Darktide does not need new classes

Extremely unpopular opinion am sure, the new class looks like fun but this game really didn’t need more playable classes beyond the 4 base classes imo. Just wish the extra resources were spent on more maps, weapons and fixing the actual game issues lmaoo.

Don’t get me wrong arbitrator is also well designed but it doesn’t touch any new grounds either (and his not a reject or grunt by any means), it literally tries to fill the roles of all the base classes without any inherent weakness and the dog is just a bot that never dies not much of a synergy with it besides the blitz ability. Arbitrator weapons could’ve been given to vet and his armor sold in the FOMO store and it wouldn’t be that different but yeah whatever the voice work is worth a new class i guess.

(I guess the statement i made in the beginning doesn’t really hold true since i kinda wanted something unique like a mechanicus class that touches up new grounds rather doin variations of what the rejects are already doing)

Darktide needs new maps more than it needs classes, but classes make money and the community would lynch FS if they started charging for maps, so we get 2 new classes in a year and zero maps.

Feels like they altered the deal and we should pray it’s not altered further.

Playing the same exact missions for more than 2 years now

I too believe that no new classes are needed. It’s cool but not needed.
FS could add new talent tree branches to the classes we already have, and add new voicelines depending on the core talents you choose.

We are getting a new map with the DLC. I am expecting a BIG release of maps in 2026. Vermintide 2 has gotten like 5 new maps since our last new Darktide one. The map designers are not the ones creating classes/weapons. They have to be cooking SOMETHING up.

Honestly as much as i want a tech class, i don’t think there is much to bring to the table beyond what base classes offer (with out altering the gameplay much) and yeah more tree branches would’ve expanded upon existing playstyles without spending resources on making a new class.

Maybe fatshark should’ve just stuck to careers like in VT2 instead of talent trees but again more thoughts.

I much prefer new enemies (and/or enemy behaviors), new missions, new maps, new ways of interacting with the world more than new classes. the point being new classes change the sandbox somewhat based on our interactions with them and of course if we play with them, but all of the other things above will change the gameplay experience 100% of the time for everyone, which means more interesting moments and gameplay.

I accept new classes are a good way for them to continue funding development though

I don’t mind new classes, but I agree game is In dire need of new maps and enemies.

Enemies and maps create new combat scenarios and situations

Classes only provide tools how you can react to them

Honestly completely agree, and it seems FatShark agrees as well, but as Ragnarok said, ‘they can’t sell new maps/made the ‘mistake’ of adding those with free updates, so guess it’s now time to milk the niche player base!’

Why I say Fatshark agrees is because they aren’t making new classes, they are just making updated broken versions of the old ones. Already had discussions floating around about how Arbite basically just replaces Veteran, if Veteran didn’t have shout they’d be completely unusable (and even with it, barely functional). Now this new class is poised to replace Zealot, and it’s laughable how obvious it is:

  • Ranged damage while close to enemies? what if ranged damage while close to enemies and better after a reload!
  • Remember how zealots used to have Swift Certainty? and we removed it? Yeah, hive Ganger has it now and made it better! (increased sprint dodge angle and you’re always counted as sprint dodging even without stamina)
  • clunky stun grenade that nobody uses? What about flash bang instead! Ohh and you can get them back by killing enemies too, so it’s a better knife also
  • Also fully ranged centric momentum, not a strict increase in power there, but it’s there
  • Zealot the dodge class with bonuses for dodging? Na, what if my dodge was better both in duration AND length!
  • Disdain? more like they better not give me the duelling sword or I just win!
  • Raw melee damage aura, you know that thing that probably should have been on Zealot? Nope, they get it! Zealot you keep your stamina reduction aura nod nod
  • Fury of the Faithful and thy wrath be swift? what if Berserk skill instead?
  • Martyr? what if that but just for attacking and you don’t need to be low HP, you don’t get the DR either but eehh just kill everything!
  • Ohh, and almost forgot, Knife? No, mounted rocket launcher!
  • Lets dip into the Psykers playbook now and take the crit aura, because
  • And beyond that, the ‘stim side’ seems the most ‘inventive’, but I don’t doubt you can make the canister do damage, and get some gnarly effects from the ‘Stimm Supply’, making one think of inferno grenade and chorus replacements if you squint.

One might wonder why the Zealot ‘didn’t get THAT much’ from the class rework, mainly gaining some more effective talents while surrounded and just access to all their best talents without much variety being given. Well, now you know! it was saved and given to these guys, just like how the Arbite took the Veterans ability to ever have survivability . Now I’m just waiting for ‘Psyker 2’ or a small mechanized Ogryn that somehow eclipses their capabilities, more than waiting for any ‘new interesting playstyles’ to actually be brought to the game.

I’d rather new environments and a monstrosity or two, getting another ‘clearly overstated class to make money and overshadow an existing one’, I can live without.

It’s unfortunate that people are so shortsighted. I know you’re right, but is the current alternative better? There’s been no new map for a full year now.

Wish people got the collective sticks out of their butts when it comes to monetization in games and stopped falling for these horrid business models. Make content, charge for content, buy content, enjoy content. It’s a shame this isn’t the optimal way to squeeze dry gamers anymore

You’d think each introduction of a new class would present the opportunity to add a new map that ties in thematically with the new class in some way, but alas.

The wild thing is that the cosmetics and DLC classes are supposed to finance new maps. Yet… there are no new maps. And don’t @ me with that operator mission.

until now, all new weapons for existing classes have been added for free.
From a revenue standpoint, selling a new class together with its exclusive weapons as a DLC is more profitable than continuing to release free weapons.
Because of that, Fatshark may have shifted its strategy in that direction.

pretty much opposite for me, more class’s best more weapons second best, more maps makes very little difference to me theres enough already.

New maps don’t provide them with a new profit stream, at least directly, indirectly by people being more likely to buy cosmetics. A new class does.

Agreed. I just want a new biome and loads more maps.

Maps maps maps maps maps! We need maps! I’m sick to death of playing the same maps over and over and over again with the same 3 modifiers whilst all the cool modifiers get thrown into the oubliette to be forgotten about.

MAPS! FATSHARK! MAPSSSS!!!

They don’t propose you new classes, but more a new experience.

True archetypes are zealot, veteran, ogryn and psyker. They have cosmetics proposed and are more polished.

Arbites and scums are just a new experience (fun).
