Directional sound not working correctly

Issue Summary:
Sound muffles when source is behind of the character

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Select any source of sound. (Such as Okri’s challenges)
  2. Turn 180 degree.
  3. You hear nothing from it.

Reproduction Rate (Choose One): Constant (100%)

Additional Information:
This happens regardless of audio type. I have checked for stereo and 5.1 surround.
This is very, very annoying. Whole team died today because ratling gunner ambushed from behind without making any noise. There have been many reports about this issue since 1.2 patch. Can’t understand why it is not fixed yet.

I don’t know if it is the same issue, but Lohner’s narrations also sound muffled during the loading title roll, and you can hear it getting crisper and more present when the actual map loads and the camera sweep starts. Probably Lohner’s voice gets “positioned” funny somehow because the muffling effect is similar to the one you describe.

having this exact same problem. When my character has dialogue lines it doesn’t play, as if I’m standing behind myself. Note this also doesn’t play horde noises when facing away, nor the dodge/block sound prompt which is making the game borderline unplayable

was having this problem, screwing around I resolved it:
reinstalled audio drivers, then within the speaker properties, there was a single checkbox for Dolby 7.1 which was unchecked. Checking it fixed it.
That said, I also had found it was affected other surround sound games. I tested with drills in Payday 2. If you’re having the issue in other games, you could try this, since my situation was exactly as you described. But if it’s only in Vermintide, obviously it would be something else

Whilst the noise from Okri’s book does fade out when behind you, trying to reproduce this for other sound sources has been unsuccessful. If you could share more about your sound configurations (headset/speakers/stereo or 5.1/7.1/dolby atmos/surround emulation etc) it’d be very handy.

I can attest to this being true. Dialog, any dialog that is coming from behind sounds like someone is talking thorugh a tin can from and unknown location

I only get that issue if i have Windows sound spatialization enabled (Dolby Atmos for headphones / Windows Sonic)
