Fatshark's Silence is Deafening

As far as I’m concerned, it’s ok to be angry at some of the choices they have made prior to release. Like, having multiple stacked layers of RNG turn getting the gear you want into an absurd lottery should have never made it past the concept stage. This is literally what scuttled Anthem, and the entire industry got gun-shy after that but hasn’t learned a damn thing apparently.

But I can’t be mad at the fact that it takes time to fix these things. Of course it does. There are a lot of quick fixes that I would love to see, but I’m not going to blame them for not being able to just snap their fingers and instantly having a perfect system.

I think i would rather be angry about the fact that these RNG systems were implemented at all.

'The Sharks are back in the tank! Update soon!

one week later

‘The Sharks are getting settled in! Update soon!’

If you guys need to sit down and have a big heart-to-heart about what ‘fun’ is could you actually communicate something that isn’t lip service nothing? In a month you’ve contributed nothing but ‘the developers are still working on the game’. Like is that not the bare minimum we should hope for a month later? WHAT are they doing? WHAT is the timeline? Those are actual tangible bits of knowledge that might accomplish something other than irritatation.

Right, that’s the whole point of my post. It’s OK to be angry that they put in this massive stinker of a system in the first place, but it doesn’t help to be angry at the amount of time it takes to fix it.

Thank you. I believe this is basically what most people wanted to hear.

I do hope there will be more explanations, but that will depend on the future announcements.

Not to be harsh but… What I read is…
“Until now we have not yet started to work on fixing / adding things to the game. We will know decide what to do.”

I really hope this is not that… As said by lot of people, fatshark promised to release crafting system in december… And you have even fixed the year, it was 2022.
Minus the perk locked with the refine option, I think the system described can bring enough customization. So, please, now release it.

A fix for the cash shop should be put in game. Not something difficult. You can make it refresh when you buy something or better after a mission like it has been suggested.
I really hope we won’t get an announcement to say us that fatshark did not start working on darktide and just decided now what they will work on… It would really be a deception.

The thing that’s slowly driving me and much of the community up the wall is that these same issues have been repeatedly raised since the pre-order beta (and frankly many of us were raising the issue during the closed beta too).

It’s mind boggling that the conversations haven’t been happening with the relevant parties this whole time, so that we could actually get a communication about what specifically is being looked at in a timely manner. They’ve had nearly two months. The problems are NOT rocket science to figure out or solve.

Which all makes me thinks there is a political or “perceived PR” reason for not being more forthcoming (EDIT: for example, “we’re incapable of admitting to making mistakes”).

It’s kind of absurd that FS needs to sit down and discuss the feedback. How could they not have seen this coming? The hourly RNG store is obviously a horrible idea, and any dev that worked on it or any connected system should have realized this five minutes after seeing the concept of it. How did it get past the concept stage? It would be mind boggling if even a single dev didn’t realize how bad it was. That the entire studio failed to see how patently and obviously bad it was, especially combined with power budgets and hundreds of trash perks and trash blessings, is beyond belief.

Similarly the RNG mission select is also an idea that is beyond dumb, and should have been killed five minutes after it was first mentioned as a concept. Again, seemingly 80+ people failed to realize something that is glaringly obvious.

The real peach here though, is that after designing this obviously bad RNG store of a system, they go ahead and start developing a crafting system that removes none of the RNG. How is it possible that absolutely no one understood how incredibly dumb these systems were?

It isn’t possible. That’s the problem. There is no way I can bring myself to believe that not a single soul among 80+ people realized they were designing the worst possible systems. Which means it was all done intentionally, maliciously, to play on mobile gacha systems and fake player retention, hoping they could force people to keep logging in with bad systems, rather than keep players with good gameplay.

A studio capable of doing something like this rightly deserves absolutely zero trust. After having intentionally designed all these systems, they are somehow surprised at the feedback, and are having discussions on how to ‘fix’ things that never should have been released in the first place. I can only imagine whatever fixes they come up with will be incredibly minor, so they can keep their malicious ‘design intent’ in place as much as possible.

I wonder how much of this is due to Fatshark’s change in structure from an in house team to now being managed by Tencent. I imagine that previously any discussions of changes would be internal and relatively quick in their execution, whereas now an additional outside party is required to also look over any proposal and presumably give it their input and go ahead.

THAT!

And no print it out and put it on the desk’s of everybody that has to say something located in FS offices Stockholm

This is a great list, would go SO far in alleviating the cramps most players have been having with this release.
Let the players decide how they want to play and reward them for achieving challenging things, that’s it.
This is why DRG has had so much success and why people on these forums continuously reference it.
The formula works, no need to reinvent anything.

Laughs in 97%

OK joking aside Fatshark has nobody to blame but themselves. I want to believe that the programmers are trying their best and I know how hard it can be to code sometimes with deadlines and whatnot.
But the lead team on Fatshark? How are they still employed? The decisions they’ve made are dreadful for the brand and the company.
Case and point? The current crapstorm happening right now ^^

Or give us the ability to upgrade the item’s bar stats over time so that if you find an item with perfect perks and blessings there isn’t a 99.9% chance of it being ruined by poor stats.

I didn’t list it, because it was getting into the weeds, but IMHO Darktide needs a meaningful “end game” which could be a few different components, as such:

(1) Each time you complete a mission on a character after level 30, you get a token depending on the difficulty you played (Difficulty 1-3 = 1 value token, heresy = 2 value, damnation = 3 value, or something like that).

(2) Each time you level up after level 30, you get a commendation token, perhaps with a value of 2, and goes into the token pool above.

(3) Tokens can be used for one of the following: Boosting a primary stat on an item you like (e.g. damnation token could give a +3% bonus to a stat, capping out at 100) OR converted to Aquillas (e.g. a damnation token could give 3 aquillas). This would let you eventually unlock premium cosmetics through play.

(4) Provide some X-missions played on Y-difficulty penances with cosmetic rewards. An awesome set of clothes for playing 50 missions on heresy+ with a particular class would keep people chasing the nice cosmetics by just playing.

(5) Provide rare/unique/glowey weapon cosmetics that only show up as emperor rewards on Heresy+ difficulty. Like the red skins from VT2.

All of the above would do a lot to give something for players to grind for by actually PLAYING as an endgame.

Yea, just being able to drop +1% on a stat of your choice on an item after leveling up once past 30 would instantly create a predictable incentive for long term play that currently just doesn’t exist.

I think a Fair system would be able to let players spend Ordo Dockets on weapons or curios of their choosing . Then have the items themselves be rolled randomly when bought. I think Fat Shark had to implement a RNG system to time-gate things. Another thing to keep in mind is in the future Fat Shark will add more items.

If they keep this system as it is now and they add more weapons into the shop that just means even more bad RNG in the shop to get that so called “New Weapon” Because all players want to try out that new weapon.

Example:
Make it so the armory lists all the melee weapons/ range weapons of that class and then they can buy that item with randomized traits and base. At least this will give the player’s agency on what they want instead of everything being RNG.

Maybe like 15k or 20k for weapons and 8k or 10k for Curios? There are players with over 2 mil dockets. This system would at least have a currency dump and reward the players who grinds a lot.

With the perk’s system. Should allow players to re-roll both perks and make the cost somewhat cheap of re-rolling them. That will allow the lower tier perks to still be used. Like the 20%-25% and 8%-10% dmg stuff.

IDK about blessings yet as it’s not release yet, but I certainly hope they do not have it like the perk system now where it locks one of them. That would be most disappointing.

Fret not, fellas! They’re havin’ a chat!

Everything’s going to be A-OK!

Holy mackerel! What a developer!

I fully believe you man… Which is why I hate that kind of culture when it appears in the Corporate Structure. It’s the same at the company I work at.

Let me help you with that, Aqshy :

Change the “design intent”.

I see you’re looking for an Agile Team Leader, but I recommend using the WSJF (weighted shortest job first) method to make the decisions if you’re not doing it yet. Gives you an idea of how to organize your development to release as much value as fast as possible.

I think you’ll end up with a list along the lines of

  • map selection
  • shop
  • crafting
  • penances
  • classes

Would you kindly involve your community in these discussions.
