Fix audio cues

Please can we get the audio cues fixed.

I was on my 10th auric mission in a row without dying (doing the penance). About 3/4 of the way through.

Silent burster suddenly behind me. No enemies near me so there wasn’t any loud noises and easy to distinguish the surrounding area. Definitely no approaching burster. Then out of nowhere the detonation sound and boom - I’m 1000m off the ledge. Blink of an eye and it’s over because of a ****ing bug.

Awesome. All that effort for nothing. Absolutely deflated.

Fix the silent enemies. Fml.

Could it be because the game engine is tracking the audio of each member of the hordes and has on,y so many audio channels to track it all?

Why would the AI spawn a burster so close to you?

I would say that silent enemies are more of the inconsistency issue.

Sometimes I would hear NOTHING but the Pox Buster running somewhere within 50 meters radious, and sometimes the Crusher will sneak up on me (devious fella)

So, it works fine most of the time, but sometimes it get wonky :person_shrugging:

I’m not sure the buster spawned there but maybe ran up in silence and only the High-pitch fast beeping (about to explode indicator) sound played when it was already jumping next to me.

A silent trapper also got me earlier on in that game too.

Definitely inconsistent. That’s the most infuriating part.

Especially how it happened just as I was about to get the penance. Was an absolute gut punch. Had been totally smashing it that round too. Barely took any damage despite some intense battles. Ho hum. Start from scratch again :man_facepalming:

FS just need a complete listing of things to look into for performance related settings in Windows that can impact Darktide for people to look into or test changing them.

Darktide has ability to upload crash logs. No ability to log performance related issues such as stuttering of audio or screen mini freezes.

It would save alot of time.

The shadow shuriken mutants are pretty consistent from me. When there are 2 mutant coming right at you, you’ll only hear the first one and not the second, making the second impossible to dodge based on sound.

From what I’ve heard, this is a problem that is inherent to the engine. Meaning there is no real fix for it.

The best thing that could be done is to return to a version of Darktide that has fewer (but stronger) specials/elites. The game seemed to cope better back when it wasn’t required to spit out so many of them.

I think this is the case, there are a lot of sounds happening in the game and computers can’t just handle them all. FS supposedly has an algorithm in place to determine which sounds are higher priority than others and play those louder, but for whatever reason it’s been bricked since a little bit before Path of Redemption.

As for why the director would spawn a burster so close, it’s because the God-Emperor of Mankind hates us, and wants nothing more than to punish you for literally no reason.

Steam verify - Guess this isn’t enough. I always assumed that is enough and not have to reinstall.

Even tried the game launcher “Verify files”

I re-installed entire game then audio stutter and mini freezes went away. Played several games to be sure. I am very sure at some point some update will change this.

Basically I wasted my time searching for stutter fixes on reddit/steam forum/discord and creating list of what to go through (below) for nothing.

I’ve never had to re-install VT2 to fix something. Never had to re-install any game actually to fix something.

Darktide files are simply getting corrupted somehow and no mechanism to self-repair. Steam verify and game launcher verify did not resolve in this case.

  • Nvidia. Clear shader cache by disabling, reboot and re-enable to default, then 10GB to test
  • Nvidia. DDU clean re-install of drivers.
  • Nvidia. Tried previous drivers including Nvidia reddit community’s feedback of 537.58 most stable
  • Nvidia. Reset GPU to default instead of underclocking
  • Nvidia. PhysX set to GPU and not auto
  • Nvidia. Gysnc off, Vsync off, DLSS off, Frame generation off. Prefer to run over monitor refresh rate limit for lower latency.
  • Go fullscreen instead of borderless
  • Tried without mods
  • Zero background apps. I use onboard memory and delete SteelSeries, Razer, Logitech software.
  • Disable XMP for RAM
  • chkdsk and sfc /scannow
  • Test with worker threads from low to high
  • Test with CPU affinity set to physical cores
  • Put everything on lowest graphics to push FPS to 350FPS in case stuttering was frame drops. MSI afterburner overlay shows not hardware requirement bottleneck issue. Low temps and no where near full utilisation for CPU/GPU.
  • I saw on reddit someone playing with changing 1000hz to lower poll rate for mouse/keyboard to fix.
  • Check GPU scheduling enabled
  • Check Resizable BAR enabled
  • Disabled Exploit Protection (CFG) and VMP as recommended by Microsoft for gaming.
  • Whitelisted steam game folder and even to extent of disabling Windows Defender and Windows Firewall completely.

You’re very lucky, then. Or you haven’t bought as many games as I have :stuck_out_tongue:

I didn’t know those were all things, but I don’t imagine that this game is unique in having so many fixes. I know one game that I hard particular problems with: Anno 1800. THere was a solid six months that in spite of trying everything (except for a complete hard drive wipe) where it just wouldn’t launch. It’d crash to desktop, regardless of previous update/settings/etc. …

But then… One day… I got in!
