that other 40% is literally poxbursters and muties. 0% of this is I-II-VEG
3 maps melee only
100% horrible system that needs to change or drop some of the other maps and add more maelstroms. but even then, at this rate, will most likely still be hunting grounds simulator smh. change this
Welcome to RNG replacing game design.
there is rng and dogwater. this is dogwater. rng is sometimes, most times, rarely.
but this, for the last couple of 1000 hours has been consistent. NOBODY LIKES HUNTING GROUNDS
as masozi says, youāve got to enjoy the variety of life, and in this case, get fuccd
Since I donāt think FS will allow us to pick missions like in VT2 Iād be happy with 3 Maelstroms on the mission board at a time. But it needs to be set that the missions canāt be the same type and same modifier. Also random order of the modifiers is fine but a modifier should not be repeated until all 13 (currently seen) modifiers havenāt been picked.
Correct me if Iām wrong but I believe the current Auric Maelstrom missions are changing every 60 minutes - so with 3 options you could see all possible modifiers every 4 hours on rotation.
I think itās also worth mentioning that a lot modifiers feel the same or very similar to each other. Almost all of them are shock troop + a wave of either dogs or muties or bursters or all together but they just all feel the same to me. Iād like to see a bit more variety in the challenges in each modifierā¦ or even new and different types of challenges. Here are some of my ideas:
-
A mission modifier where we get only 1 power cell at the start which we need to carry around the whole mission and use it in multiple med stations. You can insert it and remove it from the stations and basically would have only 4 charges that you need to manage throughout the whole mission. Would be more of a heal management challenge.

A modifier inspired by the Twins Hard Mode: No respawns after death. Dead players can leave the mission and still receive some portion of the rewards IF THE TEAM MANAGES TO WIN based on how far they got in the game. There would be 2 checkpoints 1 at 50% of the level (players who die before this donāt receive any reward, who die after this receive 33% of the reward) and second checkpoint would be the start of the endgame - once players enter the last part/arena of the mission (players who die after this receive 66% of the reward). Players who finish the mission also receive a share of the ordo dockets that the dead players didnāt get (example: In Auric D5 the mission reward is 60K dockets per player: 1 player dies at the start (he will get 0), 1 player dies during endgame (he will get 40K) 2 players finish the mission they each get 60K + (50% share [because there are 2 survivors] of the 80K [accumulated unpaid rewards 60K+20K] = 40K)

A modifier that I would just call āNurgleās rotā - mostly infested enemies and monstrosities ('near unlimited hordes of buffed poxwalkers/groaners, small packs of full hp pox hounds - not hunting grounds style, frequent pox bursters - not more than 3 at a time, 4-5 full hp monstrosities in 1 mission). Basically what we saw in that very first dark trailer. The lights can be off or partially off at some parts of the map too. By buffed poxwalkers I meant - increase their speed and attack speed a bit.
Last but not least put books in Measltrom too but rework the reward system so they are worth taking.
the missions are a lil bit longer than an hour which is another problem in itself. u can literally win the same map 3 times. the modifiers feel the same because they literally are.
the experience does not change if ur playing shock troop dogs vs hi int shock troop dogs vs nurgle blessed dogs vs burster and dogs in hi int shock or shock varient. now mix muties in and out of dogs, bursters in hi-int and shock troop AND nurgle blessed varients. this is most likely 70% of the pool. xtra barrels, xtra nades, 20% cdr, green dudes, none of that really changes the fact ur still playing dogs, bursters, muties.
the problem is these modifers. for them to be so frequent, they are horrible. like get creative. literally bring deed modifiers into the reskinned game. send in the next wave would be very welcome. tzeench twins, w/e. the can def do better than this
if anything make a few categories and keep analytics on what ppl are playing. no shot if they make a playlist for dogs and muties and all that junk, ppl will click it. should do maelstroms for monstrous specials. one for ventilation purge/power supply outtage. one for nurgle blessed variants of all kinds. what im trying to say is make different categories and pay attention to what ppl are playing. having one maelstrom with such a shxt pool guarentees theyāre disconnected from what ppl actually want to play. i have a feeling if there were stats on these things, it would look different from what usually comes up now
Completely agree! They are in desperate need of many more modifiers and variety. They had a couple cool modifiers a long time ago (I remember one that was increased mutants and one poxbirsters I think?). Same concept as the hounds but just those. Something as small as that adds to the variety. Iām hoping and expecting the content and variety explodes this year with their āfixing the gameā period coming to an end
And yea the mission last an hour on the board sucks. I played the same map twice in a row couple nights ago. Thereās no excuse for that
Yeah I agree with the rotation being bad it is so annoying to check in on maelstrom and to see huntings grounds AGAIN and donāt get me started on it also rotating to pick the same map.
Not only that but the modifiers themselves are also just super uninspiring, like melee only is a great modifier, monstrous specials too because they change up the way you make your builds and play the map. And then you compare it to having waves of dog, more snipers, bursters or lo and behold more barrels and then you can see the difference in quality and enjoyability between the modifiers.
Thereās also so much potential for good modifiers to be added like reintroducing twin ambush for maelstrom or a nurgleās blessing alternative where enemies can have the effect of a stim, but instead it rolls huntings grounds again .
shoot. imagine the geheimnisnacht halloween skull event in DT. built-in dwons (more horde, more elites, more hp, faster timers everywhere)
vermintide did that in the live realm and it was a W
This game so so so desperately needs new enemies, new enemy skins, new elites/specials etc. I was just thinking that last night actually! Maps arenāt too bad in terms of visual variety anymore (still huge room for improvement though).
Even just change enemy colors, adding weapons to them, clothing, etc would go a long way
a new era with AI will also now continue to ruin it even more.
You would imagine data about the last maps and modifiers would feed into decision making about the new ones? I mean that would be a smart thing to do.
I have more modest wants.
Firstly; do we need 3 level 1 maps in rotation? No. One would suffice for the number of new players actually starting there.
Do we also need 3 level two maps? Again, no.
And repair missions. I think thereās only one? Well I need it to come up more often at T4 and above please as Iāve got to do it another 40 times for my penance unlock
I like map modifiers, I donāt mind dogs, but yeah it comes up way too often. Lights out very rarely.
I have very little amount of hours in VT2 so havenāt experienced the deed modifiers and special events but looked them up now and they sound great (some sound very similar to my suggestions actually). If FS knows they worked well than I donāt understand why they hesitate bringing them over to DTā¦
honestly, whenever I play Auric Quickplay I feel massively disappointed if the modifier is anything else than āHI-STGā
- Plain High Intensity is a snooze-fest
- Dogs is a snooze-fest with dogs
- VP/Sniper is kinda ok but I wish it was a bit harder
I mostly stopped playing Auric Maelstrom because of how repetitive and unoriginal it gets after a few hundred hours.
Itās literally hard scripted to the point that you just know in advance you will bring XYZ build and trivialize this specific map modifier. They should - at least - implement an Auric Maelstrom Quickplay button
I hate how I canāt get the 1-2 vegetable stew brewing when its game time. Feels awful.
seems to be a consensus that the melee only maelstrom modifier is the most fun for most people. Says something about how ranged enemies work in this game and how fun it is to interact with it.
When did this even started?
Like in the Chaoswastes. Khorn domain: Nurgle enemies and rats, Tzeentch domain: Nurgle enemies and rats, Slaanesh domain: Nurgle enemies and rats. Explanation: Everyone else is in the middle of breaking through Balthazar Geltās wallā¦ Of course, Chaos Lords are known to be best buddies and are happy to entrust their domain to other gods. New enemies are, I think, the last thing there will be. In the entire history of Vermintide, we got Beastmen from the WoM DLC (we all know how well they were received) and small Nurglings added to the Halloween events, which served no further purpose outside of their existence as models.
But youād have to be good at copy pasta for thatā¦ when I look at the quality of the copy-pasted skins, it canāt end wellā¦ Joking aside, itās really questionable why so many existing systems from Vermintide werenāt simply taken overā¦ and that doesnāt just apply to the mutators (BtB aside) and the Athanor system.
They spent the majority of last year just putting out performance and balance patches since the initial game released on PC was so incomplete. Patch 13 and beyond really seemed to add more actual content than the previous year combined. Iām hoping that trend continues.
Was that your question? Sorry if I interpreted it wrong
Sry, my comment was pure sarcasm I guess I have to mark that better.
I donāt notice the performance adjustments anyway, as my PC isnāt really up to date and I regularly drop from 60 to 30 FPS (but thatās partly my fault). I would also hardly speak of balance if a small combat knife and a revolver outshine power swords and boltersā¦ But well, just because time was invested here doesnāt mean that it got better as a result. But be that as it may, quarterly content drops (as originally announced) are, I think, wishful thinkingā¦ or extremely underwhelming.
