Ever since the vet ammo aura nerf

So is being a condescending person, yet here you are.

Level 900+ Vet
Level 350+ Psykser
Level 150ish Zealot
Newby Ogryn.
(Might need verification, I play vanilla Darktide)

We shouldn’t argue I don’t like the change, you guys do, whatever.

Here, have a lighthouse cookie:

I will have a cookie, thanks.

This doesn’t change the point we are putting across here. No one is aiming to p… into your cereal, ā€œbecause we hate the veteranā€ or whatever narrative you try to spin here.

We play that class, and we are just honest enough with ourselves to see the issue. The ammo is there, you just have to open few storage boxes when walking from point A to B.

Tzcheese has nailed it.

It scales backwards for auric, which is wild… it needs to be looked at again.

Its not scaled backwards. Its stops in efficiency. World not spinning around veteran ammo aura. Chill.

Yeah if you are the only one or maybe another player getting some pickups it’s fine, even if it can be annoying to go for every corner of the map to pick up supplies, but when you have 2 people with heavy ammo use or more, or trying to follow a team that pushes hard… It ain’t good.

Vet ammo aura as a balancing point for ammo supply was just dumb, but just reducing the the ammo coming from it by ~80% on Auric without any buffs for ammo supply, especially for Vet is also very very dumb. This should have been caught by the ā€œcommunity testing teamā€ for sure…

FS should have made it to only effect Vet or buffed base ammo supply for it by 60%.

Also on the point of gunpsykers blasting through their all ammo supply, this also applies to veterans and frankly the reason for their behaviour recently are likely…penances. Fatshark as usual introduces game achievements which trigger OCD response from players who have very little interests in the core gameplay and are just completing checkboxes. I have seen at least few people on my Steam list returning to the game for that SOLE reasons alone. I had vets with an autogun joining our games, ā€œblastingā€ through all their ammo to get some penance progress, because ā€œachievementsā€. This is a bit sad.

I do open them, believe you me. In search of the plasteel I try to check every nook and cranny, but bolter economy is horrendous.

Without talent (+25% reserve) it’s:
1 bolt for elite / specialist kill.
14 bolts for small ammo pickup (not full magazine)
+/- 45 bolts for big pack.

And I’m not alone - team needs to get their share.

I want 2 bolts per elite back, if there is going to be 5 seconds cooldown.
I’ve made a joke based on MatrixLite line about going after aura and now regretting it.
Monkey paw jokes have been used before and I needed something new.

Yeah, it’s for precisely these reasons why I splutter into my coffee whenever I see a thread calling for some blanket nerf.

FatShark performs surgery with a jackhammer, waits 2 months to fix it, then goes on vacation.

Survivalist is still good. Vet is fine. People using ammo-intensive auto guns isn’t handicapping the team. It’s a new ammo economy. Adapt.

Good luck with your really specific wish list. I’m genuine here. At least now we can think about ammo economy balance changes.

Powerful counter-argument. I guess that clears that up.

I use a very simple mental algorithm:

  1. If I need the ammo and I’ve opened a chest and found it; then I’ll take it. The lowest size I need.
  2. If I need ammo (red), and I’m first at a random find, I’ll take it. I’m a player that uses ammo sparingly and only against specials and elites, so at least I know it won’t be wasted.
  3. Otherwise it gets marked, and I hang around for a few seconds to see if anyone is heading over: because, and this is true, even marked ammo gets ignored by some players using their ā€œI need ammoā€ shortcut. If it’s there a few seconds, it’s mine.

I’m in agreement with you @MarxistDictator , a lot of players don’t want to search for ammo. I for one think that ammo scrounging should very definitely be a thing.

This is the crux of the current issue.

Did survivalist need to be changed? Absolutely. It not only lead to so many problems for vet builds, but occasional toxicity from teammates because of how much it propped up their own lacking ammo economies.

Did Fatshark go about changing survivalist in the laziest way possible that barely addresses those concerns? Also 100% true. It’s still hands down vets best aura, so the build issues are still there. And, as the billion threads on the topic show, ammo issues still lead to toxicity.

Also doesn’t improve player sentiment when big nerfs get handed down in nothing patches while their class is still a swiss cheese of issues. If a survivalist nerf had come with big, positive changes for exe stance/infiltrate and the keystones people would likely be less upset.

I hear you OP. This stuff doesn’t happen to me all that often but, often enough I suppose.

Not to derail the thread but this is one of those things I wish the scoreboard mod actually showed us, things scoreboards in general should show. For all its nice stats for objectives and materials and different types of dmg, it has next to none of the stuff that actually matters or gives context.

If player A has big dmg but took 90% of all the mission ammo to get there - thus depriving the rest of the team of that ammo -, while B is barely behind with a fraction of the same supplies, who was really the MVP?

Scoreboard issues aside, like the difficulty of accurately measuring every metric, the toxicity (and I agree with the devs that leaving it out was a good move), etc… I would honestly love to see stuff like this, way more than the pointless kills & dmg with no context: Stuff like ranged accuracy/hit percentage, % of ammo collected, % of heals used, % of aggro or enemy focus vs. the rest, # of times caught/disabled/hanging by a ledge, # of times you saved a teammate from the same, # of stimms used, stimm use efficiency % (did you actually fight something while the buff was on or just wasted it), etc. etc. Even knowing it would never be enough and many weapons have completely different roles making a direct comparison pointless and unfair. But still. Just for curiosity.

Not for real tho. People have no critical ability to read that data in the proper context, which is why it always leads to that toxicity and other issues. Still, sometimes I’d just love to know for its own sake.

Oh, my. So you’re in FatShark decision making board?!
Should have said so before! I also want a Krieg-pony and Valkyrie trinket for my bolter while we are at it.

Angry Noises

For some reason the nerf requests gets listen to much more often than buff requests.
Nerfs always comeback biting not only a class they are targeting but also others.
(Flamer and soul burn nerfs were connected, if I remember correctly.)
Playstyles and synergy between pre-established teams goes straight into warp.

Where scalpel should be used FS whacks the problem with Thunderhammer.
Since bolter was nerfed and became much less popular threads about buffing it die within week or two. There were a couple. It’s always the same.
Current meta are a KNIFE and a CARBINE for Emperor’s sake.

In terms of damage they outpace bolter, plasma and powersword - weapons which should be a pinnacle of what our acolytes could get their hands on.
Nevermind. Wrong topic, to hell with it.

I wan’t more ammo return on bolter with current 5 sec cooldown.
If other ammohungry builds are present I’m using melee too often for a 40k setting, and I don’t like current ratio (m: 60%, r: 40%, numbers may vary).

Fyi Ovenproof’s scoreboard mod shows ammo pickup usage and other misc stats like that.

How long since the Close Range ā€œbugā€? Should be around 6 months no? Damn thing gets commented on in the first 4 replies in every update.

Hell yeah! I’d love to see this baked into the game!

I think people should know how their accuracy post game.
