A game never really ‘dies’ outside of literally being taken offline, like a lot of MMORPGs, and even then a lot of the corpses will be allowed to move again via private servers and the like. That’s a whole other topic, though.

As far as responding to the OP, all i’ll suggest is to accept defeat, take a break, and maybe come play Deep Rock with me. Vermintide isn’t going anywhere, there aren’t any subscriptions to keep playing - and hopefully when season 2 rolls around the game will be in a better spot. I sympathize with your frustration, because I was there too, although it’s misplaced in my opinion if you feel that grind is what the game needs. More styrofoam packing isn’t going to make people come back.

It needs real direction, and probably a 3.0 patch to overhaul the game a third or fourth time so that things actually work and there’s a solid foundation to build off of. It’s just got too much of everything, right now. Too many weapons, too many careers, too many talents, too many properties, too many arbitrary temporary hp systems. Variance is good, but a lot of it is so thinly spread that you aren’t really making any choices most of the time, and I don’t think the dwarf has ever been less fun to play since the launch of the game(unless you absolutely love shielded ironbreaker).

Yea this like, they just cannot learn anything from past. It’s mindblowing at this point.

I will again predict the future here… as I did in the beta.

Even if Versus is great (which I doubt tbh, since project like this would need a lot of work and tweaking and tuning to be somewhat balanced in the end and replayable), it will be fun for few weaks max and then it will be dead. It doesn’t fit into the core game, it’s side-gig. And they are wasting resources on that while the game is bugged mess and needs 100% of dev resources to get fixed finally. And also to do the deed crafting system that is so very much needed.

I did. Completed challenge in a whim.

But it wasn’t. We can complain all we want, but it won’t change the past.

I’m getting more pissed about being insta jumped by an assassin. But this is not it that makes me stop playing the game. What will stop me is lack of updates especially when my longs term goals are met. Not because I’ll pissed, but because I’ll play another game. Because the other game will give me something new.

Again, we can’t go back in time. This is too late. Let’s improve starting with what we have.

This is a great game, with actually less players than V2, and not dying at all. Frequent updates helps a lot.

It does have fewer people on the regular. What’s nice, though, about Deep Rock is that you don’t even need other people, solo play is built right in with the cute lil robot helper.

Hopefully people can just continue to like what they like. My only point is that if people are too fed up with Rat Game right now, maybe Dwarf Game will satiate them until there are some big changes.

So you fall back on two basic defaults:

  1. Past is past - no use digging it up or analyzing it;
  2. Present state of matters have only one interpretation: yours. Players need new content because you want new content.

Gets kind of pointless arguing about subjective matters. Also, who do you implore to “improve starting with what we have”? Someone in particular who is on the dev team or on FS management? because I don’t think we as a community are doing a poor job at reporting and testing stuff for free - stuff that should work correctly from day 1 since they marketed the game as release and not as early access beta, which suits the state of affairs much better.

There are many many suggestions in this thread as to what could be developed to entice players back or to keep players engaged.

For me, everything people want is right there for the taking. The core of things that could provide what people want is in front of your face in game.

The lack of replayability could be solved by allowing players to use dust and scrap to craft their own deeds with rewards based upon difficulty. That solves 2 problem s in one swoop.

In fact, most of the concerns made by all kinds of people and players in this thread could be addressed by adjusting something that is already RIGHT THERE IN THE GAME STARING YOU IN THE FACE and just needs tweaking. It is monumentally frustrating to be able to see a fairly easy solution to an obvious problem… Only to find that it is shelved in favour of VSmode, or new careers, or some other hair-brained money making scheme.

Analyzing it means making suggestions on how to improve it, not making rants.

Players need content, because it’s a known game design thing when you run “game as a service”, which is what V2 wants to do (aka supporting the game for years, since there’s no really a purpose to a V3).

Payday 2 ? Did bug fix bring people back ? Nope, only content. You can see the nice chart there. ( PAYDAY 2 - Steam Charts )

Wants more V2 related things even if Payday 2 is close.

Do you see more players coming back with the big balance patch which bring a lot of fixes as well, or during dlc releases ?

Now you can argue stats are subjective (even if they are not really), but hey, all discussions are.

So “I want bug fixes, and I’m pretty sure the game will be successful if we focus only this” despite all others games mostly bug free not proving this is way more subjective that “I think more content will bring more people”.

Then don’t ? :stuck_out_tongue:

I implore people to be constructive so we can attain a great game, and help devs rather than poorly ranting about game dying which is straight up factually wrong (currently).

And it is great, actually giving a feedback with what people wants, and how to solves some known issues.

Well, you will have more deeds to do. But rewards will still be limited to equipment. That doesn’t really solve the issue if they don’t add new mutators for example. When you have the 500 deeds frame, why should you continue playing this without being able to really focus some seasonnal mutator of some sort ?

It could be great that they did rework deeds way before, I do agree. Besides that I don’t agree about your hostility to new modes (and new careers) they are needed.

I’m not completely against every new thing, and I hope the VS comes with dedicated servers for everybody. I suppose I’m also completely jaded about new stuff as it is invariably broken and also buggers up lots of other stuff. New careers would just be another thing that fatshark can’t balance properly and will cause more fury.

For everyone who has run out of deeds, being able to craft your own is a massive improvement.

The end game loot is a huge problem I agree, and I hope lohners emporium will fix it. Hope is a cruel mistress though.

Exactly what I feel when seeing broken player outlines, unaccounted for lord damage, mouse cursor jumping to “Decline” button by default, stupid re-reloading of the keep every time you switch a lobby, lack of deed crafting, idiotic chest opening animation, broken climbing animation for all enemies, bots getting snatched out of your game when a player joins, hero portrait going to the death head state when someone is joining making you jump and wonder when did the bot manage to get killed, your weapon freely pass through an enemy knocking out everyone around so you get hit by this one lucky bastard, enemies freely stepping through one another and hitting you in their running hitting animation, enemies sliding around facing you even if they are tracking you around an obstacle (including corners of walls), broken spawn in the Rasknitt arena (also from day 1), joining a lobby failing because you join to early, players unable to join your lobby if they are not friends with the host, QP matchmaking that does not show any useful info or shows erroneous info (like 2 hero portraits crossed out and then right next to it it says 3/4 players), matchmaking unable to reliably find games in given range, matchmaking having an idiotic logic of first logging a person in then showing him a hero selection screen instead of the other way around, the games’ gaping lack of promised dedicated servers, stupid hero animation that looks nothing like the one you see in first person, FK ult stopping on an oddly sticking out branch or a stone lying around, etc. etc. I can go on, believe you me.

What can be suggested about existing bugs in the game? Do you expect me to point out exactly why the game is bugged in a specific way? I could if I had access to the source code. Since noone here has this access, the only logical suggestion to a bug is “fix it”, is it not?

However, arguing that making new content on top of a bugged code base is harder is not that subjective.

I don’t I’ve already stated that I just disagree with you in the matters of priorities because of the point I’ve stated above. I was just amused by the way you “rallied” mr. flisker in your reply.

Vermintide was never, in the history of the franchise… about grind, ever.

As far as gear grind and leveling go, you are done with that pretty much after ~100 hours, which is already a far better deal for the price you pay compared to 99% of the infinitely recycled AAA (priced) garbage with shelf life of three months at best. Still, compared to actual “looter” games, this is nothing.

The people who spend thousands of hours in the game are mostly doing so because they like the challenge that vast majority of other games simply won’t provide - which is by design.

I’ll agree that we need more achievements and cosmetics to farm.
In a way it’s much easier to please hardcore players because adding achievements and stuff for bragging rights is relatively easy development wise. Although it’s much harder to please them in terms of quality.

Maps are cool but also way overrated in people’s heads. A new map is only new for the first few times you run it and by the end of the week new is old. Not to mention how extremely time consuming making a brand new map is.

What FS should really focus on here is capitalizing on what they already have. Adding more ways to play the game, more game modes, randomized weaves with 6900x more replayability than the current system, more achievements paired with portrait frames, weapon skins etc, ways to earn weave skins in the base game, existing red (blue) skins glowing in different colors… list goes on.

More importantly, any game that actually requires brain these days (very few) will go hand in hand with builds and theorycrafting … the more horizontal progression we have here, the better. Talent overhaul was a step in the right direction but we need to see MORE of that. First thing that comes to mind here are weapon traits - most of them are either completely worthless or purely RNG based and don’t affect our playstyle in any interesting way. Give us stuff like "X happens on 3 consecutive melee headshots, bleed, fear, more bodyshot dmg traded for headshot dmg, whatever else - anyone could probably come up with 20 interesting, playstyle changing traits if they sat down and thought about it for an hour…

It won’t, but that is what you get if you make mistakes, you get complaints… more and bigger mistakes => more and bigger complaints. That’s how it works.

Imagine world where you keep fu*king up and everyone around you is super positive and encouraging. That is not how it works in our reality. :joy:

And only reason I keep doing it, is that I still have small ember of Froh-like optimism inside  Hoping that some miracle happens and stuff magically gets fixed and Vermintide will start growing and everything will be amazing. They will get married in the end and live happily ever after :shark:

Yes, but, that is long-term-stop. The assassin thing is something that the game is full currently and that is quick-stop. People don’t need 1000 of those moments to get the “Zen Master” achievement before dropping the game.

Also if you stop because you finished everything in the game, you might still come back and play just socially, to have fun with friends, instead of going for some 500 deeds frame or whatever. That’s what I did for a long time, played “just socially” no achievements to do rly.

But if you end on the quick-stop kinda thing, then that is not good. Those people will do negative reviews which leads to new players getting discouraged from trying the game and so on.

If someone stops and says in review “Well, I did 3000 hours in this and you know… now there is not much to do for me so I only play like once a week with friends” Then… wow, that is amazing review imo. Plus that kinda guy would come back when something new comes, no matter if it’s in 1 month or 6 months.

I think there is huge difference between those two kind of “dropping the game”. Huge…

Yea man, this is bullsh*t ! :scream: Glad that someone else is finding this a problem

Exactly my words :joy:

That ult, could be so much more fun, if it actually didn’t get stopped by every single pebble.

Like elf, she can run thru nearly anything. There are few issues with pathing, but it’s so much better then FK. Plus making the ramming area or at least the landing spot bigger so one doesn’t end the ult with enemies in mid attack animations because some of them did not get staggered.

And it’s not like FK is some meta vermin destroyer that the ult needs to suck on purpose.
