The poll was edited an hour after opening to edit one of the options to say “I have mixed feelings about Darktide.” Some results were lost, so if you voted before, please feel free to vote again. I apologize! I didn’t think anyone would even look at this post to be honest.
I’m very satisfied! Back then, I actually refunded the game because of how disappointed I was. I even played the closed beta. I don’t necessarily regret that decision (there was A LOT of drama back then), but I am having a ton of fun with where the game is at now, and I’m happy that I decided to jump back in about a year or so afterward.
well I’m satisfied with what the game wants me to give through gameplay and combat mechanics none other offers in the same fashion.
I’m unsatisfied with the technical issues and parts of the “balancing” that sours the experience.
at around 2k hours playtime it’d hypocritical to say the game wasn’t worth the measly 40€, spent multiple times the amount on skins for I support the game and around 1k in mcfarlane figures cause the game got me into 40k as a setting, so there’s that.
The game has a great core gameplay loop, magnificently captures the atmosphere of 40k, is visually stunning, and has a wide array of toys to play with.
Unfortunately just about everything outside of that, all of the game’s ancillary systems, are…bad. Not just in terms of implementation, but in terms of basic inherent conception, often built upon wreckage of poorly conceived and abandoned ideas but carried on with in some form anyway.
RNG based gear and items built off a failed Gacha implementation that doesn’t seem to serve a purpose, weapons with “80%” stats with no explanation as to what “100%” would mean and no plan to implement anything, a weekly Contract system that’s both frustrating to complete and largely worthless in terms of payoff resulting in it not fulfilling its intended purpose, painfully overcomplicated talent trees, byzantine and arcane game mechanics that are explained little-to-nowhere within the game or the game’s support sites and materials, multiple “harder than hard” modes that just split the playerbase and infuriate people with annoying gameplay and differing metas, all coupled with a terrible Cosmetics rotation all sourced from a Chinese E-sweatshop (with some truly terrible outcomes, like the Krieg cosmetics that look like a comic-con cosplay instead of the actual art and models) and somehow basically nothing for the new DLC classes.
Most damningly, for a Coop game, it’s relentlessly single-player in feel, with no coop elements like one might find in DRG or HD2 (no bar to gather round for minor buffs and psych each other up with, no pre-mission planning beyond maybe checking party member builds in 60 seconds, no Bring Doretta Home traditions, etc), players in the same party will be in different instances of the Morningstar, etc. all while the game doesn’t actually have a Solo mode.
It was released in an early alpha state at least 2 years early, seems to have stubbornly stuck to stuff it should have ditched and over-complicated things that should have been simple, and it shows.
No one with 1k+ hours can say they’ve not been mostly satisfied. And that’s how we have to work it out…because “satisfied" can change greatly depending on when you ask.
I’m very satisfied with overall core experience and I have almost 2k hours to show for it.
I’m very unsatisfied with some aspects like the mtx shop and general content output speed/direction and balancing.
For such a complex game, your questionnaire needs more options
What do you think the options should be?
I modified them slightly from before, but adding more than four options would sort of defeat the purpose of the poll which is to get a general opinion of how forum users feel about the game.
I was thinking I could change the third option to say something else like, “I have mixed feelings about Darktide.” and basically encourage people to elaborate in the replies.
EDIT: I modified that third option to include “mixed feelings” and reset the poll. I’m still happy to hear your ideas for options.
Dissatisfied. DT potential was much bigger then it reached in the end. If only FS was more competent in every way - basic QA for gameplay features, technical issues or communication.
As someone who was playing their games since Vermintide 1, i can say they learned nothing and recreated the same mistakes plus new ones.
And even fundamentals are spoiled with powercreep and trash balance exisitng for monthes, plastered with bandaid low effort fixes.
One one hand we’ve gotten meaningful overhauls to things we wanted that have legitimately improved them.
On the other many of these things shouldn’t have been this way at launch to begin with and it definitely feels like content has been stifled to pretty much play catch on the game launching well before it was ready
So mixed when you buy a game where they announced the solo game mode would come next month, and 3 years later we are still in same situation… no solo game mode
They cut their own throat on cosmetics in my eyes. We had to fight so hard to get crafting. It just hasn’t been pleasant in that regard. The game had so much potential, but they decided to burn their good will in favor of predatory micro transactions.
The “difficulty” balancing has spiraled out of control. It’s just become a cluster mess of specials and elites, with trappers and dogs unfairly ending your games. Snipers that are almost untargetable bc they are so far away, but can somehow see you. Pox bombers that went to the Joe Montana training camp to ricochet bombs perfectly at you. Carapace needs to be reined in too, the build variety centers around whether you can deal with armor, eliminating a lot of weapons and build choices.
I know they can fix it, but FS let it unravel for far too long.
The maximum players active number can tell what it is. Compared to early version, more people would like to play this game after talents tree reworked and new classes came out.
The game has slowly morphed into something that is no longer recognisable as the franchise I fell in love with. I adore VT1 and VT2, and Darktide started off with a similar vibe but has become something distinctly different and, to my mind, infinitely inferior.
Pacing, atmosphere, the feeling of being a group of relative nobodies facing oppressive threats they have no right to survive, it’s all been sacrificed at the alter of turning the game into some high octane super hero power fantasy, as you wade through an absolute ocean of enemies who are completely inconsequential individually and bleed together into an amorphous mass of flesh for you to cut through.
Personally I FEEL the loss of the previous combat director. The current gameplay feels like it’s slowly turning into a cheap imitation without the weight or thought put behind it.
I’m not saying they’re wrong for doing that, it’s probably been a rather lucrative choice, and I’m sure I’m in the minority for absolutely loathing this direction.
So while I recognise at this point the game will likely never be what I hoped for, and that what it is now is probably preferred by most, I mourn what was lost.
