So next update should see the multiframe officially implemented.
oh yeah. i’ll just skip the rather unreasonable 50xx generation, but my 4090 will enjoy this update.
There is absolutely no reason to buy a RTX 5000 if you have a 4090.
With my 3080 I have skipped gen 4000. Here, as Darktide is my main game, the one I play too much, I really wanted all at max. So I hesitated with the 5090…
But 5090 does not appear safe. And when I asked opinions and returns on reddit official nvidia channel, moderator removed my post 30 min after approving it… so I guess it was not the only one post about melting connectors. So, I was not really enthusiast about the 5090.
I took the 5080… and I can play darktide with everything at max in 4k. That’s really a dream on the 32’ monitor OLED i have also bought (at the price of the difference between the RTX 5090 and the RTX 5080 I bought).
I honestly was anxious that the 5080 would not be good enough… but multiframe generation changes everything.
Without, motion blur and lens flare were too much (I had also not put ragdolls and decays at max but at 50%). With it (I did the manipulations to get it in game), I can use even that and I am at more than 120 fps. That’s all I ask…
as fate would have it i skip my usual “new rig every 2 years” routine as well.
first i’m a bit hesistant to buy the cooking stove that is the 5090, bad start.
second i need to stretch my funds for the time of treatment.
so in an ironic twist, i got “time” but less money
then again 6090 here i come and my 4080 at 2k 27"oled is more than enough to sustain 144fps.
CPU seems to be the bottleneck for recent games, watercooling temp rises needlessly in shader loading for stalker 2, sm2 etc while the main game doesnt flinch.
13700k all components double checked and aside from that spike working at >70° ingame 90% of the time
but hey, got a free canary bird, every time my cooler starts to run i know enemies spawned in stalker2 around the corner
As I said… my self I decided to not go for it. And I had patiently saved the price of such material during 2 years…
What I have read is that the 12V-2x6, remake of the 12VHPWR, is just a little more secure. But the problem is not here, it is in the power management. It seems Nvidia has removed all security and that your graphic card can take too much power from one wire and make it too hot. This is due to the fact the graphic card would not check where it takes power.
I tend to think that Nvidia is not stupid and that such incidents will be enough rare in term of corporation accepted risk.
However… I don’t want to rely on luck.
For info, I succeeded to get a melted connector on my RTX 3080, when I was mining ETH. I changed the connector myself (hopefully it was on card) and had to throw the cable and replace it by something better.
I don’t make a bet with a terrible beast like the 5090…
I have the CPU that the press says that it was not as good as expected…
The Intel arrow lake, an ultra core 265k (so the “i7” in the new chart). CPU is totally under exploited in all games (I mean here that the CPU, in all games, does not need all resources… clearly the CPU handles easily the current games I have). The CPU temp is really low, even in games.
This CPU is a dream for me.
And anyways, I don’t return to AMD / Radeon. With AMD you get unexpected bugs, things that don’t work, strange problems… no thank.
well i built my 7800x3d + 4090 mainly because of darktide. tbh i expected more gains from the current gen… but it needs like +30% energy for +30% gains on a 5090 that is absurdly expensive, if you can get one at all, and the connector doesn’t melt. i rather save my money for the next gen, so if i get a new box, it’s better worth it.
as for effects, i try to have my darktide pretty, but visibility as good as possible, without going into quake3 style graphics, so lens flares and god rays are off because they make it hard to see what is behind, and artificial motion blur when we have oleds with blur reduction now is just heresy, it makes my head hurt.
for the money for both gpu and new psu i’d settle for no less than +80% increase so i get my guaranteed 240fps my oled is capable off.
anything below, why should i remain at 144 capped with newer hardware
i’m a simple reject, i buy a pc to play darktide, every other game is just a “filler” at this point💪🏻
Same…
However, I just wanted to max everything… and 5090 is not enough secure in my opinion. I prefer waiting that they build things more secure.
Lens flare and blur motion are things I may remove. Both… only one… not sure.
Must say that it creates beautiful flames, that’s so impressive. However, yes, it affects the visibility.
I just need more time and see how I like or dislike it…
Yes, literally this… The cost to performance ratio just isn’t worth it in my eyes for the 5090, plus the price is like 4 grand, so hell to the no. I have the same setup as you. My PSU is at 1200W for now, so it’s a bit future-proof for when the 6090 comes out in a few years. Hoping that 1200W should be enough, my guess is that it most likely will be. I only game in 4k which is a treat, but the 6090 will be a beast when it comes out for 4k. I got a 240Hz OLED, DP 2.1, so I’m pretty confident the 6090 will do just fine to push it past those limits. Would be nice to just max everything out in literally everything. The 4090 does pretty good at like 90-95% of games maxed out with some obvious exceptions of course.
I updated to the latest driver but I don’t see the options in Darktide. Probably need to wait until FS pushes out a new version with them added.
The connector is actually a much better fit, but you’re right that isn’t the real cause. It’s the lack of load balancing to save a buck. I won’t touch a 5090 with a 10 foot pole, but I’m happy with my 5080. I have a temperature sensor taped to my power cable, I haven’t seen it go higher than 5C over ambient, but it does live in a wind tunnel.
indeed, the option doesn’t show up, perhaps it will after the patch.
Darktide has not yet the right DLL files to see it in the options. When you put them, you see it.
However, this is not enough to benefit from frame generation as you have to enforce it actually.
So yes… you need to wait the patch if you don’t want to enforce it before this patch.
Tbh, with it, this is amazing. Everything is so smooth and great. 150-180 FPS all the time is so good… BUT… this has lead me to encounter the first computer reboots (it crashes very often) since I have built it.
i’m not in a hurry to enforce anything, the few days to the patch won’t change much.
