Do you play with mods?

dont really care about scoreboard either way, but this is obviously a toxic individual. do you think if scoreboard mod wouldnt exist this dude would be less toxic? or would he just seek other ways to gloat his low IQ ego?

i agree that it wont happen, tho there is third option, legal pressure on mod creators. they could send out a cease and desist letter saying they violated terms and service and are to alter their mod in a manner that doesnt.

given the fact they barely bothered to sanction mods in V2 i doubt they have any will to monitor the modding scene and actually enforce it anyway.

PS not saying they should do that.

Already done by Fatshark

Several mods have been taken down of Nexus.

Next?

wym “next”?

they didnt attempt with the mods we have right now. thats why people make forum post letting fatshark know they dont think the current situation is “fine”.

Yes, I say it because this is true.

And no they have not failed… this is your appreciation. The mods are compliant with the rules they published. At least, this is what they have concluded as these mods are still on Nexus.

thats why we want them to reevalueate. they thought the rules were enough to selfregulate, they werent, again hence why people voice their thoughts on the forum.

PS: the rules they published, arent a legally binding document, its simply a statement of what they themself say they will enforce. they can change their mind on a whim without explanation. again, not that they should

The game installs without a scoreboard for a pretty good reason, and it’s within everyone’s power to add numbers after the fact if they want to. There’s so many other games that put a lot of value on incrementing numbers so it’s like, even if we magically zapped the scoreboard away the influence still exists from other, different games, like the toxicity doesn’t just come from nowhere but it also isn’t exclusive or isolated to this one game or that one mod. The best we can do is just say that there’s important choices a player makes that aren’t reflected in scoreboard numbers and hope someone might outgrow numbers and build the soft skills of good team play on their own. What I think ultimately doesn’t impact what they think and there are more games than just this one out there incentivizing being the top number haver in a match. We just gotta see our teams through to the end as best we can.

again, do you think, that individual would be toxic without a scoreboard or not?

or alternatively do you think a nontoxic person will become toxic to a degree if they were to install the scoreboard?

FIFY.

I already gave my answer but I’d be interested to hear your perspective.

already told you. back to you, you didnt give a straight answer, you beat around the bush.

would that individual have acted toxic without having a scoreboard mod? what do you think?

Can we dispel this myth?

It’s purposely built as an ESP cheat first and foremost and every purposeful design decision backs this assessment up, take a look at what features it offers, its evolution and how a sensible person would go about designing an actual accessibility mod for the hearing impaired, it was talked about in this thread again.

Any accessibility functionality is purely accidental and is only thrown out as a smokescreen “omg why do you hate the disabled you ableist !111!”. This has been discussed numerous times so I won’t repeat myself further on this.

Every ESP aspect you listed it here is worse in RadarSense mods, to their credit, if you can call the hopelessly late change and insincerity, HP bars mod is now tagged as confirmed Cheat +99 on Nexus and they never disallowed tagging it; gotta give the devil his due.

You’ll find the same people that use and defend the previous mods will also use an defend the last one you mentioned and they all cross a clear line and are not that different from one another if you grade them on a scale. Add them all up and their cheatyness goes up exponentially.

That automark BS is just the inevitable outcome of an accelerating cheaty arms race and the logical conclusion of turning a blind eye and normalizing cheats. LOL at least it wasn’t a “racist white ogryn westerner” who coded it this time.

P.S. automark mod being self-tagged as QoL sure is something!

  1. Not sure this is the majority (in fact sure it is not)
  2. Not sure you are all agree about what you want…
  3. Impossible to implement something to prevent the use of such mods without an anti cheat… it means that, if they remove mods from Nexus, it would require that they change the code to forbid the use of the mod by the users that had downloaded it. In other words, considering how Fatshark reacts when there is a REAL problem in their game (DS, Purgatus, Psyker etc.), expect that they think about it at least 3 - 4 years.

kay, so? never said so and neither does it matter

i speak for myself thats it.

eh no? the moment they tinker with anything remotely adacent the mod gonna need an update, if the modauthor wouldnt be able to upload any updates it would be a dead mod very quickly.

could someone savy use the already downloaded data and adjust it to work with a new version? sure but without distribution its a minor concern.

It is very bad for a person on forums to adjust the content of a quote to make it look like I said something I did not. You are as bad as the mods you make and need to reframe from doing both Mods and Changing quotes to suit your own means. Absolutely disgusting and childish!

LOL WHAT? GD dude, faux outrage dial cranked up to 17, well done!

Since google appears to be down on your end, LMGTFY:

I even bolded the “fixed” part, and included the proper quote to your original comment. This may be the most ridiculous thing I’ve read in a month here.

You falsified what I said and I have no time for it. From this moment on I have no interest in what you have to say as you falsify quotes to suit your own means.

LOL OK, I even googled it for you but sure, stick to the comedy routine. Mein gods.

I feel like the question was attempting to squash a broader answer into a binary yes/no, which isn’t really applicable here, so I wasn’t planning on entertaining it. I’ll expand on my thinking for you, and you can think whatever you like of me for it.

What I think I said in my other answer was that people learn to chase numbers and measure themselves against their peers from other games, usually competitive games where this sort of thing is relevant and very common. When someone adds a scoreboard that doesn’t inherently exist it’s to surface those numbers, and those numbers are sought out to measure ourselves against our peers, and that desire does not come from the mod nor from this game, it’s background radiation from everywhere else that is carried here or inherited from our peers. It’s not innate to the game, and the game doesn’t reward it. People add a scoreboard because they place value on the numbers and its absence is seen as an omission they have power to remedy.

If they don’t care at all there is a high probability they don’t install a scoreboard, and if they do install it there is something there they value, and that thing is the numbers. If I find a player who is toxic in the manner we’re describing, in this particular way, I assume there’s strong odds that they’re trying to make a number larger than someone else’s and treat their teammates as adversarial, and there’s one very common thing that would cause someone to care about that, and it’s not native to the game.

I think the question of “would they be toxic without the scoreboard” is a flattening one because the behavior we’re talking about wasn’t learned from this game or from any one mod, it’s something from everywhere that isn’t relevant here unless we import that relevance ourselves. My view is that going to the trouble of surfacing Numbers is a symptom of needing to be ranked by some metric that is useful in competitive environments but is out of place here. This is a cooperative game and outcomes are pass/fail, if you succeed then everyone’s contributions were sufficient and if you die you all die together. Toxic behavior is going to be toxic regardless of the context but in the case of players going into a mission looking to do more damage than anyone else at everyone else’s expense, I’m going to assume they believe this is a good thing and that they’re probably running a very common mod that lets them track how good they’re doing at this specific thing.

So, in a nutshell, I believe people install a scoreboard mod in the first place because they want numbers, that those numbers need to be measured against their teammates’ to have any meaning to such a player, that this behavior is imported from outside the game and that focusing on those metrics affects the choices players make in-game, because having good numbers is the fruit you grow the tree of a scoreboard for in the first place. Bigger damage numbers are not indicative of better play than smaller ones, and good practices are not easy to quantify in numerical form, as they often manifest as an absence of bad outcomes rather than as the presence of good ones. If the presence of a scoreboard isn’t influential on someone’s decisionmaking it wouldn’t be there, which it isn’t by default; if it’s there it means something it provides is valued that the game doesn’t reward, and it’s extracted from the context of a million variables before it’s compressed into a nice, flat green line of numbers. That they then print it in chat at the end of the mission is a good indicator that they want everyone else to see how good at the numbers they are. If you took their scoreboard away they would probably still do this, because they learned to do it from elsewhere in the universe, but I believe they might mellow out about it over time if they weren’t exposing themselves to that data, and their team play might improve. I think this is a game mostly played by grown-ups, and grown-ups are often mellowed out over a long time of figuring out what matters and what doesn’t. That’s my answer for your question, thanks for taking the time to read this far.

I can’t believe this thread is still going.
