Do not forget the importance of breaks

Last weekend i had a few particularly enjoyable games of Chaos wastes with friends and i came to realise what sets it apart from other PvE roguelite games like Nightreign and mortis trials on DT.

Its the possibility to sit back and take a quick pissbreak/brew a coffee or make a sandwich!

Constant long strings of high energy gaming with no maintenance breaks make fatigue set in fast and gaming not enjoyable.

I made this advice because i am sure (ish you are working on darktide version of chaos wastes).

In-mission pacing too, but the chase for ā€œdifficultyā€ has rendered that nonexistent.

Breathing room like this is SO important. Has a huge effect on my gaming group.

It still bums me out that we don’t have airlocks that allow us to optionally chill for a second to take a bio break or whatever.

I miss the times when characters actually had time for their longer dialogues and missions actually had ups and downs, rather than being non-stop high-octane action.

Nowadays they can’t finish a sentence, because you constantly use your ability and disablers don’t stop spawning. It’s still fun, but at times feels… shallow.

That’s ideally what mid-mission Boss fights, Auspex hacking events, and battery events should be - a break from the 24/7 conga line of Specialists, but due to the current nature of Elites and Specs not being a strong challenge against power crept players in smaller groups of Elites/Specs, there’s much more pressure to ramp up the spawn rate of these enemies to the point of instability - even during these events.

But, with the addition of Plasma Gunners and buffed Crushers, it appears as though Fatshark is moving towards making Elites more challenging opponents on an individual level, so there’s hope for better mission pacing in the future - missions with those high adrenaline difficulty spikes, but then ā€œcoolingā€ periods in between those spikes for character dialog, focusing on events, better boss fights (multi phase boss fights with more interesting mechanics that don’t rely on just a void shield).

I wonder how many gamers aren’t aware that excessive gaming can really imbalance your dopamine levels. If gaming stops being fun, and you feel irritation more often than enjoyment… stop gaming, go outside, touch some grass, relax, ̶p̶u̶n̶c̶h̶ ̶a̶ ̶n̶e̶i̶g̶h̶b̶o̶u̶r̶.̶ ̶

Punching a tree and screaming into the void is also very therapeutic! Touching grass will always be top of the morning though

Indeed. I suggested a vote to pause. But no one seemed to react.

I guess they are all servitors and don’t need to pee lol

I thought I replied to that thread but guess I didn’t…

IDK about all the time, but adding a ā€˜pause’ feature to natural break points like elevators, air locks, ect would be nice.

inefficiency is heresy, eating is irrelevant when serving the emperor and my bladder is adamant

if i’d take a break I’d get out of the flow, rather push it for a few hours with some energy drinks and take care of biological necessities afterwards.

but why? except havoc matches take around 20 minutes give or take.

when i’m on my ā€œzockzeitā€ I want to get in as many matches as possible, not drag a match to 40 minutes cause someone forgot to pee before clicking literally ā€œreadyā€

often times I ignore that ā€œpressureā€ and rather squeeze another match in, pun intended :face_with_tongue:

7 people agreed though. (Including myself) What’s more to discuss?

If an idea is appreciated then posting a supportive comment to get the post seen by FS I guess.

I doubt FS would look at a post with zero replies and think it is something desired by the community.

Sometimes you need to run to answer the door or an important phone call etc. In Havoc, taking your eye off the screen for seconds could be a team wipe. It requires an intense extended concentration (sometimes for over a solid hour) and the option for a quick pause could be very helpful.

well, to be honest if in the past I was playing havoc I was neither.

when I decide to invest in this kind if commitment there is no phone or door bell, don’t bother me while I’m playing for dear life :face_with_tongue:

so I don’t attempt havoc if I not positively made sure the next 4 hours are undisturbed

Because it’s a tiny QoL that most people can ignore and a handful of people can benefit from?

I don’t see it being used by most PUGs, but some of us run with pre made groups of IRL friends and we’re all totally cool with taking an unexpected 5 minute break to help bring in groceries.

ok fair enough, but especially when playing with buddy pirx and being on discord, the ā€œpisspauseā€ is announced between matches.

and even if an auric maelstrom today allowed for getting to phone for a ā€œNOT nowā€

but yeah I look at it from the random perspective and give them the opportunity, the smoke their weed in an airlock for half a hour

still remember these annoying mmo breaks ā€œgotta smoke right quickā€

when I sit down to play I usually stay in this position a couple hours :winking_face_with_tongue:

you had this example before, my answer stays the same.

who’s able to get them from the store home is strong enough to manage the stairs too

It could have a maximum pause time per pause.

well if everyone’s on board beforehand, sure why not.

personally if I interrupt a match I get out of my flow for a lack of better explanation.

so whenever I fire up with caffeine I get in as many matches back to back until I tilt, current meds don’t really help either in that regard.
