Game (and pc) crash on official realm launch

Issue Type (Required):

Launcher

Issue Description (Required):

Hello! My friend is currently unable to launch the game on the official realm without his game and then computer crashing completely. After reading through similar issues on the forums and my own past pc stability issues with anti cheat services, I think the problem is identical to this person’s issue: Fails to open 'Official Realm' after clicking play on launcher

I say this because the pc crash occurs immediately after the small loading box appears after clicking play on the launcher, freezing his pc on that loading box indefinitely. This means we have no way to share a crash report for either the game or computer since he just manually powers it off after waiting a few minutes.

We have tried quite literally every solution shown in threads with similar issues to no success: antivirus exceptions, deleting certificates, game reinstall, anti cheat repair etc

Mostly posting this to hopefully generate a little more attention towards what seems to be a somewhat common issue

Reproduction Rate (Required):

Constant (100%)

Platform (Required):

PC - Steam

Sorry to hear this @SmiteIV

If possible, can your friend please provide their recent console log and launcher log:

Also, if your friends PC is becoming unresponsive/crashing, I recommend they run through possible solutions here:

Thanks for the quick response! Here are console and launcher logs:

vermintide2_launcher.log (363.5 KB)

Thanks @SmiteIV!

From the logs, I can see the following error
"Vermintide 2. You need to have the Steam Client running to play the game."

This is quite an uncommon issue, but historically players have had success resolving it by doing the following:

  1. Ensure latest Windows updates are installed
  2. Ensure latest Steam client updates are installed
  3. Add appropriate Anti-Virus and Firewall exceptions for both Vermintide 2 and Easy Anti-Cheat. Your friend will need to add the following exceptions:
  • vermintide2.exe in \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer Vermintide 2\binaries
  • vermintide2_dx12.exe in \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer Vermintide 2\binaries_dx12
  • EasyAntiCheat.exe in \Program Files (x86)\EasyAntiCheat

Please let me know how they get on!

Hello again! Added all three as exceptions for Norton antivirus with no luck. Steam and windows seem to be up to date too, though he is using windows 10 if that’s at all relevant

@SmiteIV thanks for the update! Sorry to hear this didn’t do the trick.

Hm, in which case can they try this next:

  1. Log out of their Steam account in the Steam client
  2. Exit Steam completely (End all Steam processes within Task Manager)
  3. Right-click Steam shortcut and choose ‘Run as administrator’
  4. Log back in to Steam account
  5. Try launching Vermintide 2 as normal

Failing this, as this issue seems to be a Steam-related and Easy Anti-Cheat-related mix, it could also be worth checking that a background application isn’t being flagged incorrectly by EAC. Your friend can try a ‘Selective Startup’ which can help to determine this:

  1. Press the Windows key
  2. Type ‘msconfig’ and select ‘System Configuration’
  3. On the ‘General’ tab, select ‘Selective Startup’
  4. Deselect ‘Load startup Items’
  5. Reboot your PC
  6. Try launching Vermintide 2 as normal

If the error no longer occurs after having performed the Selective Startup, try re-introducing programs one-by-one to determine which is the culprit.

Please let me know how this goes.
