Do you play with mods?

except you don’t.
darktide currently has 2 modes:

a) careful turtle gameplay in havoc40
b) clutching and carrying in auric maelstrom or.
events

the best matches to be had are not the hand-in-hand strolling to the shuttle (there aint any anyways), its the ones where 3 dudes spectacularly f-up and you’re picking up the pieces, go above and beyond and see the match to success where all else failed.

obviously im getting too old for that

crap either, cause everything that isnt “nice” to everyone is considered that.

back in the day you had a few handpicked prodigies of quake/unreal etc and the rest was considered “meat” that was to go through the grinder before even considered a worthy contestant.

being finally in a match with the “big dogs” was the reward of months and years of training and you felt like you made it.

imagine your spotter in the gym going soft language and mild affirmations on you, you wouldnt lift 5lbs.
growth needs ambition, energy, anger, hate and passion. push through that pain and check for injuries later, you need to bite down on a towel you do so.

the “soft-spoken” looked the same year in and out, the dudes that put themselves through the grueling put on some serious meat, go figure.

but i guess that qualifies as “toxic” in todays world :man_shrugging:

the biggest misconception in my book is between “coop” and “teamplay”

a pve “coop” game has people run for the same exit and shoot in the same direction.

a teamplay-game is mostly pvp and before you even get near that team you have to proof your skills over and over again.

a team is a finished, carefully pre-selected collection of equals that has a finding and composition process before a match even starts.

“coop” is a ragtag band of randoms that happen to be tossed together.

what affiliation or care would one grant to peeps that are gone in 20 minutes anyways?
“coop” means other folk in a match that prevent the run from repeating itself ad nausea and add new chaos.

i dont care what loadout they bring and dont expect anyone to do anything useful to save my hide in a pinch. you’re basically solo with audience.

that is not to say i don’t respect skilled peers, quite the contrary.
a good way to grow is to see others do better than yourself, emulate and integrate into your own playstyle.

but holding back for the sake of “teamplay”, why in the world would one do that if you got no connections personally with the players present?

game’s balancing currently has every char on solo clearing level up to auric and maelstrom to some like scum etc.

did a solo, clearing everything on my full health ogryn, on auric and it was perfectly doable.

why then the fake “support” instead of expecting them folk to at least keep the pace?

there currently is no need for complex teamplay endeavors, if anything it drags the match on unnecessarily and produces far more spawns than “normally”.
(and no, mandatory dome&yellow toughness in havoc40 isnt “teamplay”, its a pavlov-reflex to counter hard-coded conditions)

it aint a “tactics” game, its a reflex shooter that (especially at release) rewards the individual skill of a player in terms of movement, aim and map knowledge.

one superior player easily leads on the match, of course them 3 others dont “like” that in todays “everyone’s a winner” mentality.

would love to put them in a time machine and have them grind quake 3 1vs1 for years before getting one kill :smiling_face_with_horns:
at least that method produced feasible results and the dude spat out at the end was worlds apart from what you put in at the front :+1:

anyways, no one is entitled for other rejects to turn around/hold back/go out of their ways as a result of a personal misplay.
when opportune you pick him up, when resources paid in order to retrieve (health/toughness/ammo) would be to costly for what his “contribution” to the completion of the match would be, you leave him until a better opportunity shows 2 rooms further.

that isnt “toxic”, its efficient and free of artificial “social weakness” a lot expect nowadays and are shocked results are weighted heavier than their personal perception of the situation.

“how are they not dropping everything to rescue me, dont they know its a teamgame

end of the match it doesnt matter if there’s one reject or 4 on the benches, the game is won.
and if there was a better player than he won the match, not the cumbaya crowd sitting around the fireplace :man_shrugging:

ps: i’d gladly opt for some more complex engagements that’d require for all 4 participants to contribute equally and efficiently to overcome.

currently the pace of the game feels “off”, due to power creep, even for a doom-guy like me thats used to 5x the runspeed.

darktide isnt “that game”

but as long as the player literally has slayer powers, why not slay to the max of your abilities?

isnt that what people “wanted” when they clapped for weapons like the dueling sword, flame/inferno staff, gun-scum, arbites, arch rifle…

each and every one example a one man army.

so, should rambo wait for reinforcements???

I’ve seen plenty of Playstation players obsessed with padding kills, ignoring objectives and more interested in killing random horde/trash mobs unnecessarily in map corners. Just shows even without scoreboard mod they still want to increase their killcount but can’t actually see it. So I wonder what is their point of doing so.

If a person wants to be unpleasant they won’t need any tools/mods. It is in their personality.

Much the same as someone thirsting medstation/ammo and inconsiderate of others. It isn’t some mod that is making behave that way. Just reflects their real life personality.

Don’t need numbers, research or stats to understand human nature. Just jump into Quickplay, hang back and observe. Almost everytime that 1 remaining medstation charge won’t actually be left for the person that needs it most.

Lets be real it isn’t just Darktide, but in general many people are unpleasant behind anonymity.

It’s certainly not exclusive to DT, but it seems to have gotten steadily worse over the years, some of the other oldies will probably agree with me.

Quality of gamers has also decreased, dumbed down mobile and console “games” are the biggest cause I think.

As for people relying on out of context Scoreboard numbers mouthing off, my advice is to push back, you’ll often find it works and the rest of the team may even join you. If nothing else, it’s cathartic. I doubt the absence of the scoreboard numbers would change all that much.

People need to develop thicker skins, I’ve lost count how many time I was insulted in this thread alone lol. Didn’t one guy outright call me an idiot ? Oh lord, if I did that they’d go spamming reports and posts would vanish and bans handed out.

Spidey Sense:

If a person has zero, bad, minimal hearing then it is an accessibility mod. It’s a grey area of what is considered impaired level of hearing. But for sure if zero hearing then it’s accessibility mod.

If a person has good hearing. Then it is not an accessibility mod. It becomes a double warning system of audio and visual. You miss one indicator you have the 2nd as backup as warning.

“It’s because game is buggy with audio cues I use it”. True, but it’s not every audio cue 100% it bugs out. So can still benefit as double warning system as above when audio cues are working.

Also audio cues are more difficult to pinpoint exact direction. Spider Sense “cone” isn’t really a “cone” because it’s always middle of cone and might as well be exact line down the middle like a clock hand.

Health Bars:

With people playing the same weapons over and over time they already know base and crit damage per enemy type. Now they know rough breakpoints remaining. i.e. 8 Crushers coming at you, they’ve taken various damage from team mates, their HP loss doesn’t effect their overhead damage or movement

Now you know exact order of engagement to thin their numbers effectively. Might as well have a whack a mole number on their heads to tell you which one to hit first and next.

this has to be part of the base game. its in many many games like. I am surprised a swedish company did not think of this. really dissapointed in them.

What is the point of being woke if you do not adhere to their foundational principles. even anti-woke game have coloblindness setting and hard of hearing settings. like come on fatshark.

Gen Z effect of using insults as way to counter logic. No thanks, not going to get sucked into tennis match with a teenager, better to use ignore button and save time to do other things like my laundry or trim grass in garden.

Some people want to provoke and illicit a response for their own satisfaction, they become more annoyed when ignored.

Definitely games are not getting better. Devs still struggle to produce games with good storywriting. Endless remakes, remasters, sequels worse than predecessors. Graphics over actual engaging mechanics.

Mobile games market growing stronger. Makes sense, less effort to develop, free, low requirement of a mobile phone, hook a few kids and use pay to progress microtransactions.

Eventually if next PC platform ends up costing few thousands and it probably will be the case. Say in future £1000 for 64GB RAM, £1000 for 2TB PCIe SSD with DRAM, £1500 for “mid tier” GPU…you’ll start to evaluate not about affordability but principle of value return with all these slop games.

this

what is best in life?

crush the casuals,
see the noobs driven before you
and hear the lamentation about the scoreboard

:flexed_biceps:

I want to add that repeating yourself is a pretty normal thing if you believe & hold an opinion and want other (new) people to understand your opinion. I think most people here do this, including you.

I don’t like repeating myself much either but I still care & complain about some of the things in this game even if said thing has been around since day 1.

Can do. You can ask me anything related to this topic or Darktide and there’s a good chance I’ll have something written months or years ago I could share, if not I can just write something new and/or perhaps even share someone else’s words.
I think it’s certainly better practice of preaching your ideas than giving someone a non-answer. I’m not going to tell someone on Discord to just scroll up the message history or look elsewhere if they’re asking how the game’s toughness melee damage mitigation works.

I remember year back when one of the people that Fatshark pass for a community management came in and told us “We have an internal discussion about this, ill let you know”.

What happened with that?

The problem with making these assumptions is you have no actual info to back it up. You don’t seem to understand that SEEING isn’t EVERYTHING. Similar to how you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, you can’t judge a guy sitting in a corner killing enemies as “padding their score”. You know what tunnel vision is? Some people have a hard time pushing through a level when there’s still enemies coming from a direction.

I play this game about 2 hours every day and I see every type of player you could imagine. In the entire time I have played I have never ONCE assumed that because someone is sitting back and killing a horde, they’re trying to pad their score. I ASSUME, they are either A. New or B. Have tunnel vision or C. Don’t understand how spawns work.

A, B, or C - I could assume “wow this guy is trying to kill as many enemies as possible to up his score” OR I could think “wow this guy is struggling and doesn’t understand that pushing through a level is the best thing to do on higher difficulties”

It’s all about perspective and the issue with today’s world is everything is shrouded in negativity/comparison thanks to social media/news. Some of you literally are not capable of thinking outside the box, thinking further than your own NOSE - you assume the worst and take that assumption as fact, then push that falsity as reality out into the online sphere. Do better.

That typically means they (Fatshark) are content with the status quo and don’t see any need to change anything.

Console players just tend to be more casual, if I had the option to turn off crossplay I would, because 9 times out of 10 having a console player on your team is a miserable experience.

Because people making games from artists to workers. Simple as. Everybody got told by parents, traditional media, internet that there is a lot of money in this trade. Why would you care if the artistic design, story or anything else is garbage? You still get paid, and this is what you’re here for.

//excuse the doubleposting

In this scenario:

  • He was not struggling.
  • He was perfectly happy chasing a horde in the distance, miles from canister objective. They were not chasing him. Big difference.
  • Ignore pings to canister carry objective
  • True level mod shows probably been playing for months

Ok so perhaps he was so totally “in the zone” and lost attention to objective.

Applies to a lot industries. They do their small part in a project and then they are impacted by other’s decisions at bigger picture

Hence long time ago I decided never want to work for anyone again. I work for myself and I decide everything.

“i wont stop until every thread is a Scoreboard thread”

It’s on the schedule. Said schedule is on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a old bathroom with a sign on the door saying "Beware of Leopard” like every other schedule Fatshark uses.

C’mon man, “Shark” was right there!

There is also D. Guy just loves killing heretics which is super FUN in this game. I hate all the ppl rushing for example on Auric to the end of the mission and then whining at the rest because of the speed. I mean c’mon, this isn’t ultra hard - we can easily clear whole level, moving at our speed without rushing. Some ppl just play this game to chill & have fun after decaptating another chaos worshipper… (and yeah i know how the spawns work i just don’t care - have 1,3 k + hrs in this game)

scareboard pepi

scare-board.

for we are putting the scare of being judged in every match :squinting_face_with_tongue:
