I suppose it needs to be explained to them why their favorite weapon was their favorite and that power creep is bad, also when “it’s a pve game bro”.
“Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that”
edit - As an addendum here, and think of how often you yourself have had stupid moments. We all do it.
peoples favourite weapon hmm why is that.
Is it how it looks? Maybe a little but i think its more because of how it works. I mean who buys a Warhammer 40k game to use a duelling sword right… the problem is not just how good duelling sword is its how bad the other options are.
You’re half right. People love it because it’s brain dead easy and effective. For a studio that delivers deep, mechanically complex melee combat, the dueling sword is a massive outlier. It existing in its current state makes all other weapons feel bad in comparison to it. It’s not the first outlier, it won’t be the last.
People always gravitate to what’s easy and feels good - but this is a game, above Malice, that is about challenge and overcoming that challenge. Having a crutch like the dueling sword warps people’s perspective and cheapens that challenge. People roll off the game faster because they get bored with how easy it is - and they don’t need to be the ones using the Dueling Sword to have their challenge lowered in a given match. Elodie had a few good points earlier:
Many players don’t put the time in to understand weapons they don’t like off the bat, and fail to understand how strong they truly are. When you have something like the Dueling Sword out there, there’s no reason to use or learn anything else.
this community always makes me laugh a bit when ever there is a conversation about something like this it goes the same way. That quote where the person tries to conflate the word “fun” with “abuse” its a great example.
There is a hostile core to this community and the devs listen to you all way too much…
thats why this happend.
The problem is how obscene the duelling sword is
at the moment, in the past it was something else in the future it will be something else again lol and on and on…
There will always be something i bet.
Yes, Darktide’s playerbase numbers are for sure because of the community (when vast majority of the playerbase doesn’t interact with forums, Discord and other platforms) and not Fatshark’s management of the game
Yep. That’s also probably something @FatsharkStrawHat should include in the potential blog post - outliers always will exist, and will be managed over time. The Powersword is the last one I recall, but I took a solid year off from the game so I am sure I missed a few.
you guys are all thats left now if it wasnt for those stupid people the other guy mentioned who try to play the game on a console that can hardly run it with a joypad (lol) you lot would have trouble filling games.
I bet you hate them too imagine trying to play this game on a joypad smh… cut them some slack if you can i bet its a total mission.
I’ve already seen some hate towards the nubs in auric atm since most of whats left of you lot are all in havok
It’s not hostility, it’s fact. The statement is also laced with irony. Which I even blatantly hinted at.
But since you want to misrepresent my stance I will spell it out.
We all have bad takes, we all make stupid decisions.
Saying the DS is not so far past the point of being fun and into the realm of silly is one of those bad takes.
This does not mean people can’t have fun with silly, but seeing as this game is not balanced around silly, reigning in the silly would be a faster fix than making everything else silly.
***This includes improving the weapons that are on the opposite side of the spectrum and suck @ss.
If this was true this thread wouldn’t exist.
No, because not everyone has the same idea of fun. If the game was silly from the start it wouldn’t matter, people who don’t like silly would just not have kept playing the game.
But that’s not how it was designed and that is not likely the opinion of the majority of players that are keeping the game afloat.
It was
…and from the start people like you guys have done things like this about everything you didnt like
Im not going to list them off for you but there has been “balance” argument in darktide since day1
where has it got you?
People use the ds4 because it requires little actual player skill, and trivialises elites and bosses, if every weapon was as strong, we’d need elites with rather significantly more HP
As @Goare said, there will be outliers and they will be addressed as needed
Because you can’t. The game was never so silly that every single weapon turned the game into an AI stomp. There were outliers then, some were addressed, and now it is DS’ turn.
It’s only just now seeing so much attention because the rest of the playerbase that doesn’t play Psyker just realized how strong it always has been.
Balance will likely never be perfect, it is something to strive for.
edit - this goes both ways. e.g. my post above, Tac axes are woefully by the wayside currently.
Before the duelling sword panic began, we were getting close to a consensus that extremely high mobility weapons were performing far too well, particularly on the zealot.
But priorities, I guess.
There will always be somthin
True but the dream is to get things to a point where its not too crazy in terms of outliers. Anything too crappy or too powerful just needs to be adjusted, gradually and carefully.
I think the only real problem we’ll face is the glacial pace. For example, the Autopistol was butchered with nerfs back in year one of the game. Its only being buffed again now.
I mean consider this. We’re getting a big Ogryn patch right? Whole bunch of buffs and new talents. Yet there is a post on here, already, detailing a bunch of severely underperforming weapons for the Ogryn that won’t even be remotely affected by this patch. Can you see Fatshark investing more time into the Ogryn within the next year? Two years? Based on what we’ve seen so far, I guess its tough luck for those weapons ayyy?
I can, but that’s due to staff shifts. Matteo (he wrote the devblog for the FGS, RB and new Hstubbers) has been very productive since he started as a weapon designer.
