Free the Modifiers

May I ask why you joined this forum then?

I can’t say your pessimism isn’t something I share, but we have seen them listen after enough badgering in some cases.

This is something I care enough about to keep harping on in hopes they choose to change stance on. Just because I know there is a slim chance doesn’t mean I can’t choose to still try.

You do have a choice not to bring nothing of value with comments saying it won’t change so why bother.

Unlocked and loaded crafting update is the easiest way to dispell the notion that Devs don’t listen to angry forum goers.

So I must disagree with the sentiment. The messages do reach them but whether they choose to do anything is another matter.

BIG WALL OF TEXT INCOMING:

You know, I realized something while typing this. I lied to you, about my pessimistic view. It was never about the lack of feedback. What I’m really pissed off was Jan’s message to the CM. The way I see the work of a CM in FatShark is like one of a retail worker. Knowing how awful working in retail is, with each story and moment where the CM’s were belittled by the players for things a game not having an x feature or game having any problem, I got more and more angry at the treatment they are receiving. It’s not about what the players want that bothers me, it’s the way people communicate those needs. I often saw people in Darktide’s playerbase being toxic while demanding things. The moment I saw Jan’s comment, which looking back on, it wasn’t the text that angered me, it was the meme. It portrays the people working at FatShark as incompetent idiots who can’t comprehend feedback. And so it all just boiled over and out of the pot for me.

Now, back when you first pushed back on my remarks, I didn’t precisely understand why I was so angry. So, I tried to justify my anger in a way that sounded rational. But in my attempt to do so, I said that what bothered me was that the devs do not listen to the feedback. After that when other people replied, I felt that I need to continue to push that argument to be consistent with what I said. But now, when I finally understand what really angered me, I cannot keep this act going.

If you look at the posts and comments that I’ve made in the past, you’ll see that I’m actually very positive about the fact how the devs took some of the playerbase’s feedback and implemented it into the game. One of the biggest, for me, is the increase to Crushers HP and in-turn decrease to their spawn rate.

My first ever post on the forums was a big wall of text full of suggestions and feedback on how to fix enemy spam in Darktide. One of my suggestions was to increase the Crushers HP and when Bound by Duty came around I actually felt like my word was being heard. After that update, my opinion on the state of the game, the devs and the CM’s has improved drastically. In turn, I became much more aware about the way I talk to them, but also the way other people talk to them. So I went from knowing about the treatment the CM’s were getting and feeling sorry for them, to actively feeling angry at the players for treating CM’s harshly.

So, to sum it up: I am optimistic that the devs will take our feedback. It’s just that the way some people treat the CM’s (the ones to take said feedback) pisses me off, and it all culminated when I saw Jan’s comment with a meme where he practically calls people at FatSharks idiots.

And that was the reason for my initial response to Jan. Overall, a discourse that could have been avoided were it not for that one meme. A pretty context-sensitive situation, wouldn’t you agree?

Very much so.

I essentially just had this convo in another thread. I don’t begrudge you, like Meatshield, for wanting a more perfect world full of sunshine and kittens. I’m just a pragmatist who’s been around the internet long enough to know this isn’t that world.

And it seems that gamers often lose the plot on the fact that we are customers, not friends with these folks. We can and should be friendly, but it is in no way our responsibility to do their jobs for them or stick up for them when they drop the ball like FS has.

CMs shouldn’t take the brunt of frustration, but that goes with the territory.
And, sorry to be frank here, if someone is taking the role as a CM in the gaming space but can’t shrug off some basement dweller trash talk, I really can’t sympathize. You just can’t let known edgelord behavior affect you like that as a starting point, let alone in your profession. Ban it/them of course, but shutting down completely is just plain silly.

We split hairs when it comes down to degrees of toxicity and, perhaps as a limitation of this textual medium, can argue over meaning and targets of ire. For example, I don’t gather the same conclusion as you from Jan’s meme. I don’t see vaguely insulting nameless, faceless suits/management for making the wrong decision at almost every turn in spite of community (and probably developer) feedback as egregious. In fact, the more the community blames management instead of CMs and devs, the better in my book. I still envision a world where the devs are on our side and the MBAs are the real enemies.

I hope to one day find the success you had with your crusher suggestion for this topic. Congrats on that.

The way I saw it, the meme did not insult the faceless suits/management, but the devs working on the game. I wouldn’t mind if the management would be tho one who takes the blows for the state of Darktide and not the devs who are just implementing features into the game.

Yeah, and with how FatShark not only takes but also looks for feedback (actively going through the discord and forums), I’m pretty positive to see modifiers making a return if not all being implemented into the game itself. We saw it with the moebian 21st showing up in auric, we can see it again.

Also, since the discourse got defused, I wonder what to do with my messages (the ones that talk about “devs not listening”. Should I delete them or add an edit where I clarify things? What do you think? It’s all on your post after all.

Hence what I meant about limitations of the medium. Party Finder was around for a long time with no use until Havoc forced it. Things like that are often seen as a forced decision by some suit that couldn’t admit they made a poor call (without comms to know otherwise). Which is why I see that as blaming a level above devs that just make the thing work mechanically.

That’s why I tried to focus this thread on praise for the work they’re doing with the modifiers and people wanting them back instead of including people shitting on them or that they leave after events, as much as I may want to agree sometimes.

Let’s hope such activity will only increase as time goes by, and new updates introduce more reworks, additions and QOL improvements to the game.

We’ll just have to wait and see. Until then, life goes on.

You could have saved yourself writing a wall of text. You are barking at the wrong tree, and frankly I grow tired of hearing what I meant, intend or think.

There is no hypocrisy or toxicity in me asking for something what many of us believe should have been part of the game design day zero. This is not the first time Darktide community was right about something, and in rare cases Fatshark listened to some of those changes which has improved the player experience and the game itself. This happened by staying vocal, and often repeating ourselves.

For your sake I will make sure to more strictly follow English language decorum standards, to ensure I don’t offend your sensibilities, sir /s

Which limited time event did you enjoy the most?

I really liked them all. They really changed gameplay and helped to keep things fresh. I wish that they would stick around as modifiers, even if only rarely.

Same thing for Dark Rituals. It was such a nice Havoc Lite :trade_mark: with Cap’ns and Bosses spawning around the totems.

Agreed, was really enjoyable.

Weekly rotating major modifiers, you say? Sounds divine.

There are so many unused modifiers now that it doesn’t need to change weekly. The restrictiveness of the main missionboard means that it all modifiers were in rotation then you’d rarely be offered the same ones in succession

For this particular event I would understand it being limited to the event. The cool stuff happens inebwteen missions, not just in the mission.
For the others, it sucks the modifiers are just gone. They could just add them into the auric rotation. But they keep removing them from the game entirely

Similar about Havoc map rotation. Why does it even rotate? Just enable them

So you’re saying you don’t want to just play hounds and snipers for eternity? How dare you! :joy:
