Thank you for your post. I love Ogryn, Ogryn players, and playing him also.

Since we can’t seem to think outside the Orgryn=heavy attacks, what if, EVERY melee attack from an Ogryn was a heavy attack? Does an Ogryn look like someone that would do anything in a “light” manner lol especially hitting things. light attacks count as heavies same as smacking things with the kickback or rumbler (stacking bleeds)

heavy attacks are too cumbersome and at high difficulty I switched off of thrust on the branx because It wasn’t of value 99% of the time and it works good on crushers and bosses anyway

I hope you’re also seeing some of the discussion about Ogryn losing his stagger niche. A lot of weapon specials are a shadow of their former self. Big guy doesn’t need the highest melee DPS but he should feel like a GIANT BULLY smacking the puny heretics around.

For me this is by far the main part of the Ogryn fantasy that has been lost.

It’s pretty appalling that a dueling sword doing a flick motion can stagger what an ogryn punch can’t. I don’t understand the balance intent, nor how it makes sense stylistically.

Hear hear (obviously), where’s @MarxistDictator when you need him.

A super quick poke that chains into a DS heavy no less, imagine if the pick hook could chain like that.

I’d wager dollars to donuts it’s not intentional (I may be stating the obvious here), just another in-a-vacuum setting and adjustment, just like the ogryn staggers in general and the subsequent boosts to mob stagger thresholds.
A ripper bayonet poke hasn’t staggered a crusher in what, 6 months now? It kinda breaks the weapon for can-opener among the other drive-by victims.

The knife punch still works fine because it goes off stagger reduction like that poke. Because the shovel punch and the bully club slap use explosive stagger profiles (so they can work on bosses when the devs feel like letting us do it) they have been made almost useless against ogryns. Because blablah you stagger them they come back with stagger resistance for like 10s. Big big problem, really needs a fix! And let me slap the chaos spawn around if I can do it with the shovel punch.

Personally I’m all for boss stagger coming back as a balancing method for otherwise subpar weapons. Like I’m fine with them otherwise leaving clubs as they are if I can slap around Plogryns and Chaos Spawns again.

Of course I appreciate this is one of the more contentious suggestions, plenty of people seem happy boss stagger is gone but personally I think it’s a cool niche for a weapon to have as payment for lacking in other areas.

it was broken when you didn’t have to do any setup and the bosses had no recovery periods. but now that plogryn and burgle do I don’t see why it can’t work on them. and the slap not working while the punch does is apparently a bug and they meant to give us it back on both, but whether we’ll get this between now and the actual 41st millennium is anyone’s guess (see power activation bug for more info)

Yeah, but I hate it: heavy attack → block → heavy attack → block → heavy attack etc…

Might as well ditch the right hand part of it.

Anyway, can we talk about the ults? One is the rush which can be helpful, but if you use it offensively, suddenly you are out of coherency, all alone and surrounded. Sure you can fight whatever you got in the middle of, but specials will get you.

Then there’s the taunt, which is good because it gives your team space and breaks AI. But I can’t help but think of V2 Ironbreaker, where blocking would consume no stamina for some time and there was a synergy with enemies taking more damage after striking the shield.

There’s the gun one, but why would I play gun Ogryn if I can play Veteran?

You’re a good man, and I’ll try not to be.
However, after multiple hotfixes, the Ogryn has still received no attention or even a mention. I do believe that the big man will be left in a weakened state for many months to come.

@Reginald made a video on this just now:

I think he’s putting out good points and it’s well thought out. I like the suggestions he makes because they’re adding onto “what can Ogryn do” and not necessarily “how good can Ogryn do it”. He doesn’t need his maximum powerlevel increased, he needs versatility and counterplay to situations that other classes have counterplay to but he doesn’t, and the suggestions Reginald puts out here fit the bill. Sideways buffs if that makes sense. Stuff like trampling small enemies would be potentially great (although I’ve no idea if that wouldn’t just be too strong, it’s hard to say how that would affect the game without seeing it in action). If talents actually did things like this I wouldn’t feel terrible about the Ogryn tree.
Buffing his underperforming weps like the power maul that could be great fun but are just too clunky and bad right now is also a huge part of digging Ogryn out of his “I have one viable build” hole, but I also think he needs more weapons on top of that anyway. Heavy stubber was genuinely a great addition because it opened up gameplay avenues he simply didn’t have before.
Also, his point that his talents actually limit his weapon variety is very true. Which ranged weps actually get used on gunlugger builds? The ones that shoot fast cause all his talents scale better with shooting fast. Which melee weps actually get used on melee builds? The ones with the best heavy pattern because all his talents want him to heavy and that’s it.

The only notion in there that I think is potentially a bad idea would be making Ogryn faster in general. Part of what makes him fun to me is that he’s lumbering and slow, partially cause Ogryns are not just big but also really slow witted, they do have that Ogre part in there. Although this is one of those things where if they added an actual fast weapon it would open up the option and again add more variety. Like just add brass knux already, cmon. It can be the Ogryn equivalent of a combat knife, mobility wise.

The squeaking noise made me almost spit on my screen, which is a pain to clean so thanks for that @Reginald .

Can’t really disagree with anything suggested in the vid, sensible stuff.
There have been a lot of versatility suggestions in the past rather than straight up power increases, nice to see the video mention many. I like the DRG “Iron Will” death resist-ish mechanic.

I just think it’s hilarious (in a sad way) that all the little nerf-chickens throughout the last many months have finally come home to roost, and people finally noticed. Most recently some of the gunner tweaks seem to dis-proportionally hurt Biggie the most.

Many of us love our sweet brute, but holy does it feel bad being the red-headed step-child of DT, nice to see more people chime in.

No, I’m not a good person. I get annoyed way too easily, haha.
Especially because, just like you said, the Ogryn bugs haven’t been fixed in the hotfixes and likely won’t be fixed anytime soon. They’re probably entirely out of focus.

Even when abilities don’t trigger, when dodging still gets you grabbed by a Mutant, or when you can’t climb over ledges—they just leave it as it is and do nothing about it.

I, too, am extremely frustrated and utterly exhausted with Fatshark, but I said what I did because the community manager is the one who communicates and relays our concerns to the team.

this trumps any other ogryn build

Still feels so wrong to me that ogryns can get completely stuck when surrounded by the puny horde enemies.

Try to charge in, and then run back to the team - sorry you can’t, wouldn’t want to step on those poor heretics lying confused on the floor…
Letting ogryn push past enemies staggered/effected by the charge would be a huge boost in making him feel better to play.

Also wild how much weaker ogryn strikes feels compared to every other operative class.

Almost all the builds Ogryn can go with feel near identical in playstyle, only difference is Gungryn and purely because he’s hugging his gun too much.

The Ogryn problems only continues with the weapon blessings.
Why does Ogryn have so crit-related blessings on so many weapons, when he has no way of getting consistent crits?

  • On Shield you’d have a whooping 8% chance (+/- 1%) of getting a critical hit WITH a critical chance perk. It’s so stupid. Perfect Strike feels so utterly misplaced.
  • On the Cleaver you have Bash giving 15% crit chance for 3 seconds on pushing enemies, which just feels bad, when you could just have consistent high damage - and why does Devastating Strike even exist? 8-20% chance of maybe getting more cleave - or just pick Savage Sweep which is just objectively better and more consistent in every way?
  • Power Maul has the same deal as the shield, and it even has the completely worthless blessing Power Surge which I complained about 3 months ago.

On that note, why is Fatshark so terrified of making blessings that create explosions useful?
I think the only weapon in the game with a decent effect on its blessing explosion, is the bolter pistol with Lethal Proximity - and even then that blessing loses out to its bleed and crit blessings.

I can tell you it’s because those blessings will inexplicably bug out and impact things they’re not supposed to.

It’s actually kind of a miracle Ogryn doesn’t have a bugged blessing that causes frag bomb to have a map wide explosion and I’m not saying that as a diss to the devs, this game engine is just like that. It’s probably bugging out exactly like that right now for somebody and they’re keeping mum about it.

Ogryn is supposed to be the big tanky guy who can shrug off blows and dish out huge melee damage, yet we have Zealot with the butter knife/toothpick (dueling sword) who’s not only more durable but also deals way more melee damage.
Feel No Pain is not worth taking since the nerf.
Gun Lugger is fun as long as you have ammo.
Heavy hitter is okay.
The other problem is the lack of good melee weapons. We have like 15 Mks and out of those I’d say 3-5 are used cuz the rest are hot garbage, so not just Ogryn himself needs some buffs, but his melee weapons as well.
