FPS says 20, but game is a power point. CPU and GPU sitting at 30% fix?

Issue Description (Required):

My game is extremely laggy still. I’ve got MSI Afterburner to see what’s causing it.

Results are that the FPS is saying 20FPS, even though the screen is essentially freezing, but CPU and GPU are only 30% utilized. Is there any fixes for this?

(will also add that even when I’m at 40FPS it feels delayed. The FPS count doesn’t ever seem to reflect what it looks/feels like)

Seen other people with even better PCs than me having the same issue.

I’m experiencing similar issues with my RX 7900 XTX GPU, only achieving around 15 frames per second and no in game audio. The in-game stutter and choppiness make it practically unplayable; I can barely reach the mission terminal. The lack of fluidity in-game motion eventually leads to crashes. I’ve tried lowering graphics settings, disabling mods, verifying files, and even performed a clean reinstall, but nothing has worked. I was about to create my own post until I saw yours. If anyone has a fix, please let me know.

I had this problem. I have fixed it by switching to the experimental build and it should fix your problem. Please see below instructions:

  1. Open the Steam client
  2. Right-click Darktide in your Steam library
  3. Select ‘Properties’
  4. Select ‘Betas’
  5. Enter the password cTYPtKTsfMDsLHAV
  6. Select ‘Check Code’
  7. Select the ‘None’ dropdown, and experimental - Experimental Builds should now be within the list
  8. Select experimental - Experimental Builds
  9. Close the pop-up window
  10. A download should now start

Tried this before and it didn’t work to reduce performance issues.

Might try it again and then uninstall until an optimization patch comes, if it doesn’t work.

I was able to solve my problem, I suspected the culprit was a bad update, and it became evident that this was not a “Darktide” problem but a system problem, because the PC was using the integrated GPU and not the RX 7900 XTX, so I was reaching insanely high frames of 4 FPS.

Anyway, I wasn’t able to sniff out the culprit, but what worked for me was using a system restore point to a time when my PC was running games correctly. It was a purge, lots of innocent files and drivers lost their lives, but the heretic file was found in the end.

P.S I suspect it was a windows update.

Sadly, when I put this PC together it was around the time the Path of Redemption performance issues patch came out.

So on top of having no real reference point for a less laggy period, it could also just be the game.

My old PC had a bit of lag, but nowhere close to this.
