I’ve played with the Eviscerator since the beginning and I think i figured out what were the problems with it are.
It’s move set is for hordes as well as the blessing. Yet the cleave damage is horrible. After the first target, the damage is halved which continues to half after every target. So after the 3rd target, it deal almost no damage. The max damage only applies to the downward strikes and heavy attacks. The side sweeps only get half of the damage stats. Meaning if you have a max damage Eviscerator, half of your attacks in your horde killing combo do half damage and all your attacks decrease by half for each target. And for infested targets, you get a third of your damage after each target.
The blessing are for weapons that have horde clear in mind yet they don’t do much if the weapon has a inherent problem with damage distribution.
Single target is not great ether. Some times, the teeth parts through if the target doesn’t have enough mass. Sometimes the teeth latch on then let go of something if it’s moving too fast or something. And has nothing backing it up for single target damage.
The weapons is slow but without the damage to back up the slow speed. It want to be a all-rounder weapon yet it is bad at both roles.
The weapon comparable to the Eviscerator is the thunder hammer which is more useable. It has a more easier horde clear combo and a more consistent cleave damage distribution. It has more single target damage due to the powered-up attack. It even has more stagger.
Welcome to the general conclusions about many Darktide weapons. Cleave up to 20 enemies? Sure! Damage…3.
“Immeasurably” Complex.
Atm ability to damage multiple enemies with your swings is the main characteristic behind good melee weapons. Vermintide 2 cleave and damage calculations were also fairly complex, but most of two handed weapons there feel far better to use. That is the reason why after weeks of using Eviscerator I spent week or two playing VT2 as Greatsword Merc. Just to remind myself Fatshark can, if they want, create good two handers.
But it takes one trash mob in the way for it to be a waste and unnecessary self stun.
Evis rev-up attack may be do less damage, but you can catch elites with it in crowds.
I’ve found the normal chainsword works much better overall than the eviscerator, ironically.
It deals slightly less damage, but attacks much faster and has much better crowd control & cleave with the right blessings on it.
The eviscerator excels only at single target charged attacks, which the thunder hammer does better anyways.
It’s just in a bad spot.
I was just thinking about the same thing yesterday. Both the chainsword and the chainaxe work better overall than the eviscerator.
The chainsword having better crowd control than the evi is absurd.
The heavy sword has waaaay better horde clearing than evi even. Makes no sense.
