Does darktide deserve steams "labor of love" in 2025?

Do you think darktide deserves to be nominated for steam “labor of love” award in 2025?

Personally, if it wasnt for havoc and mortis trials. I’d gladly and proudly vote for it, even regardless of the DLC classes.

Havoc was a thorn at darktide side ever since it released. And until it is removed or completely reworked with the modifiers released from its prison my vote will stay with vermintide.

It is such a shame really. After the crafting rework the future looked so bright.
Hell, maybe in 2026…

That’s a no from me.

There have been such a huge demand for mods becoming base game. Nothing on that front.

There have been a demand for new enemies and maps. VERY LITTLE on that front.

New classes, sure, but they’re paid and that’s not a “labor of love” thing.

It can be nominated but i doubt it will win.

While havoc getting worse, mortis trials became slightly better thanks to auric difficulty and game in general gets better, there isn’t as much bugs ad there was before, though 100% new update will add them.

We got new class and one incoming next week.
I liked arbitrator and i think new class will be fun to play, hive scum was within my expectations for new class, so i am not disappointed, even though i would like tech priest too.

We got all old classes rework, you can fume about balance, but structure of new trees way better, no more blitz abilities and ultimates kept behind talents you wouldn’t want for them, no more dozens of tax points.

Also across the year we got some old weaponry reworked to point that at least one version of each weapon is viable in auric maelstrom.
For the most part players can finally pick whatever low tier weapon they want, which combined we updated talent tees will now not make burden to the team or lessen it.

Personally, I think we’ve had a good year. There’s been a lot of improvement in several aspects and fun events; even the commodore improved. But there are still things to work on, but for me, it’s a yes.

“Labor of Love” implies that the devs are implementing things and improving the game out of a love for the game. Sadly, I believe that the devs are prevented from adding the stuff they’d love to see or fixing the things they’d love to fix by the corporate suits who want them to only add stuff to make money and think that if it’s not hurting their bottom line, it doesn’t need fixed.

Nah, this year is one of the worst for content and quality of said content. Also maps, like man we are on such a huge map drought all this sideways not map content has me leery. We better be getting several maps before the next paid class after Hive(s)cum.

It will be a no from me until we get minimum 6 new (full size!) maps, 3 of which need to be in a new biome. The other 3 could be 2 from glorrianna and 1 from hourglass.

And all modifiers released into permanent rotation.

After almost 2k hours and all penances and a deep love for the game …I’m finally too bored to play. I detest the current havoc modifiers and I detest the 3 strike demotion system.

I want auric to be harder and I want MAPS. for the love of god give us maps. The same missions over and over and with a handful of the worst modifiers. It’s the opposite of labour of love in it’s current form and it’s pushing me to play other games.

Absolutely not.

FOMO slop shop still exists, and they turned down the chance to alleviate it via event Aquilas.

Ignored the masses clamoring for maps to instead release quarter-baked Mortis Trials and more iterations on Havoc, a grindy player retention infested attempt to cash in on hardcore fans.

Ignored the people who wanted Admech to release Hive Scum and couldn’t even market it effectively.

Ignored everyone who wanted proper balance to instead release unbalanced pay to win classes and to lead us into a buggy, bloated, power-crept shell of what it once was.

Constantly late, constantly ignoring its community, constantly driven by profit margins and corporate mandates.

There is very little love in this game.

I might’ve been charitable and nominated it last year, after Unlocked and Loaded showed an upswing and a chance to climb out of the hole.

But Darktide has consistently squandered that chance.

I’ve only ever truly asked for more maps. beats a dead horse The devs released a blog saying how map making will be easier than V2 and yet we have more maps released in V2 than Darktide this year. NO

The addition of two new classes within a year is certainly commendable, but an even bigger issue is how Darktide’s balance has been deteriorating day by day, devolving into a shallow, meta-spam–driven gameplay experience.
At this point, the situation has worsened so much that the game’s very worthiness to play feels in doubt, and I’m deeply disappointed.

No. Maybe in 2026. They put too much effort into Vermintide 2.

Yes, but I don’t want to vote because of the focus on havoc, removing auric heresy, refusing to address havoc metas poisoning the rest of the game.

Arbites and Mortis are cool though.

The Zealot, Psyker and Veteran Talent Tree rework was much needed, the reduced Operator Modifier tax was very refreshing IMO. There were also some pretty interesting Talent additions as well.

Plasma Gunner was a good addition, additional cosmetics in Vestures was a great change but unfortunately as others said the game could really use some new maps, mod integration into the base game, and more mission modifier variety for Auric/Damnation.

Two new classes released in the same year though, along with what I listed above gives it a yes from me. Hopefully we’ll see more of those additions to come.

idk I feel like the plasma gunner nerf swung too hard and now they contribute nothing but ear r*** in normal gameplay (seriously when a squad of these spawn in spraying their weapons it sounds like you’re in a fireworks stand that just lit up). and if we were being really judgy on what it actually contributes to the game I’m kind of at a loss. He’s a tankier shotgunner that trades the on hit slowdown and possible damage spiking of multiple pellets for a toughness regen debuff on hit? At least the tox bomber changed the gameplay up.

Vermintide 2, yes. Darktide, no.

I can’t wait for the next Fatshark game so Darktide can go on Lifesupport like Vermintide 2 and finally get good updates that make players happy

Not true, but the things they choose seem to be random and infrequent. We got a dodge UI, for example.

yes and no, Fatshark keep updating it but keep missing most of what the community is screaming at them somehow

Disconnects, entire 4 player teams all crashing simultaneously ending Havoc runs, and a very specific crash for me that occurs whenever a psyker disconnects that the devs have literally zero idea how to fix.

Ignoring literally everything else, the game functions worse than before. That’s a no from me.

I’m curious to hear the reasoning of people who voted “yes”.

Either way, there’s no chance FS is gonna win this when most of their players don’t even think they deserve it. Even if FS did an amazing job and we’d all vote they should get, chances would be slim with competing games. As it stands, chances are near zero.
