Went from the 5800X and it is just so much smoother.
Getting 200+ FPS during hordes with a 4080S at 1440p with DLSS, and it just feels way better in every way.
If you’re on the fence with this one, go for it!

I went from a 5800X3D to a 7800X3D this summer and it was noticeable for sure
I’m tempted to get one myself
I hope RDNA4 comes out good, I am ready to get rid of nvidia!
thanks for posting!
is there any benchmark of darktide one can use for a more precise comparison?
There’s no benchmark mode in DT.
i wonder if a benchmark mode could be done with a mod. unfortunately, review sites don’t use darktide. they tend to use sm2 though, in which the 9800x3d has a good lead over the 7800x3d.
They had one in VT2, but it never showed hordes, so it’d lead you to believe that GPU was way more important than CPU. In the tide games both matter.
But yeah, a mod that spawns in a huge horde that follows you for a set time should give a pretty good indication of CPU performance!
Try creature spawner. Make yourself invincible and spawn a trial, should work as a scuffed benchmark.
New expensive hardware makes the game run smoother? That’s crazy talk.
For real, though. The game should run fine without getting a 9800X3D. Honestly. The fact it doesn’t is the real stinger.
Benchmark from AliExpress!
A lot of reviewers are saying CPU doesn’t matter at 1440p though, but in the tide games it absolutely does.
not only does it overall, but my next upgrade will be purely to crank ragdolls to the max.
and maybe there’ll be a mod to let corpses stay indefinately.
hate it when my limb-carpet disappears before my eyes
That’s a weird fetish, but I don’t kink shame.
hey, cant an ogryn enjoy the fruits of his labor ?
Yeah corpse persistence and interaction is great and definitely worth sacrificing performance for. Sometimes I’ll see a body propped up when I round a corner and behead it out of reflex, and it just falls over after a little off the top. Or hacking that trapper into cubes. It is a hilarious effect…
Nice to know but I would have to be insane to upgrade my 7700X just for single unoptimized mess of a game. If you have a game where in Settings, going from “unlimited” frames to “144” frames lowers your max FPS already by like 20 for unknown reasons… it’s not worth to upgrade anything for it. But hey, PS5 got its version… so huray I guess.
They don’t make nice boxes for Ryzen 9000. Made you feel the value factor even though it made no difference to performance.
My 7800 box if leaned on it’s side where vertical cardboard sides is strongest makes a great laptop stand. Strong and sturdy.
Pulled the trigger after seeing this thread.
Upgrading from a 9900K. Haven’t had an AMD in years but the Intel line seems … bad.
You weren’t lying.
This thing absolutely crushes Darktide. Incredible upgrade. Thank you.
