Darktide Modding Policy

They now allow modding (the policy side of “we don’t support mods”), but FS will not do any work towards solving the technical challenges. It is up to the community to handle creation, distribution and managing of mods.

We will not get an official Workshop page, nor something akin to VT2’s SDK.

I guess this needs to be said again:
You can not mod items or anything because that all depends on the server.
The server decides how others see you and what damage you deal.
You can’t just throw a modded item in there.
When your game decides how to show another player it does so with info from the server.
You can not mod items or cosmetics or talents or damage or whatever.
That is all decided by the dedicated server.

It might be possible later that modded clients can communicate with each other as a way to implement additional gameplay features maybe.
It might be.
But even then it would probably be just visual stuff, since we can’t change the gameplay on the server.

You really don’t have to worry about cheats all that much.

EDIT:
Also when crafting weapons the server determines the outcome.
Same with the items in the shop and stuff.

Don’t worry, you, Fatshark, have devalued player time so much already that no kind of competition can compare.

If someone makes a ui mod for 32:9 screens, I’d be super happy

Auto-kick elves? You’re making it sound like a bad thing.

I would actually start playing the game again if they had a modded realm that allowed me to ignore the RNG crafting.

This is also why I never wanted dedicated servers.

Thanks so much, saw j_sat’s video and I’m super excited

“set it up to auto kick Elves or players under a certain level”
Sounds like a good time.

So now we’re in position that modding the game might cause a ban as there’s no approval system or workshop… where one might think visuals dont affect gameplay others might disagree but also not knowing where to get mods from (on 3rd party website) may make people sceptical of what can be achieved… Can we have stance on crosshairs and removal of visual effects, UI tweaks… One would assume any mod that was approved in v2 a like for like mod would also be approved…

Really we gonna have the same weeks of busted mods because FS… When your content creators are pushing for change and their communities are being ignored despite the love for your game you happy for their displeasure that you don’t/wont implement these tweaks as you have better things to focus on…

There is actually already a site up that polls the shops for all your Characters already. I tied it through my steam account and can see what the shop has to offer every hour even when not logged into the game,

Yup, I know about the browser extension, thanks though.

I wrote my own that doesn’t run in a browser. Trying to figure out if we’re allowed to automate buying or not. Players can’t spend 24 hours a day, so not sure if that runs afoul of “Using mods that devalue other players’ investments (time or monetary) in the game”.

The shop API also returns offers that don’t appear to be listed in the in-game store, trying to find out if we’re allowed to buy them or not with the API. That seems much sketchier… just trying to get clarification on the rules so I don’t run afoul of anything.

Well FS clearly doesn’t actually ‘support’ modding, and have created zero tools for it. The modding community (many or even all from VT2) have made it possible and have obviously been in contact with FS, which is why we’ve gotten a modding policy out of the blue, but no actual announcement of mods or mod support, because the game doesn’t officially have mod support.

Chances are a lot of things will be grey area. I’d be surprised it they clamped down on buying through API, since mods auto-buying inside the game will be legal. Who knows, though. They could at any time change the API or make it not work though, since they don’t officially support the API or tools like the shop checker that relies on it. The API ‘happens to be there’ but it’s not like they’ve said they are comitted to providing an API for community use.

Lol the only reason they made this turn is in order to have modders fix their mistakes like they did in VT2.

After a year or two they will then randomly block certain mods when they finally have copied what modders did in a matter of weeks without any form of support.

You know the answer… this would lead to a ban…

  • Using mods that devalue other players’ investments (time or monetary) in the game
    • Examples: Bypassing progression, penances or contracts, unlocking of premium cosmetics and currencies in the game service.

This mod can lead to a ban… even if I understand the why… I have given up penances.
The scoreboard, I love it. I think it has to be in the game. Fatshark should listen community on this. Seriously, we get a window to explain us how much experience we have got… at level 30 it is trully relevant! And we can’t know what was our contribution in the mission?

People that are insulting others, I block them. So if there is toxicity, it won’t be cause of the stat board, but cause of people. And people, I can block them if they are toxic (but please remove the limit… i have only 4 in block list… but i don’t like there is a limit).
I did it with someone yesterday that was insulting everybody. I did it also some time ago about one guy that wanted to kick someone and spammed the vote, making me nearly killed 2 times (heresy - Hab Dreyko mission). The reason was that he was thinking someone was not enough skilled. I don’t want to play with such persons… I block. I prefer that the mission fails, but if the guy work in the team and don’t do stupid things, no reason to kick him. We all have suffered of lack of skills at one point.

So, there is no toxicity reason that can be opposed. We have a block list to deal with this. Scoreboard should be implemented. I really wait for this mod, if FS doesn’t want to give it to us.

If you have 50 blocked players you are the problem. Better to take a look at yourself at that point.
