Dlss 4 (310.1.0.0)

DLSS 4 applies to any RTX GPU.

(But Frame generation part capability is different between series i.e. 2x for RTX 4000 and 4x for RTX 5000)

May do something or may not do anything visible. I played 5-6 games to make sure stable and not crash or cause any errors - OK so far.

Didn’t think it would do anything but came across a comment so thought why not. Don’t see anything much myself but then I have bad eyesight anyway.

Maybe someone wants to try and see if the case visual difference or not.

Even though DLSS 4 is not supported for Darktide you can still force it in Nvidia app.

I had to nuke my drivers and nvidia app using DDU, then install latest again.

Then it shows up.

DLSS Override - Models Preset - I just chose “Use different settings for each DLSS technology” then selected “Latest” for Super Resolution.

Using ShowDLSS indicator to be sure I can see it is using DLSS 4 and preset K. K being the newer transformer model.

I see it is 310.2.1 so slightly newer minor version.

I wait january 30th to look at dlss 4

What I have seen is that Darktide is not on the list of games ready “day one” for dlss 4 but, at same time, Nvidia quoted it as example.

From: NVIDIA DLSS 4 Introduces Multi Frame Generation & Enhancements For All DLSS Technologies | GeForce News | NVIDIA

Our new frame generation AI model is 40% faster, uses 30% less VRAM, and only needs to run once per rendered frame to generate multiple frames. For example, in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide , this model provided a 10% faster frame rate, while using 400MB less memory at 4K, max settings, using DLSS Frame Generation.

is this for using dlss 4 right now, before it’s (hopefully) implemented officially?

I guess it will… as you can read from Nvidia.
I just wonder why the game is not on the list of the games ready “day one”.

Probably because fatshark can’t keep deadlines.

Game devs decide whether or not to update DLSS. Darktide is currently using 3.5.10.0

I made a note of it just in case I have to roll back if any error/crash occurs

The DLSS 4 (310.1.0.0) came about recently. Most likely taken from Cyberpunk 2077 DLSS 4 update.

DLSS 4 DLL’s from Cyberpunk Patch 2.21 : r/nvidia

Then people putting into various other games with DLSS like Alan Wake 2, Horizon Forbidden West etc to try out.

You probably won’t need to manually to this in future.

The Nvidia App will release an update in future that will let you do this without needing above tools.

I’m glad DLSS is moving away from dev implementation. It’s not only Fatshark that has struggled to implement it properly

I tried this on a 3 series card and it would work, but would crash. I ended up on the one before the latest 3.10 and it works great

Updated my 1st post.

Shame not supported from day 1 for Darktide. New Nvidia drivers and Nvidia app update today.

IF was supported:

  • Models Preset - You would been able to select preset J
  • Frame Generation and Super Resolution - Select 310.1

Note: when installing nvidia driver, choose not to install Nvidia app with it. Then download Nvidia app separately. There is a bug where in Nvidia app and it will say " “Unable to retrieve settings. Try again later”. It was happening to me.

Uh what? It’s modifying the DLL!?
I wouldn’t ever do this. call me paranoid.

Using Profile inspector is the way to go as you just posted.
You might want to edit the first post and add the info and delete the DLL modifying bit with the tweak exe and dll modifying digital signature.
You can also use the xml config for the classic (older) nV Profile Inspector, as mentioned here, but it seems to be crashing with latest drivers? The newer NvidiaProfileInspectorRevamped seems just fine and the author already updated and merged the presets in the xml config; good stuff. With the older util you’d have to merge the xml (trivial) for say HDR and DLSS stuff.

NVIDIA DLSS DLL 3.8.10 Download | TechPowerUp is normally where people get the DLLs manually, but latest is not there atm. DLSS Swapper can get the latest on its own.

But yeah, updating the DLSS DLL and using thew new J Preset is the way to go!
Some are reporting that dropping the DLSS quality setting to PERFORMANCE or BALANCED over QUALITY is as good as the older version higher settings. Black magic karkery.

DLSS has been a drop-in DLL replacement for a while now, hence DLSS Swapper utility; the code-integration hasn’t been a thing since DLSS3?. Intel is drop-in XeSS DLL too, AMD was the odd duckling as usualy. The “dev intervention” in question here is just redistributing the DLL. The nV app will just auto-update the DLSS DLLs a la DLSS Swapper as I understood it.

Under the hood DT used nV Streamline and I suspect it was maybe partly AMD’s fault for dragging on their part of it in the past.

In the latest nVidia app:

 Don’t worry it was a registry change. No DLL modification. But I guess Nvidia Profile Inspector does job better now at driver level as opposed to per game, which makes DLSS tweaks redundant.

This will explain better.

Of course I would rather controlled by Nvidia app. People tend to not know about 2nd part of the preset J to take effect if using DLSS swapper only.

Now I get it I was too wrapped up in comparing when not in motion. DLSS 4 Performance vs DLSS 3 Quality when in motion - There is a difference in less ghosting and maintaining sharper edges when things moving.

Maybe performance impact but nothing noticeable. Depends on GPU I guess as all I see are people throwing random numbers like 5% impact in reddit.

But a person can make their own Ultra Performance, Performance, Balanced, Quality presets - can let you adjust your own resolution scale factor to balance more finely. This was possible in DLSS tweaks for example.

Well good news for AMD GPU owners. FSR4 will be supported for Darktide.

Well damn the UK pricing for RTX 5080…The ones left in stock are £1400. A £3000 RTX 5090 and nearly sold out. These are retailers, not ebay. If ever a point I need to spend £5000 on a future Nvidia card to play at higher resolution then I will stick to 1080p for life and cap to 120fps then end my expectations there.

I understood this as attempting to modify the DLL’s digital signature, not sure what you’re trying to say here, that you get an UAC prompt for elevated permissions needed for registry modifications? It’s the phrasing that confused me.

It allows nvidia DLLs in game folder to be edited by DLSS tweaks otherwise if it fails verification it will just pull from windows system32 as backup

You could call it a security risk. i.e. someone could create an nvidia DLL with same name to overwrite then let it execute. DLSS tweaks needs to edit DLLs and bypass nvidia verification.

But I haven’t seen or heard of any security breach from this.

I would say it is safe

I spoke too soon. Apologies. I will revise 1st post.

Talk about the newer K preset here Reddit - Dive into anything

and some options global enforcements in comments Reddit - Dive into anything

So after setting D4 and DT to

on nVidia App (update it!)

It’s showing Preset K and DLSS v 310.2.1

And this is after D4 re-patched itself to an older DLSS after a manual update.

P.S. I had zero issues and didn’t require a DDU, so follow OP’s advice and boost your image quality and performance for free.

P.P.S. Despite DT being a showcase game for 30xx series launch and DLSS4 recently, it’s still listed as custom_engine_generic lol. It gets no respect, no respect at all.

Will we get DLSS Override - Frame Generation? I’m running a 4070 Super, or is this a 50-series feature?
Oh, I can now enable RTX shadows (not sure of the correct name) and Ray Tracing on Medium. I normally lock my frames to 120 @ 1440p, and even with both of those turned on, I’m still getting 120 FPS.
14700K, 4070 Super.

Yup

You will get the “enhanced” Frame Generation model as part of DLSS 4. Whether it will work better with RTX 5000 series unsure.

Is it possible to do some sort of benchmark for Darktide to test the effects of this compared to previous versions, or other settings? I miss a more reliable way of gauging game performance than just walking around the mourningstar watching already fluctuating FPS numbers and trying to remember the ranges I used to see.

In game benchmark. It would have to be a pre-rendered scenario of fixed horde count, movement, number of them etc to be consistent run to run.
