Female and male models - no difference at all

Okay, this is one of those topics I don’t really care to talk about due to, well, some people getting squirrely about gender anything.

But it’s not about ‘oh you just want all the women to be unrealistically attractive’. I don’t really complain about the faces, for instance (the hair is another thing but it’s mostly a meme at this point).

It’s more I think that a game that makes such a big deal about customizing your reject really should give you good options for that customization. And what we’re given is just lazy.

This, this and this

when you sell something at THIS PRICE (outrageous price if you ask me) at least, at the very least, the product should be good and not just acceptable.

You can’t argue about the game… my god, read this forum. 2 years we wait they finish the crafting system… 2 years several weapons variant are NOT released. This is not something that will slow the released new content… lot of future new content is ALREADY ready (but may need adjustments or balance).
And as several said, no, the one that is fixing bug is not the one that is working on cosmetics. And I suspect that, yes, this is not FS that create them (or they should be ashamed by the poor quality of models due to clipping issues and what I point here).

Yeah for real It’s so stupid and lazy that there isn’t female models on the skins.
they aren’t that cheep for digital pixels and the overhead on making female versions can’t be that much when reselling the same slop with diffrent colors or that horrible wallpaper print
It must be possible to not just make every skin male.

Reminds me of that Ubisoft BS when they said it was to expensive to make female models.

I know that its not your point
I think both left are female, they are obviously more skinny, when comparing side by side like this

Male and female… hands show which one is male… but torso, for sure is the same.

Keep it androgynous.

No one (should) complain.

you’re oversimplifying what the issue is. females and males have different forms, and seeing as how fatshark is monetizing tf out of the cosmetics, there should be a noticeable difference.

personally, i like knowing that my character looks good, and yes, it does matter for a lot of people, too. that’s why there are countless posts on here and reddit about just their characters’ looks, and why the term “driptide” exists. knowing your character looks good adds fun to the game. unlocking an outfit and/or getting a weapon skin makes people want to play it so they can show it off.

just because YOU don’t care about it doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be addressed lol

Yes it does.

I have… well. Mixed feelings about this whole issue tbh.

Most armor, like the one in OP, would look about the same regardless. The only difference really would be size & height maybe. And most armor in the game by far is large enough to hide most body proportions anyway. Remember we’re not talking about regular people from today, the women & men in Darktide are buff & built for combat.

But there are some costumes where I find this an issue, like the vet’s prison garb tanktop thing. Someone posted pictures showing that it’s literally the same model for both a while back, one just a bit smaller than the other. Not a huge issue on its own, but it is when we can literally see the underwear model sometimes so it’s so obvious that the tanktop doesn’t go on the same body but is really just a full torso replacement. Combine this with our ridiculously lackluster face & hair style options and it’s definitely annoying. :slightly_frowning_face:

But this is why the mixed feelings.

On one hand, I’d much rather take what we have here than yet another over-sexualization garbage.

On the other, why the heck is the male model the default yet again? If we’re talking equality, making us look the same as men seriously isn’t doing it for me. And why the heck are men the default and #1 choice in every single UI, database, gender/sex selection system etc. anyway? As if that wasn’t a fantastic example of our cultural & unconscious bias. I think it would be a far better statement if they did the opposite and went with women as the default for once.

Anyway the issue here comes down to one thing: choice. You’re free to look at literally any game popular with women with customization options. You’ll see most of us actually want to look good, but on OUR terms, in a way WE want & like. Men making women over-sexualized is bs, obviously. Men making women look like men? It might be better, but it’s still men making the choice for us, for everyone of any gender. It’s still the same problem! The only difference is in degree.

I know it’s not this simple with game design, artistic style etc. and all. Few games actually have a robust character creation with tons of customization options for anyone. And all in all, Fatshark has done things far better with Darktide than many others. But still.

But what really annoys me is how this whole subject no matter the game is so permeated with incels that I feel dirty even talking about it, nevermind seemingly taking their side (which I’m not). So after everything is said and done, I’d much rather take what we have here than the other thing. … Even if I seriously want more and prettier faces & just a whole lot more hairstyles than we have.

I don’t think anyone is arguing to have giant breasts and barbie-esque proportions.

It’s just that the male and female body types should be distinguishable, just like in real life.

See female ufc fighters - very ready for combat, built tough, large muscle mass (proportionally) but still instantly recognisable as a female.

Whilst things like armour chest plates would be the same for both sexes on many armours, things like shoulder and rib broadness, should be noticeably different. How the armour fits would be different.

They are clearly just using the same male torso (shoulders and all) which looks silly and is quite insulting for seriously expensive premium garb. It’s lazy and cheap.

I get what you are saying and fully agree about sexualisation but I really don’t think that’s what anyone is asking for in this particular case. I don’t want sexualised woman on the battlefield either - but I do want them to look like realistic human beings.

Okay, I’m not being biased here, but the torso also looks different to me.
again I would never noticed it without comparing side by side like that.

I agree with this… I don’t want a bimbo, I don’t even ask for an advanced character customisation screen like we can see in a lot of games… I just want to have a female model for my female character cause I have paid like 20€ for this numeric item.
And maybe that will look strange to several here, but I consider that, at this price, they have to deliver something that is worth the price. This is not what we have actually. There is no female model.
And worse, we cannot even change our gender.

Which would reflect our real world but shouldn’t. Any fighting force deploying female warriors and expecting them to perform well in combat should field female body armor.
And I‘m not talking about Adepta Sororitas style molded breasts but effective armor that still leaves room for the wearers breasts.
I served with women who regularly complained during combat and shooting exercises that the standard (male) armor plates made the motions required very uncomfortable or even painful - or just slower because additional motions were required to get their breasts out of the way.
The sad thing: female armor plates exist but due to costs involved the armed forces decided to not aquire them.

Yeah I was thinking more the giant metal plate armour on the zealots but yes you’re right there would have to be differences on many of the armour types.

Moulded breasts on armour always makes me laugh. It’s so absurd and super dangerous…as it can direct a blow into the center (and thus heart) which defies all logic for an armour :joy:

If we are to contemplate practicality of armours, we can’t forget that wh40k world is grotesque parody.
98% of armours and armour-coded cloths don’t make sense. Have you seen those pauldrons of their flag SM? Absolutly unusable. Even on Darktide most of those garments aren’t battlefield worthy. Not to mention general lack of headgears.

Feminine breastplates are nothing compared to all this absurdity.

Funny thing is the female model could be cleared up easily on this armor, if the artist would take the time to make 2 different models instead of just very small adjustments.

  • The area around the waistline is already a bit more pronounced on the female version and would just need a bit more.
  • Fix the wide shoulders so it reads more feminine, seems on the right are bit far off. Adjust the shoulder pad as well.
  • Either move the belt running through the bust line or make the area more rounded (buckle going right into the side of the breast would probably hurt a lot).
  • Push the upper part of the pants a bit more to pronounce hips/hip line (the widest area below the butt)

It wouldn’t take a whole lot more for it to easily read as female proportions without going overboard.

The reason I’m not buying armor skins is exactly the problems outlined by @Ralendil. Apart from the overall abysmal quality of most cosmetics the female versions (and the female body model in general) is just an afterthought.

Fat shark has some pretty expensive models for their MTX store, would be nice if the quality of them is reflective of their price.

I have gotten some mileage out of it, that i wouldn’t have otherwise. Meaning i didn’t care to play the game until last patch. It only lasted like 2 weeks for me though.

As for male\female models… imagine them trying to fix the various clipping bugs on two different sets of models, when they can barely do it on one.
