I’m an EU player i play since the beta and I’m just wondering how other EU players or NA experience with voice chat is. I’ve probably encountered less then 10 people using voice chat and those people also tended to be the typical I know everything better+insults+perma dying cause skill issue person. Does anyone here actually met people that use voice chat to make calls or just to have a funny convo instead of malding and insulting?
I’m in Australia and we use voice chat all the time. It’s pretty chill and mostly jokes and callouts.
I’m in EU and there’s a 50/50 split between console users who have their mics open and we have to listen to the music in their background, and people who speak twice a run to point out actually useful things.
That’s when a mic is involved, but 90% of the runs there’s no mic.
Yes.
the most usefull are conversations about builds and abilities, but i played with 0% voice chat volume for 8 months and never felt the need to hear what people said
With highlights and callout on a button voice chat is often obsolete and i think that’s by design. But even with the one button press to highlight threads people does not use it anyways.
I think I head useful callouts more often than mouthbreathers without a mute function.
But, I concur, 90% of the time no one says anything.
And that’s ok.
When I play with friends, obviously we talk all the time.
I use it, reluctantly; I’m an introvert and don’t like to impose my voice on others (I know, I know, I’m odd). When I do use it, it is usually to warn of daemonhosts or if I need to convey a message that will take way too long to type. The most common use of vox comms for myself is to gently chastise people for taking all the ammo, but I try to do it in a nice way, reminding them to check the squad icons to see who needs ammo before nabbing it all. More often than not it has a positive effect in that they stop taking all the ammo they see and start marking it for the squad. I get why people do it, it can be oh so easy to take the ammo without thinking about it because you do it automatically; I know because I do it on rare occasions.
I have experienced only one instance of someone being rude on vox comms because they got themselves downed, started raging at us for it and then left, so just a very rare blip on the radar from my experience.
That’s my experience, Southern Ontario Canada. Pretty much jokes in chat, or nothing and silence. And maybe 3/100 games someone will use voice for some emergency or because someone is AFK or not picking up the medpack despite everyone carrying something else or something.
Maybe, in total, I have ever heard in all my time playing, 3 occasions where people were using it conversationally. Talking about darktide in general, not even specific to the match. Like how bad RNG/Crafting is or what the meta is.
US regions will usually see much less voice chat due to the fact that US is used to hearing a lot of problems on voice chat and tend to try to “ice out” the use of voice.
Meaningful? Sure, but it’s the exception, not the rule. This is what you get when you play primarily with random people as I do. Most of the time people are just venting over something that for some reason didn’t go the way they thought it should. And that’s the nice way of putting it.
I muted voice chat long ago, and my games are far better for it. If I want voice chat, I’ll be on Discord.
That’s another thing: while playing I’m on discord with my friends, I’m not talking to strangers in a tide game…
Of the relatively few times that I’ve heard people use it, it tends to be asking about dropping ammo etc, some joking.
Personally, in addition to the above, I’d use it for
- Trying to get someone’s attention if where a ping didn’t/wouldn’t. If there’s something about to get you in the back and I can’t do anything to help, I’ll usually call out “name, thing behind”.
- Calling out medicae charges, so people know if there is (or isn’t) enough medicae available, or if someone is about to leave the area without using it
- Occasional check-ins if I notice someone detouring heavily and are isolated, or if someone is stationary for a lengthy period of time.
- Acknowledging a mistake I made (like "Ah, I shouldn’t killed that enemy before trying to revive
")
- Occasional “gg” if other people are talking (otherwise I’ll just stick to text chat)
Can’t understand what is said with all the BOOM BOOM KABOOM et Zip Zap…
So my experience as a non english player is… I ignore totally everything voiced, EXCEPT if the player just use short and clear indications (and when I can hear them).
Tagging works better.
About frequency… there was more before on EU servers. Maybe cause of people like me (europe = 25 languages at least) the guys that used the voice channels have stopped.
But, actually I rarely encounter someone that use the voice. And if I met one, it is generally a good experience. Guys saying “hellop”, guys that don’t make long sentences etc.
I hardly see anyone use VC in random groups.
That’s actually good because in this game sound cues can be the difference between life or death which works against voice chat.
I had one game session in which a teammate did use VC extensively. He tried to be helpful and give tactical advice but as previously mentioned when his talk drowned out the sound cues it became counterproductive.
Tagging is more helpful & efficient than calling out each elite/special via VC.
I started using voice chat recently and i’m using it in every game. Players tend to miss Medkit/Ammo Crates/Ammo pick-ups/Books pings 90% of time. But when you tell them “Medkit here!” “Or Big ammo on my marker” - they are actually start reacting and acting upon information received.
It’s rare. Can’t really explain why. If you want consistent voice communication you need to play with VOIP centered community like discord or teamspeak.
It’s amazing to me how few use the voice chat for a game that is centered around coordinated play which benefits from voice chat more than just about anything else, especially when playing matches with random people.
guess its a mix of things why i dont use voice with any other than close buddies when playing.
first is lack of immersion for lets be honest neither you nor me are voice actor material.
the game feels so right when the atmosphere and flow of the action come together, “ordinary” people just feel out of place.
and like i said that includes me too.
personally i perceive myself ingame with a booming james earl jones voice when reality is anything but.
second callouts are enough minus a few occasions when someone, again myself included, forgets hes carrying an item.
aside from those, enemy spotted, look/go there is usually enough.
those not reacting to that wouldn’t be any better with voice commands id wager
third, i practically record and upload any games of worth and while i dont give a flying f about insults or toilet humor i’m far to lazy to edit them out prior to uploading. simple as.
oh as a bonus factor, while my english is fluent i only lose my german accent after the x-th beer or whiskey, and darktide is clearly an “energy-game”, not a “booze-game”
dont even own a mic anymore , dont use a headset either used to leave it on though , sometimes someone using it. one time had a guy in chat with a voice modulatar to make him sound liek a space marine… that was i admit funy.
but since X- play… i dont get it … how can it always be the same theres a parent screaming at a child, a moped revving in the background and the person? playing is rubbing the mic over thier stuble while chewing cheetos , only stopping to clear thier sinuses with the old gravel inhale and swallow. there not even talking its just open mic raw dogging.
so yeah voice chats off now.
One in maybe 30 games for me (uk/EU).
"mmphm mphhm mm moph MMPHPM MMPPH!! Mpmph mhhph? " is what I hear, because the in game voice is poop. Unbelievably bad, and fs have done nothing about it in a whole year. In fact, the general sound mix does their whole effects team a huge disservice which is why I suspect so many complain about silent hordes, silent specials etc.
I talk to my steam-mate players on discord. Sound mux in darktide is dogturd. And no, I can’t he bothered to install the ducking mod. I type if I need to relay info.
