Our new frame generation AI model is 40% faster, uses 30% less VRAM, and only needs to run once per rendered frame to generate multiple frames. For example, in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide , this model provided a 10% faster frame rate, while using 400MB less memory at 4K, max settings, using DLSS Frame Generation.
Note: when installing nvidia driver, choose not to install Nvidia app with it. Then download Nvidia app separately. There is a bug where in Nvidia app and it will say " “Unable to retrieve settings. Try again later”. It was happening to me.
Uh what? It’s modifying the DLL!?
I wouldn’t ever do this. call me paranoid.
Using Profile inspector is the way to go as you just posted.
You might want to edit the first post and add the info and delete the DLL modifying bit with the tweak exe and dll modifying digital signature. You can also use the xml config for the classic (older) nV Profile Inspector, as mentioned here, but it seems to be crashing with latest drivers? The newer NvidiaProfileInspectorRevamped seems just fine and the author already updated and merged the presets in the xml config; good stuff. With the older util you’d have to merge the xml (trivial) for say HDR and DLSS stuff.
But yeah, updating the DLSS DLL and using thew new J Preset is the way to go!
Some are reporting that dropping the DLSS quality setting to PERFORMANCE or BALANCED over QUALITY is as good as the older version higher settings. Black magic karkery.
DLSS has been a drop-in DLL replacement for a while now, hence DLSS Swapper utility; the code-integration hasn’t been a thing since DLSS3?. Intel is drop-in XeSS DLL too, AMD was the odd duckling as usualy. The “dev intervention” in question here is just redistributing the DLL. The nV app will just auto-update the DLSS DLLs a la DLSS Swapper as I understood it.
Under the hood DT used nV Streamline and I suspect it was maybe partly AMD’s fault for dragging on their part of it in the past.
Don’t worry it was a registry change. No DLL modification. But I guess Nvidia Profile Inspector does job better now at driver level as opposed to per game, which makes DLSS tweaks redundant.
This will explain better.
Of course I would rather controlled by Nvidia app. People tend to not know about 2nd part of the preset J to take effect if using DLSS swapper only.
Now I get it I was too wrapped up in comparing when not in motion. DLSS 4 Performance vs DLSS 3 Quality when in motion - There is a difference in less ghosting and maintaining sharper edges when things moving.
Maybe performance impact but nothing noticeable. Depends on GPU I guess as all I see are people throwing random numbers like 5% impact in reddit.
But a person can make their own Ultra Performance, Performance, Balanced, Quality presets - can let you adjust your own resolution scale factor to balance more finely. This was possible in DLSS tweaks for example.
Well good news for AMD GPU owners. FSR4 will be supported for Darktide.
Well damn the UK pricing for RTX 5080…The ones left in stock are £1400. A £3000 RTX 5090 and nearly sold out. These are retailers, not ebay. If ever a point I need to spend £5000 on a future Nvidia card to play at higher resolution then I will stick to 1080p for life and cap to 120fps then end my expectations there.
I understood this as attempting to modify the DLL’s digital signature, not sure what you’re trying to say here, that you get an UAC prompt for elevated permissions needed for registry modifications? It’s the phrasing that confused me.
It allows nvidia DLLs in game folder to be edited by DLSS tweaks otherwise if it fails verification it will just pull from windows system32 as backup
You could call it a security risk. i.e. someone could create an nvidia DLL with same name to overwrite then let it execute. DLSS tweaks needs to edit DLLs and bypass nvidia verification.
But I haven’t seen or heard of any security breach from this.
P.S. I had zero issues and didn’t require a DDU, so follow OP’s advice and boost your image quality and performance for free.
P.P.S. Despite DT being a showcase game for 30xx series launch and DLSS4 recently, it’s still listed as custom_engine_generic lol. It gets no respect, no respect at all.
Will we get DLSS Override - Frame Generation? I’m running a 4070 Super, or is this a 50-series feature?
Oh, I can now enable RTX shadows (not sure of the correct name) and Ray Tracing on Medium. I normally lock my frames to 120 @ 1440p, and even with both of those turned on, I’m still getting 120 FPS.
14700K, 4070 Super.
Is it possible to do some sort of benchmark for Darktide to test the effects of this compared to previous versions, or other settings? I miss a more reliable way of gauging game performance than just walking around the mourningstar watching already fluctuating FPS numbers and trying to remember the ranges I used to see.
