Why is the new class paid DLC?

Vermintide 2 is a $30 game and had 5 characters/“classes” with 3 sub-classes each before new classes started being released as paid DLC. Meanwhile, Darktide is $40, has one fewer class, yet we still have to pay for new classes? I refunded the game right around launch (only still playing because it was gifted to me later) and haven’t given FS a single cent since then, largely because of greedy decisions like this.

Because each of those subclasses had about the same or less amount of content as a single branch of the current talent trees.

VT cosmetics were paid, maps were paid, weapons were paid, modes were paid, classes were paid.

DT class is paid, crappy FOMO cosmetics are paid.

Not a one to one comparison.

People are saltier about paid content on top of exploitative paid content than they are when everything is paid but non-exploitative.

Because the playerbase and game is dying. Why else would they do this lmao? The shop isnt bringing as much money as more players are leaving by the day, not to mention the cosmetics suck lmao. Think of it, each and every update since Path to Redemption has had less and less stuff added to it. They’re running out of money to do basically anything for the game

My theory is that they’re hoping this update gives Darktide a little boost in revenue so they can allocate those funds to whatever it is the new game theyre working on right now is then put DT on life support.

You’re_bad_with_takes, FS have always introduced new classes as Paid DLC. The Playerbase is fine. Most Pugs I join have half the lobby wearing paid for cosmetics.

Your theory is correct, a business generating revenue is good.

Because continuous development of a video game requires developers be paid. Creating a new class requires lots of time and resources. But I’m sure there’s a leprechaun somewhere throwing Fatshark sacks of gold so yeah it should be free, continuous development shpuld be free.

Actually, there is a leprechaun. It’s the whales who buy every cosmetic that’s absurdly overpriced every two weeks like clockwork.

That’s why people are mad. VT paying for everything is fine. Stupid FOMO shops that then demand anything else be paid for on top of that is not.

Yall seem to forget the ENTIRE reasoning behind the shop and paid cosmetics was so that we could get updates for free. You make a statement like that because you believe youll have an active and steady playerbase regularly buying cosmetics to fund whatever it is the studio is doing. The fact that Nightmares and Visions had the lowest playercount jump for an update SHOWS that the playerbase isnt doing good. Dont believe me? Heres a link to steamcharts

Compare the jump in players from N&V to Unlocked and Loaded, Protocols, or even PtR and youll. The game is not in a healthy spot, even considering the most recent update. The balance is screwed, spawns are broken, we get useless stuff added every update (No we didnt need an entirely new game mode for new background lore), the story is progressing at a snails pace and the snail just downed an entire perscription bottle of muscle downers, audio is still scuffed, performance on AMD is in the trash, and both console and PC STILL get crashes regularly. All this on top of adding a paid class just leaves a bitter taste.

Yes, yes I remember the statement made before launch about how theyre unsure whether classes will be paid of not, Im not stupid. But with all the drama going on during that time and false promises made (Quarterly classes, weapon customization etc) Im chosing to ignore it simply out of principle

Fair point, FOMO shops suck.

okay i’m literally “that guy” now but we are talking about optional 12€ here.

i spent more at the local hardware store to find fitting tubes/coated wires to add on my mcfarlane figures, giving them the final touch connecting the flamer tank/gunner lasgun etc.

on my way there i had to stop at the gas station…

you get my meaning.

is it “worse” than the 90s, when dlc for quake etc were quite “meaty” compared to the price they charged?

no arguing here.

half life blue shift, opposing force, wages of sin, final doom…could fill books here.

then again main games been a lot less content in terms of playtime,so…

honestly, if 20€ here and there keep the lights on for 1200hours and counting, i’d rather put them here than for example the fugging GEZ that german raubritter take every 3 months from you if you watch their “rentnerscheiss” or not :man_shrugging:

honestly they can’t even give us the free stuff they promise is ‘coming soon’ (veteran weapon from 2024) but apparently throwing money at them will restart the development cycle. I think I got a bridge in HL-17-33 to sell too.

The new class comes with 6 voices actors which is quite a lot considering that each class in Vermintide 2 had just a single voice.

I think 12 EUR for optional content isn’t that much in this context.

lol, now there’s one more class to spend on skins for, and one premium set costs as much as the whole paid dlc.

But how are they gonna show 5 characters worth of skins in the store without causing mass aneurysms in their players? /s

I wouldn’t pay a single cent for garbage skins that are just color swaps or copied textures, but I’d gladly pay even $20 for meaningful content like this.

they won’t. even though Hedge is gone for ages now I really think the forum should be awash with confusion and terror at 5 classes to buy clothes for. after all we are too stupid to comprehend anything over 3 pages for 4 classes, this is just anarchy what they’re doing…

Voice actors aren’t free.

It’s 12 Eurodollars for hundreds of hours of gaming. Breh come on now…

Every other Update was FREE.
If you only bought the game you only paid about 40 bucks
for potentialy thousands of hours of fun.

Buying cosmetics is a choice you make…

12 bucks for a new class is absolutely okay.
