Essence question

i just got weaves dlc and i saw on some vermintide streams that people were getting essence from playing matches but i haven’t been able to get any. do i have to play a particular difficulty or do i have to play 1 weave to activate it? i dont understand how to get essence from playing regular map missions.

EDIT: i can’t read what it says under essence tab in game. seems like there’s 2 tabs overlapping each other.

You need to beat 1 weave to activate it. It goes up the more you beat to a certain point, not sure when that is.
