Force Greatsword

Those 4, together. Thoughts?

  • It’s busted.
  • It’s strong, but balanced.

It’s balanced by the fact that you go down in three hits even by basic enemies, unless you play perfectly.

What’s the point of flak though? It oneshots all of the flak enemies with a single heavy attack while Scrier’s on.

Carapace/unyielding are the only perks worth using. 5% crit maybe, but not worth it in my opinion. Psyker has enough crit already, but that 25% Carapace will let you two-shot Crushers consistently with Scrier’s On and some other buffs from teammates.

It’s actually one of the strongest builds for Psyker even in Havoc 40, but requires insanely good positioning and target priority. Also bringing Wrath for horde clear. I’ve tried playing it a couple of times with a good random team, but I don’t remember if we managed to beat the mission. You miss one attack by Dreg Bruiser or somebody hits you from behind, you lose half of HP.

So I wouldn’t advise using it without VOC/Relic on your team. Too much pressure.

Had this run a few weeks ago on auric though ^ 15 damage taken, while having top melee elite kills.

That’s definitely a risk when you put it that way. I stick to Auric, haven’t tried GS on Havoc.

I’ll give Unyielding a try. Carapace on Damnation really isn’t an issue, Push/Stab on headshot followed by an overhead usually does the trick on Crushers.

Usually I throw on Flak for the light horizantal attacks against hordes, Scab Ragers and Mauler weakspots for push/stabs.

Sad, but on havoc 40 its no use(

It’s definitely useful, but too risky to play, especially with randoms.

I wish there was some kind of a talent for Scrier’s Gaze that buffed Psyker’s survivability drastically, but debuffed their ranged damage to the point where you have to use it for melee-only builds

Something like +50% damage reduction while Scrier’s is on, but -50% ranged damage at all times (even without Scrier’s).

It’s not op, i played with this, gotta be honest, regular force swords stronger, the only advantage great sword has, is horde clear and you really need warp splitting on top of. Also warp speed not needed if you use disrupt destiny.

Its not the case. What that build provide to others? Gold tougness? Maybe ammo?

It provides meme material. Isn’t it enough?

It’s probably better with knife or Dueling Sword… but the rare cases i see a psyker zooming like a race car around map it feels like hacking in a power speed boost in such a weird way i usually just leave and find a normal group.

Usually after i notice them zooming past me dragging enemies then when cleared zoom ahead once more. It may not kill balance in the traditional way but it kills joy to others.

Warp Speed? It’s hardly a massive synergy. Crit based Gaze melee Psyker is basically: Mettle, One With the Warp, Empathic Evasion and DD. Everything else is a matter of personal preference. Riposte on a Force Sword of your choice and you are set.

That takes far more from you to stay alive in melee than zealot or Ogryn. It can be very satisfying and mobile, without the abuse of the usual suspects: knives and DS Mk IV.

The 3 Talents I listed all reduce Greatswords biggest drawback - lack of mobility. With all 3 active at the same time, the drawback is hardly noticeable at all.

With Gaze active I’m usually fighting, not sprinting around, Mettle and DD movement speed buffs are enough for me, even with a GS. If Warp Speed makes it work for you, then enjoy.

Yeah it’s nice to pop Scrier’s and close the gap quickly, but you make a good point. I switched Warp Speed for Crack of Bone and it’s even better.

Wrath works fine in place of Warp Splitting too

Yeah, those two weapons with the three talents I listed are absolutely cracked. It really does feel like hacking the game.

It’s balanced until you realize it trivializes other weapon classes by virtue of being a sword that does top horde clear, top mixed elite clear, good armor pen and good stagger all with an excellent moveset including great horizontal swing patterns and stabs.
Being a “class cannon” doesn’t justify the weapons blatantly outperforming others and being better versions of them. This is the same reasoning that led people to erroneously say that dueling swords were balanced on Psyker. They’re not, and if you believe that you just aren’t as good at the game as you think you are.

PS: You really aren’t much of a “glass cannon” if you have an infinite aoe staggering beast staff or a ranged immunity aoe clear staff or your choice of super high mobility ranged, it’s a faulty premise

The stagger on the special attack especially is so dumb. Staggers everything even unpowered

GS stagger is too strong I agree, it shouldn’t stagger Crushers and Maulers the way it does currently. Ragers, Shotgunners, Gunners, it’s fine.

I think it should also have a concession in terms of armor damage and single target damage. It just doesn’t make a lot of sense that a cleave centric sword weapon kills armor and singletarget at the same level as a combat axe, a weapon which gives up a LOT to have good armor pen single target.
Or compare to the heavy sword, which pretty much only has slightly better mobility but otherwise has slightly worse horde clear, slightly worse mixed elite killing, slightly worse single target, EXTREMELY worse armor pen. And the heavy sword is EXCELLENT, I love it. Fantastic wep. But totally outclassed. Powercreep in a nutshell. Just one example of it, look also to the chainaxe for a more direct comparison.

Weapons in darktide should go back to having weak points. Mobility is a compelling weak point but it’s not enough of a tradeoff here unless it’s dumpstered like with the ogryn shield. Weps having weaknesses just makes for more compelling buildcrafting and pairing with other weapons. When I use a force GS I don’t even really think about what ranged I care about because it just does everything anyway.

Said this back in February:

Ok so not quite “it ruins the game”… yet!

It can take time for people to realise how good a weapon is. There are other weapons people are sleeping on too, sometimes you just need the practice and/or the right build.
